FOUNDER’S DAY
Founder’s Day is always a special day of the year, but it was even more special this year, as we were celebrating our 150th Anniversary!
Held in the University of Louisville
Alumni Club, and organized by our Vice President of Fraternity Development, Kelsey Thomas, this Founder’s Day
was one for the books. I loved having the opportunity to talk to former
Kentucky Alphas, as well as alumni who came from other chapters. It’s just one more way to see our value of Lifelong Commitment in action.

CONVENTION
This year we sent three of our sisters to the National Convention in St. Louis, Missouri. Kassie Fogarty, our current president, Kylie Poremba, our New Member Coordinator, and Lee Cooper. At convention, our chapter received
praise for our new academic program, Arrow Guides. In this program, we assign each new member an active member with a similar major. As an arrow guide, it is your job to check in with your Arrow and give them advice on study habits etc. We developed the program as a way to help new members adapt to college life. To the right you can see our members
taking a photo with the Grand President (middle left), as well as the former Grand President (top middle). Our girls had a blast and loved the
opportunity to meet members of our organization from all over the country.
46
“Convention was a blast. It was so amazing getting to meet Pi Phi sisters, both collegian and alumna, from all across the country. We gained so many fantastic ideas to improve our chapter from various other chapters. The best part was the book drive they held where thousands of books were donated, and of course, the amazing food.” —Lee Cooper

»» Major: B.S. Political Science and A.A. Paralegal Studies »» Favorite Memory: “I decided to step out of my comfort zone and do Step Show. As a freshman I didn’t know anyone in Pi Phi, but by the end of that experience I knew I had found my home and one of my best friends. That’s also when I knew I was meant to try and push myself and grow as a person. I’ve always hated being
in front of people, even to this day giving presentations makes me incredibly nervous, but that semester I allowed myself to embrace one of our values, Personal and Intellectual Growth. By doing Step Show I stepped out of my comfort zone, I met one of my closest friends and sisters, I made straight A’s and played on Pi Phi’s flag football team. Without Step Show I probably wouldn’t be where I am today and I owe all of this to Pi Phi.”

Get internships in your field of interest so you can figure out if you like it and also make connections that can help you get a good job. Take 8 am classes because real-world jobs start in the morning, and learn to get through the day without a nap because you can’t do that at work. Save money; you’re going to need a lot

»» Favorite Memory: “When I was disaffiliated from my chapter as a Gamma Chi, I remember banging on our door of the porch to let the chapter know the girls outside were lined up and ready. After months of missing the songs, laughter, and tears inside, standing on the porch of your home is one of the hardest and sweetest moments of being a Gamma Chi. When the door opened, I was shocked to see my big and two littles standing to greet the potential new members. We couldn’t say anything or

»» Major: Communication with a Minor in Sport Administration »» Advice: “My advice would be to get involved as much as you can in Pi Phi. Whether it is on EC, LNC, or a chair position, get involved! You get out of Pi Phi what you put into Pi Phi and the more you come around the better Pi Phi you become, the more friends you make, and the more incredible memories and life long friends you acquire. Also, my favorite memory was attending convention and meeting hundreds of new Pi Phi sisters. It was an honor being chosen to attend in Chicago over the summer. I learned more about the organization and gained tons of knowledge on how to become a better leader in my Exec role as VPM.”
