Worked as a project manager on the adaptive reuse of a 1925 single-bay firehouse to a community senior center. Collaborated with City of Bridgeport staff and the senior center administration to establish project phasing and generate building program. Analyzed existing conditions and coordinated engineering to produce construction documents.

Project manager and production team member for community, educational, public housing, and commercial projects. Worked directly with clients, engineers, and contractors from initial project concept through construction. Produced architectural graphics, presentations, and production drawings across all project phases. Also, was solely responsible for completing physical assessments for existing properties and producing capital expenditure plans.

Acted as the lead production member for a K-5 school security and media center renovation project. Collaborated directly with Farmington Public School Administration, the school principal, engineers, and State Grants commissions to produce schematic and bid documents for State Review. Oversaw the project team to ensure all design criteria was met or exceeded.

This community center project was conceptualized in 2017 after researching the growth of the opioid epidemic in America. My sister, an elementary teacher, spoke with me about the challenges she has witnessed for families and individuals dealing with addiction. As a result of these discussions, the goal of this project was to introduce addiction and social welfare departments in a site that provides anonymity and choice to the visitor. The solid exterior of the building provides a sense of security, permanence, and grounding of the building to the site. Contrastingly, the large open core and meandering paths reflect the natural forest outside and generates transient spaces.

By transforming the site into a dense forest, the individual can privately or publicly “wander” throughout the property without feeling the stigma of an addiction center or a social services center. The broad range of program gathers all types of people throughout the building and site. The combination of scenic natural environments, large public spaces, and meanderings paths provide the visitor with choice, time, and space to reflect and comfortably make changes.

A masterful orator captures the imagination and allows the listener to escape from their reality. This theater venue initiates that process through a dramatic change of space, materiality, and texture, to guide the visitor to be aware of the direct environment. The procession begins with a loose graveled walkway around a cold, metal shelled mass. The shell is then “cracked� open at the entry, enticing the curiosity of the visitor.

SPOKEN WORD THEATER
The lobby, a cavern-like concrete space, discomforts the individual and pushes them into the center of the room and with the other guests. Upon entering the theater, the warm glow of the leaf like canopy contrasts with the lobby and generates an intimate, warm, fantasy – like atmosphere. The leaning walls, low undulating canopy, and textured surfaces provide an organic space to focus on the storied performance.

The architectural design process included in-depth examination of the existing conditions to maximize efficiency, provide essential daylighting, and create protected green spaces around a new elementary school addition. The addition is a result of the town merging a 1960’s era Pre-K through 1st grade school to the newer 2nd- 5th grade school. Concerned about losing the identity of the older school, the proposed design utilizes bold geometric forms to establish a unique and youthful language. The colorful frames around each classroom highlight the connection between interior and exterior spaces, and the rounded and crooked planes promote a more playful “kid forward” aesthetic.

The Stamford location was to be the modern branch for a bank identified by federal architecture. This project, the first fully managed and completed project in my work experience, required a full interior demolition and renovation of an existing 1970’s bank building. The main banking hall is surrounded by large areas of glazing, allowing the space to receive daylight. A neutral palette, darker furniture, and sharp lighting is used to contrast and draw attention to the brand’s navy-blue color, while remaining economical.

FAMILY RESIDENCE
A MODERN FARMHOUSE A Family Residence Avon, Connecticut Independent Commision; 2018 Design/Permit Documents
I was independently commissioned to design a hillside single-family residence in suburban Avon, CT. For this project, I persuaded the clients towards a “contemporary” farmhouse style. The Greek revival farmhouse is a staple of rural Connecticut vernacular as the state was an agricultural leader in the mid-1800s. In turn, the design was developed as a series of additions onto a typical “T” plan farmhouse. The exterior design features distinct symmetries, minimalistic trim, vertical clapboard siding, and large four paned windows that modernize the façade, yet echo the detailing of the traditional architecture. The kitchen was left open to a vaulted living room where a catwalk was created. This central space is full of light and reflects the client’s values of relaxed family-oriented living.

This performing arts center explored architectural section and flexibility of theater design. This building, located in a small site, provides a rehearsal studio, a black box theater, and a concert hall that can be combined into one large musical theater space. This modularity of space allows the building to remain occupied with all types of performances and to be used by all parts of the community.
