SPECIAL PLACES FOR PEOPLE AN ARCHITECTURAL BOOKLET
KYLE GILBOY

KYLE GILBOY I aspire to use my knowledge of design to provide safe, sustainable, affordable housing in places where it is scarce. I believe every human being can and should have access to a roof, a bed, plumbing, and electricity. This idea drives my passion to become a stronger designer every single day.

PROJECT 04
WORK
For the summer of 2021, I worked at BSA LifeStructures as a full-time intern. During this time, I had the opportunity to attend O.A.C. meetings, visit construction sites, talk with subcontractors, conduct a punch list, redline worksets in Revu, create and edit Revit files, regenerate CAD files, and study the application of building codes.
Brass Inset Landmarks This is my first project where I had complete control of the design. The insets serve as wayfinding tools to navigate the new cafeteria at Children’s Mercy Hospital in downtown Kansas City. They are designed as abstractions of local landmarks, as an allusion to the way one uses the real landmarks to navigate the city. The project is nearly complete, with four of the eight landmarks polished off.
17
Stacking Diagram A diagram of every floor of Children’s Mercy research Institute was made using section boxes in Revit, then colored in Illustrator. 18
Freelance Illustration During the fall of 2021, I worked on a project with Cairo Design for Morgan State University. The illustration represents Tyler Hall, a new building on the MSU campus.
