wood curtainwall systems
DOVER
WINDOWS & DOORS
A New Approach Once only available in cold commercial aluminum, curtainwall systems are now offered in an ultra high performance and highly flexible wood frame alternative. Dover Window and Door is proud to introduce this German engineered system to the custom residential and commercial market.
Imagine being able to deliver the crisp, clean lines that curtainwall systems offer along with the beauty and warmth of wood. Our unique custom capabilities bring design options to market that simply are not available in many competing product offerings. From initial design consultation to final turnkey installation, we offer a full range of services to ensure the successful completion of even the most amibitious projects.
Unlimited Species options Since we manufacture our own laminations, you have the ability to specify virtually any wood species for the interior structural frame. Other manufacturers offer a limited selection of common species in a predefined lamination pattern. Our production expertise affords you a far greater range of options to best suit the design at hand.
The Environmental Story
Lamboo
®
Dover is proud to offer what is perhaps the greenest of all choices. Dimensionally stable and extremely strong, laminated bamboo is the perfect alternative to wood.
Fast Facts: • Wood has significantly less embodied energy than aluminum and is a renewable resource. • Wood curtainwalls can meet the highest performance standards in the world, including the Passiv Haus standards developed in Germany.
TwinLoc Fasteners
The TwinLoc fastener is the structural heart of the inner frame assembly. Its beauty lies in its simplicity. Frame joints can easily be accomplished in any location and angle with unsurpassed structural integrity, handling glass weights over 900 pounds. Ease of assembly also makes for the fastest possible installation times, further reducing overall finished costs.
Extruded baseplate
this is the only component that fastens directly into the wood frame. It is completely isolated behind the exterior ‘rain screen’ system.
Inner Gasket
Heavy one piece gasket forms the heart of the drainage system. Horizontal channels funnel all condensation into vertical channels which ventilate through the bottom .
Isolator Bar
Additional thermal break is acheived with this insulating bar, allowing for performance ratings that meet Passiv Haus standards.
Pressure Plate
Integrated gasketing and pressure plate firmly hold glazing in place. Reglazing is easily acheived on any individual lite.
Cover Caps
Decorative cover caps are available in a variety of finishes and materials including bronze and custom wood profiles.
Anatomy of a wood curtainwall
Flexible Mullion Sizes Structural wood mullions are available in multiple widths ranging from 2” to 4” and mullion depths can be varied to meet the required wind loads as needed.

Multiple Venting Lite Options
Any appropriately sized opening in the curtainwall grid can be fitted with either an inswing or outswing venting lite. European manufacturers and importers typically only offer an inswing casement option in a single profile. dover takes this one step further by offering both inswing and outswing options in multiple different profiles.
Inswing sash - multiple cladding profiles - motorization - Hidden hinge overlay sash or flush sash and frame - tilt/turn or hopper setups - sash weights up to 250#
Outswing sash - multiple cladding profiles - motorization - Rotocrank, pushbar, or multipoint pushout operators - casement or awning setups - sash weights up to 140#
Seamless Integration of Doors One of the main reasons for using curtainwall is its ability to offer slender sitelines and consistent mullion widths. Our door details uphold this design intent by utilizing the curtainwall frame directly instead of relying on a separate frame at each door opening. This results in a reduction of the siteline at each door by as much as 7.
Design Flexibility
• Faceted walls with up to a 20˚ angle at each mullion • Sloped glazing for pitched roofs and full conservatories. • multiple accessory profiles for sill extensions, rain gutters, etc. • compatability with glazing options ranging from plate glass to triple insul glass over 2” thick 10° max
‘Frameless’ sliding doors Reducing the overall bulk of sliding doors within the curtainwall is a particularly difficult design challenge. Rather than simply inserting a fully framed sliding door in between the wall mullions, we decided to utilize the mullion itself and create a ‘frameless’ solution to the problem.
