March 2, 2012 RE: Kyle Brill Recommendation
To Whom It May Concern: Please accept this letter as a professional recommendation for Kyle Brill on behalf of Peter Gluck & Partners. Kyle came to work at our office in the Fall of 2011 and over the course of four months he became a productive and appreciated member of our team. Kyle contributed to many aspects of our practice including model making, rendering, website maintenance, and various administrative tasks and excelled while doing so. We use models in an intensive way to investigate design concepts. Over the course of the term, Kyle learned to work quickly and accurately, completing many models at various scales. He exhibited skill with rendering and graphic work working primarily in Photoshop. Kyle also helped to strategically reorganize our materials and monograph library. I highly recommend Kyle as a solid addition to any office. Best Regards,
Charlie Kaplan, Principal Peter Gluck and Partners

PROTEUS MOVES
FALL 2012
DESIGN WORK
Proteus Moves seeks to imagine durational spaces, and architectures of time and motion. The underlying goal of the studio is to reconnect space to event, something that film encapsulates so well. My work in this studio has focused on capturing the affective quality of the supercell, its churning, twisting, rising and ominous reaching. I have attempted to imagine an architecture that captures this, in its exterior form but also in its interiority. This is a work in progress.

MOSS PARK
WINTER 2012
DESIGN WORK
Designed for the developing community of Moss Park in Toronto’s east end, this project searches for a way to strengthen and enhance this area of the city while, at the same time, it acts as a study in city building and positive development of the urban fabric.

Moss Park explores the potentials of a building that acts as a ‘good neighbor’, one that reaches out to create new urban “platforms” or “plateaus” by proposing a style of building that bridges the gaps between the built forms of the city; moving public life upward instead of outward. Resideces, retail and office space grow upward around a school for the arts, and a public library. The two towers are connected by a large communal gym and community centera and at the heart of the project lies an urban garden and playground.

ANIMAL DISTRICT // PHASE 1
SPRING 2011
DESIGN WORK
This project proposes the creation of an “Animal District, situated in the Toronto Portlands. Such a district divides itself into ecological bands, which act as species attractors and organisers. These bands work with the existing infrastructure in the region and attempts to create an architecture that not only supports ecological variance within the city, but becomes the means for it to take shape.

ANIMAL DISTRICT // PHASE 2
SPRING 2011
DESIGN WORK
As the second iteration of the animal district, this project explored the warping and overlapping of the previously rigid strands of program; examining the notion of integrating human and animal program. The project is composed of landscaped bands, thickened (animal occupied) envelopes, industrial/boat storage a research centre, a library, lecture space, cafes and galleries. Animals are encouraged to inhabit the spaces in between, or on top of the human program.

ILION
SPRING 2011
GROUP WORK
The city of Troy is an ancient place, and a modern one. Heinrich Schleimann, the German archaeologist, Homer, the mythical blind poet, and Achilles, the Greek hero, are each passionately trying to find their way into it. Imagining Troy, they begin recreating the city and its people. As Schliemann investigates ruins, and Homer sings his poetry, the legends and stories grow and come to life between them. Gradually, the ghosts of Greek armies and the shadows of Trojan walls become alive and solid. As Homer and Schliemann struggle to enter the re-imagined Troy, their lives and their quests are woven together. But what, and where, really, is the city? I was heavily involved in the writing, creative conception, and lighting design of the show, while also holding a minor acting role.

SPACEBOX
SPRING 2010
DESIGN WORK
The spacebox is a conceptual design that uses a breezeway to supply cross ventilation and ample natural day lighting across an open concept interior. In the spirit of a nomadic lifestyle the spacebox is as adaptable as the user needs it to be: a table can become a piece of the floor and the bed can be retracted into the ceiling freeing up the space below.

JEDDAH
Zeidler Partnership Architects, TO
During my time at Zeidler, I was principally involved in the schematic design phase of an addition to a hospital in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The project seeks to create a seamless and pragamattic connection to the old hospital while supporting the hospitals important role as an educational instituation. I was mainly involved in the creation of several diagrams & presentation packages as well as iterative study models.

MAUI
Peter Gluck and Partners, NYC
Throughout my internship at Peter Gluck and Parnters, I worked on several projects. However, I was most involved in the design development phase of a residence in Maui. I was responsible for the creation of several iterative models, at different scales. In addition, I created drawing sets for each iteration. 22

QUEENSGATE MEWS
Creativemass, London UK
Throughout my internship at Creativemass, I was quite heavily involved in the schematic and design development phases of a mews house in South Kensington. Its shape and compact size caused several issues and as such maximizing all usable space was a top priority. Through the addition of a new mansard roof it became possible to add a new mezzanine level. This gave the space a new sense of lightness along with renewed complexity and dimension. 24
