EXISTING EXTERIOR
CONCEPT Center Ice is the first ice skating arena and training facility in the city of Athens, Georgia. Located in the heart of downtown and occupying the 5th, 6th and 7th floors of the newly finished Washington Street Parking Deck, Center Ice offers both exclusive world class training for ice sports and public sessions for community recreation. The driving concept of the design was inspired by the intricate and interwoven patterns carved into the ice by skaters’ blades. These patterns are reflected in both ceiling and floor treatments and other material choices throughout the facility. The combination of curved patterns in the ice and the fluid movement of a figure skater are mimicked in the interior architecture and space planning. Light, nature and transparency play an important role in the design as well. The triple story arena features floor to ceiling window walls that not only provide city panoramic views, but give skaters a connection to nature. The windows bathe the arena with a surplus of natural light. The goal was to create a facility that catered to the physical, emotional and psychological needs of the competitive figure skater. Center Ice intends to invigorate athletes in their skating by using skaters themselves as an inspiration.
SITE LOCATION 125 W. Washington Street Athens, Georgia 30601

SHINJUKU GRAND HOTEL
CONCEPT The Shinjuku Grand Hotel is a 5-Star hotel located in the Shinjuku district of Tokyo, Japan. The hotel interior is inspired by its modern architectural exterior and the surrounding lively city. The design infuses contemporary elements of city life and traditional elements of Japanese culture. The designers incorporated weaving motifs inspired by Japanese woven tatami mats throughout each space. The color palette was roused by Japan’s flora and fauna and Tokyo’s vibrant city lights. The Shinjuku Grand Hotel is a grand, modern, and luxurious space. INSPIRATION BOARD

TOM’S CONCEPT PRODUCED BY AN AUTODESK EDUCATIONAL PRODUCT
In 2006, American traveler Blake Mycoskie befriended children in Argentina and found they had no shoes to protect their feet. Wanting to help, he created TOMS shoes, a company that would match every pair of shoes purchased with a pair of new shoes given to a child in need. The One for One movement is about people making choices that improve the lives of children. TOMS now gives in over 20 countries and works with charitable partners in the field who incorporate shoes into their health, education, hygiene, and community development programs. Although TOMS shoes can be purchased online and in a number of retail stores, TOMS does not have its own free-standing retail store. The company’s sustainability served as the driving concept for creating a unique retail space. Only sustainable materials and finishes, such as coconut hardwood flooring, reclaimed wood, concrete and low VOC paints were chosen to match the philosophy of the company.
