Released on October 16th, 2007 in England and on October 19th in Australia, White Diamond DVD is indeed a real diamond for fans. Directed and produced by William Baker, this DVD takes us into Kylie Minogue’s life during her «Showgirl: The Homecoming Tour», which marks her big return after her succesful fight against breast cancer. Filmed between August 2006 and March 2007, the singer takes us on tour, behind the scenes, and confides herself in numerous interviews throughout the documentary. Back on one of Kylie’s most personal projects.

PRODUCTION On 17th of May, 2005, Kylie Minogue was forced to cancel the Australian leg of her Showgirl tour after being diagnosed with breast cancer. This is the story of her homecoming.

« Are you scared ? Do you think this tour is the symbol of your healing? » «Yes, I was waiting impatiently at the hospital. The difference is that at this time I didn’t know if I could do it. Many people ask me why I persist. Because I want to do it». Filmed by William Baker, White Diamond invites us in the intimacy of Kylie Minogue. This was not obvious for the singer, because when it asked what is she afraid of about this DVD, it is the images that will come out. Kylie has a huge trust in William Baker, a long-time friend, without whom she would never have done this film, because she wants to keep a certain privacy. She said :

« I don’t know how much I’ll be able to give myself » Several times, Kylie Minogue wanted to stop filming. William Baker knew that it would be complicated, but he wanted to get Kylie out of her cocoon, and push her up. Basically, the film was originally meant to be just a bonus to the concert DVD, but given the length of the shoot, they decided to make a real documentary.

« For most people, Neighbours, ‘I Should Be So Lucky,’ Michael Hutchence, gold hot pants, ‘Can’t Get You Out of My Head,’ and cancer equals Kylie. I want to rip that surface away and I think that’s what scares you the most » A part of the film was shot in August 2007 in London, where Kylie has lived for 20 years. We see her joining the dance studio and seeing her choreo-

grapher and dancers who were there to prepare the tour, before going to do some musical rehearsals and work on the various promo pictures that accompanied Showgirl: Homecoming Tour. Ruary McPhie filmed the English side, cause William Baker unable to do it. Throughout the documentary, there are cuts with bits of black and white interviews made by Baker, where Kylie tells more about her emotions and feelings. We can also see the singer behind the scenes preparing her tour in Milan, also an appointment with the creators of Dolce & Gabbana who made the catwoman costume and boxing gloves with «KM» on it, or in Paris, at Chanel, during the fashion week. We follow Kylie until her return on stage, during her tour, and events such as the launch of her Darling perfume, or during her visit to the Cancer Council in Brisbane. Kylie said White Diamond was «a good way to thank the fans for their support».

REVIEWS Unfortunately, the DVD received largely negative reviews from the press. Many compared it to the Madonna film «Truth Or Dare» released in 1991. The Evening Times gave only 2 stars out of 5 to the project, considering that Baker was too close to the subject, and that «We never see Minogue cry, shout, bitch, get tipsy or mauldin». However Kathy McCabe of the Daily Telegraph gave a favorable opinion to the film, saying that «Kylie reveals her hopes and fears, all with a few tears in White Diamond,» and also, most of the reviews on proper sites like Rotten Tomatoes or IMDb are very positive, with a score of 100% for one and 7.8 out of 10 for the other. Many fans also considered that Baker put himself too much in the film, compared to Kylie’s actual time on screen.

SONG Many songs accompany the documentary. The first, White Diamond, was written by Scissor Sisters. This is the only new song played during the tour. Two other new songs, «I’m Hip» and «You Are There» are in the film, as is «Alone Again», co-written by Madonna and Rick Nowels.

PREMIERES A premiere of the film was organized in England on October 16th, 2007 in all cinemas « Vue Cinema » of the country. Kylie was at the premiere of Leicester Square. She arrived in a dress with many diamonds, and more than 1 million euros of jewelry. She was accompanied by Dannii Minogue, and actor Rupert Everett. Another premiere was organized in Australia, at the « Village Cinemas » on October 19th, 2007, and in New Zealand at the « Skycity Cinemas », on November 16th, 2007. All those who attended the premiere in New Zealand received a copy of Kylie’s new single, «2 Hearts».

FORMATS AND OFFICIAL RELEASES The documentary was released on DVD on December 10th, 2007, and exists in two editions: European and English, and Australian / New Zealand. In England, the DVD contains two discs, one with the show (Showgirl: The Homecoming Tour), filmed on December 11th, 2006 in Melbourne, Australia. It also contains bonus tracks, such as the song «Kids» performed by Kylie and Dannii, and five songs filmed in London on May 6th, 2005, at Earls Court. 1

Kylie Minogue The Locomotion ÂŤThe Loco-MotionÂť is a 1962 pop song written by American songwriters Gerry Goffin and Carole King. It was originally written for Dee Dee Sharp, but she turned the song down. The song is notable for appearing in the American Top 5 three times, each time in a different decade: . in 1962 by the American pop singer Little Eva (US) . in 1974 by the American band Grand Funk Railroad (US) . in 1988 by the Australian singer Kylie Minogue (but it came out a year before in Australia). The song is a popular and enduring example of the dance-song genre: much of the lyrics are devoted to a description of the dance itself, usually performed as a type of line dance. However, the song came before the dance. The Loco-Motion is ranked 350th by Rolling Stone Magazine in its list of the 500 greatest songs of all times!

KYLIE’S LOCOMOTION It all started in early 1987 when Kylie and her Neighbours co-stars were invited to a benefit gig in aid of Fitzroy Football Club at the Festival Hall in west Melbourne. Kylie recalls “we all agreed to perform at a football fundraiser. There were about 8 of us”.

So, next thing you know, the track was recorded in Kaj Dalstrom’s Sing-Sing studios in Richmond, Victoria, with a live band and a brass section. It is said that Petherick took at his own expense the recording and production of the demo tape, hoping the he would be paid for his trouble if it became a commercial success. The recording was then sent to different record companies, of which Mushroom records, who replied positively. They signed her in 1987, so she could release her own version of the LocoMotion as soon as possible. The timing was (deliberately) perfect as the single was released in July 1987 in Australia, only 2 weeks after millions of potential record buyers had watched the Scott and Charlene wedding. It became the highest selling Australian single of the decade, reaching number 1 on the ARIA Singles Chart and staying there for 7 weeks, giving Mushroom Records their first Number One in both New Zealand and Australia.

Be Fashion!Be Minogue TWO DAYS IN PARIS WITH KYLIE

Kylie was in Paris at the occasion of Fashion Week, for two days. A short visit that was nevertheless very busy, since the singer went to different parties and exhibitions over a period of less than 48 hours. Back on her quick travel to the French capital.

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 1ST Kylie arrived at the end of the day to Paris, with Christian, her make-up artist and hairdresser, and Tully, her assistant. Right after her arrival, the singer quickly changed and got prepared for one of the most important events of Fashion Week: the Vogue event featuring the Irving Penn exhibition at Le Grand Palais. This exhibition celebrates the centenary of birth of one of the greatest photographers of the 20th century, who saw photography as a combat sport, or a dance. Covering the biggest magazine of the time, Penn signed 165 of them, unbeatable record, in more than fifty years, from 1953 to 2004. She came out later in the afternoon to go to the launch of two books by photographers Mark Borthwick and Drew Jarrett at the Trading Museum « Comme Des Garçons ». Then, she went to a dinner in a restaurant near the Champs-Elysées, before returning to her hotel, in a blue sequined jumpsuit, again designed by Stella McCartney.

Katycat or copycat ? Last month, we had a focus on Taylor Swift’s new video, «Look What You Made Me Do», which made you react a lot because of the many references with Kylie. This month, we decided to have a look at the launch of the new Katy Perry’s tour, the «Witness Tour» which contains some similarities with our beautiful Australian.

Launched in Montreal, Canada, Katy Perry’s new tour did not fail to make jaws drop! While the spectators can attend a real American show, many pop fans have found that certain acts and some outfits look strangely similar to what they had seen before, done by other artists ... Katy Perry said during her album promotion that she «loved to reinvent herself» because it is a «learning symbol» and she is «always trying new things», with this tour, it is a little off. Last month, we told you that the pop world did not reinvent itself necessarily, and that everyone copied more or less what the others had already done ... And what you will find here is a new proof! KATY PERRY VERY INSPIRED BY KYLIE MINOGUE What was most shocking to pop music fans is the similarities with Kylie’s costumes. Many of you have also made the reflection on the social networks, posting comparative pictures of the outfits between the two singers. In fact, when Katy Perry arrives on stage, the sparkling red combination she wears, with a little veil on her head, reminds us of Kylie’s mythical outfit used in the «Can’t Get Out Of My Head» . We tried to see a difference, but apart from color, it’s the same thing. Second point, the sequined wig that Kylie had on the Showgirl Homecoming Tour, with a square cut, and that Katy Perry reused exactly the same one. We can also mention an entry for a song, which will probably remind you of the entry of the X Tour on Speakerphone, and then an enormous red mouth in background decor that looks like the red sofa used by Kylie during the Kiss Me Once Tour or a large beam that reminds us of Body Language. NEWS Will we have Disco Symphony ? Maybe some of you have forgotten that song, but not us! Kylie was in the studio with Robbie Williams to record a song called Disco Symphony, written by Jimmy Carr. The song should have been released on Robbie’s previous album, remember now? We were super sad when we didn’t find it on the tracklist. It was then announced for the beginning of 2017, and never came out ... We still keep hope, especially since the British singer is about to release a new opus: Under The Radar Vol 2. Its release date is scheduled for November ... The editor’s fatal mistake happened on the COVER (!!!!) of her newest calendar shot by Steve Shaw. A shadow of a wall behind her famous asset was formed in a nice little curve

instead of going up straight. Tragedy! Imagine the picture hanging in all the stores, websites and more - all of our walls. The messed up cover immediately appeared on many gossip websites and photoshop fail insta accounts, and we can’t blame them because, you know... “Luckily“ enough, the evening before, Kylie re-tweeted a gif of Dolly Parton captioned “It’s not the hair, the lipstick or the rest of it. Your beauty is what’s inside.” And then you get caught photoshopping your ass Minogue, phew yeah, right, we’re so buying it. From a woke stan point of view, it was really funny. After all, our aphrodite wasn’t the first one nor the last one to get caught this way. Photographers and editors DO USE PHOTOSHOP ON DAILY BASIS and sometimes the celebrities do themselves. Even when you don’t think it would be needed looking at certain someone who happens to be the photographed object, the poses or lighting ask for some aspects to look a little “smoother” most of the time, whatever you think (We do not say we support it, but it’s En, October 2K17
