WEST ELM WEST ELM, OWNED BY WILLIAM SONOMA INC. IS A HIGH END RETAIL STORE CONSISTING OF A MIXTURE OF HOME GOODS SUCH AS FURNITURE, LIGHTING AND VARIOUS SMALL HOME ACCESSORIES. ABOUT THE TEAM: A FULLY DEDICATED TEAM TO THIS CLIENT WAS DEVELOPED RANGING FROM JUNIOR DESIGNERS, DESIGNERS, PROJECT ARCHITECTS, JOB CAPTAINS AND PROJECT MANAGERS. PERSONAL DUTIES: ASSET MANAGEMENT, DRAFTING, DUE DILIGENCE, 3D-MODELING



HAND FEASIBILITY EXAMPLE: ‘Hand Feasibility ‘ is a term that the client uses to request a rough layout of existing assets. This is typically done by one of the lead designers on the team as they have the best understanding of the clients needs and desires. The breakdown of spaces between FOH (Front of House) and BOH (Back of House) is incredibly important and takes many careful calculations to achieve as you can see through the charts provided.

CLIENT:

Cancer Pathways, a non-profit organization that is committed to helping those who have been affected by cancer. This remodel and redesign of their art therapy room was a part of a year-long firm wide initiative to give back to the community, which they titled 21 Rooms. With the hard work of many designers at the firm, local representatives who were gracious enough to donate items such as casework and furniture, and our partnering company Sellen Construction, IA Seattle was able to see this vision through from beginning to end. Additionally, IA was awarded the 2019 Corporate Visionary Award for our efforts.

ROLE:

Demo and Build Team

DUTIES:

Consisted of but not limited to painting walls, ceilings, trim, and assisting with murals for both spaces. Assembling furniture, applying trim, preparing work surfaces, and cleaning.

PUPPIES ON PARADE: CLIENT:

Puppies on Parade was an event that was hosted by Catalyst and Herman Miller supporting design for a better cause. Many other large design firms participated along with IA Interior Architects in creating a spin off of the famous Magis Puppy by Herman Miller. Each team was gifted on single white Magis Puppy with the task of redesigning it to fit a specific concept. A silent auction was held at the end of the event with all proceeds going toward the Seattle Humane Sociaty.

ROLE:

Lead Designer for IA Interior Architects Team.

DUTIES:

Concept development, design implimentation, construction and assembly, asset mnagement.


SCHEMATIC DESIGN & IDEATION

CONCEPT:

Our concept was inspired by the story of the Magis Puppy as a childs play toy that was intentionally left blank in order to stimulate their imagination and encourage them to do what kids do best: Play, Imagine, and Create. With this concept in mind, we began to veiw our puppy through the eyes of a child, ulltimatly landing on not only the appearance of our Puppy but what it could potentially remind us of. As a team of all women, we all nostagically reminisced about wanting a pony at one point in time and thought about trips to the merrygo-round just to see our favorite horse. We experimented with different textures, focusing on hair that could be played with and styled, a handmade saddle modeled after a real one, and finished by adding a small music box at the base. We used mostly found objects in our design.

IA Interior Architects took home the 2019 Award for Best in Show that night.
