WELCOME HEAR. BELIEVE. SPEAK. Welcome to The 11th National Conference of The Impact Movement: The Remedy! Our theme is inspired by Romans 10:13-14: “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? The Apostle Paul testifies to the necessity of people hearing the gospel. This is true of unbelievers but it is true of us, as well. We need to be constantly reminded of the truth that has changed and is changing us. We know that Jesus is the Remedy and we cannot HEAR this truth too often. But, the challenge is to BELIEVE all that it means for our lives. Then, we are commanded to SPEAK that truth to all who will hear. We need to hear it again and again so that we will truly believe it. Not just at the point of salvation, but in the day to day difficulties, decisions and dilemmas of life.

But, it doesn’t stop there. We are called to speak (preach) this truth to others. We have the cure for the world’s spiritually fatal disease – sin, and Jesus is the Remedy! We hope this year’s Impact conference will remind you of these truths, equip you to live them out, and give you the opportunity to put into practice that which you learn - even before you leave New Orleans! We have four days to be challenged and transformed. Let’s set our eyes toward eternity.

REMEDY PRAYERS PRAISE GOD for allowing us to make it here safely. Pray that while we’re here, and afterward, our hearts and ears would be open to what God has to say through His word and His speakers. Ask God to lead the speakers to deliver messages that will connect with every listener. Ask God to empower us by His Spirit to not just be hearers of His word, but to be doers also.

PRAISE GOD for the opportunity to share the truth of the gospel with others during the Day of Outreach. Pray that we would go out in the power of the Holy Spirit, share what He gives us to say, and leave the results to Him. Ask God to begin to prepare the hearts of all those we will encounter on that day. Ask God to continue to water the seeds (God’s truth) that will be shared with them long after that day.

PRAISE GOD that we are not alone in following Christ, we are a part of His body. Pray that we would continue to connect and unite with others. Ask God to raise up new leaders in our midst who will begin movements of prayer, discipleship, Bible study, community service and outreach on their campuses, jobs and in their communities.

PRAISE GOD for using The Impact Movement to encourage us in our faith walks and challenge us to grow. Pray about how God might lead us to invest in ministry partnership with The Impact Movement and by serving with Impact’s ministry fellowship program or joining full-time staff.

BEING HIS

HANDS, HIS FEET with

s

ix months after Hurricane Katrina battered New Orleans, in March 2006 The Impact Movement launched the Impact N.O.W. (New Orleans Work) Project. This project was the first of its kind, bringing more than 500 African American men and women from across the world into the heart of New Orleans. Students gave up their spring breaks to gut houses, distribute food, and remove debris from the storm. The mission during that project: show the love of Christ by serving the community in a time of despair.

We are asking you to pray Matthew 9:37-38, that God would send out faithful workers for the harvest. We are also asking you to pray that God will select and connect our outreach teams with men and women who confess and believe Jesus as Lord of their lives. Lastly, please pray for a true sense of peace throughout this day and for the entire conference. We are thankful you are here to take part in this experience and trusting the Lord for how He’ll use this time to change your life as well.

Today, five years later, we seek to continue serving the New Orleans community through the Day of Outreach at this year’s Impact national conference. Whereas during Impact N.O.W. we sought to serve the physical needs of the community, today we seek to serve the spiritual needs by providing the “Remedy” of the good news of Jesus Christ. The Day of Outreach is a strategic intentional effort to train, equip, and mobilize conferees for the purpose of sharing Christ’s message of love and hope. Our vision is seeing the community of New Orleans transformed with the saving grace of Jesus Christ through the vessel of African American students and students of African descent. We have partnered with over 20 churches and community organizations in the New Orleans surrounding area to make that vision a reality.

REMEDY FOR ME THE

with

Y

ou’re here! Welcome to The Remedy ‘11! Over the next few days you’ll experience lifechanging events! I know this because seven years ago around this exact time I was a student at Virginia Tech and I attended the Impact 2004 national conference, Run to Win, and walked away changed forever. It blew my mind to see hundreds and hundreds of students who looked like me— hungry for the Lord. Before it was all said and done, I was encouraged by the speak ers, convicted by the seminars, and exposed more to this new world of Christian Hip Hop. I was also blessed by the fellowship of meeting new people, exhausted from staying up too late and challenged to never be the same when I returned back to my campus.

My prayer for you is that you leave this conference different than you came. I pray you would experi ence the Lord either for the first time, through His gift of salvation, or find yourself refreshed and encouraged on your journey with Him. I hope that you will experience great Truth and insight through our main session speakers and find yourself surrendered during the time of worship and singing. May you feel welcomed by Mr. and Mrs. Gilmer, loved by our conference emcees Stevie G. and Francine, blown away by the community of believers and pushed more and more towards our heavenly Father. Lastly, I hope you encounter “The Remedy” these next few days and leave compelled to extend “The Remedy” to the rest of the World.

I never thought I would walk away from that conference with my life perspective, goals and passion flipped upside down. PRAISE GOD for how He used that conference to be the catalyst for where I am now! Seven years later, I’m heading into my 5th year of full-time Christian work as a missionary. I’m serving with Impact Music, primarily as the DJ for LEVEL 3:16. The Lord has also given me the amazing privilege to be your Program Director for this year’s conference.

COLLEGE SEMINARS Discerning God’s Will #DecisionsDecisions

Dec. 29, 2-3:30pm & Dec 30, 1:30-3pm| Imperial 3 As you are entering your junior and senior year of college there are so many questions that need to be answered. The one question that seems to unanimously plague us as college students is “What’s next?” What happens when you feel God’s leading you separate from your major or when your parents want something from you that you are just not feeling. Let’s talk about discerning God’s will as we wade through the depth of these tough #DecisionsDecisions

Growing with God #gottaGrow

Dec. 29, 2-3:30pm & Dec 30, 1:30-3pm | Bechet Are you having trouble developing a quiet time with God? Or not sure what exactly that means and even how to develop this personal relationship with God? Come out to find effective ways to build a solid relationship with God that can help you to become closer to Him. We can’t stay where we are, we #GottaGrow!

Sexual Purity #LetsTalkAboutSex

Dec. 29, 2-3:30pm & Dec 30, 1:30-3pm | Irish Channel 1 Sex has become the magnet of our culture. Sex is explicitly placed throughout music, television shows, movies, commercials, advertisements and even within our school systems. Yet, it seems to be a taboo issue when sex is bought up in Christian settings. Well, it’s relevant. We can’t ignore what’s right around us. Join us and #letstalkaboutsex.

A Panel Discussion on Greek Life #GreekLife:2BorNOT2B

Dec. 29, 2-3:30pm | Trianon You’ve seen the jackets, heard the calls and witnessed the probates. Maybe you have even crossed the sands. Whether you’re from an HBCU or have seen movies like Stomp the Yard, you have noticed the popular presence of Greek organizations on your campus. Be a part of this interesting panel discussion on the pros and cons of #GreekLife as a believer from multiple viewpoints.

Servant Leadership #LeadLikeJesus

Dec. 29, 2-3:30pm | Irish Channel 2 Our society has a skewed view of leadership that says leaders must claw their way to the top; that leaders must be tough, show no mercy and flaunt their power. That’s not what Jesus says. The biblical view of leadership is that of a servant; Jesus traded his robes of glory for a towel and wash basin. Find out how to lead those around you as a servant; find out how to #LeadLikeJesus.

Stewardship #GoodStewards

Dec. 29, 2-3:30pm | Johnson We can often be quite reckless when we are using things of our own. However, when we understand that we are taking care of someone else’s stuff, we take better care of it. Come to this seminar and join the conversation about how we are to be #GoodStewards over what God has loaned us.

Prayer & Fasting #TalkingToGod

Dec. 29, 2-3:30pm | Bucktown 1 Ever wonder if you pray “correctly”? How about fasting? What does it really mean to fast effectively and how do we sacrifice to God in that way? This seminar will cover the biblical view of prayer and fasting and provide practical insight on how to position yourself during times of #TalkingToGod.

Staying Out of Debt #CreditCounts

Dec 30, 1:30-3pm | Bucktown 1 Credit cards are perfect for the here and now; they provide money to buy laundry detergent, umbrellas on that random rainy day and that new pair of shoes that you promise to pay off with the refund check that you are so excited about! Nevertheless, we tend to be somewhat uninformed on how to build our credit, instead of ruining it. We swipe all day, but we need to realize that #CreditCounts!

Boundaries #JustSayNo

Dec 30, 1:30-3pm | Imperial 4 Balancing our obligations and all the requests we receive can be overwhelming. How do we know if the good things we say yes to are God things? The good is often the worst enemy of the best. Boundaries will help us be successful in life and ministry. Let’s talk about how and why we must #JustSayNo to good things!

Dealing with Wounds #BrokenButNOTdestroyed

Dec 30, 1:30-3pm | Irish Channel 2 There are times that disasters unapologetically drop amidst our everyday lives and we find ourselves walking amongst the broken pieces. The question is not will we, as Christians, experience these hurts and afflictions. Rather, how we as Christians respond to being wounded and broken, how to forgive others and deal with unwelcomed pain and shattered dreams. Come with an expectancy because you are #BrokenButNOTdestroyed

Community Engagement #IactBYtutoring

The Remedy in the Workplace, Panel Discussion

Dec. 29, 1:30-3pm | Imperial 1 How do we bring glory to God, exercise the Great Commission, and succeed as a professional? How can we be the same person Monday through Friday as we are on Sunday? Do we need to spout Christian-ese at business meetings so that people know that we are Christians? Can we translate Christian-ese to a more culturally relevant language? Is being selfless sufficient to demonstrate Christ to co-workers when many educated and atheistic cultures emulate selflessness also? Come hear from a panel of seasoned professionals about how to apply your faith in a professional workplace.

Life Goals: Stewarding Assets while discerning God’s Will, Panel Discussion

Dec 30, 1:30-3pm | Imperial 1 What should we be working towards? Christ says do not worry about tomorrow, but Money Magazine says to be sure to sock away enough money for retirement and children’s education. Should I be looking for the job that makes me the most money so I can give the most away, or should I be working in a job that pays little but helps ‘the least’? Our panelists will help us determine how to be a good steward of the assets, talents, skills, and desires God has given us, without allowing money to stand in the way of performing His will.

CHURCH LEADERSHIP TRACK When Nobody’s Looking...

Dec 29, 4-5:30pm | Oliver While we minister, preach and/or teach to so many others, it is easy to allow our wells to run dry. This seminar will communicate the importance of our core values; having integrity, accountability and character as church leaders.

IMPACTing the Local Church

Dec 30, 11:00am-12:30pm | Oliver The Impact Movement has skillfully been present on college campuses all over the United States and abroad. In this seminar, find out how local churches can partner with Impact in a mutually beneficial relationship to advance the Kingdom.

Building Creative Resources

Dec 30, 1:30-3pm | Imperial 2 The church runs off of tithes and offerings. However, as pastors and church leaders, we know that sometimes it is difficult to continue to ask our members to give and give, especially in times of economic challenge. Interestingly enough, your churches are a part of a larger community and there are resources you may not have tapped into yet. In this seminar, learn about the creative ways you and your church can build capacity by tapping into the resources right around you by being intentional and aware.

LEVEL ONE MUSIC MISSIONARY’S EXPERIENCE

with

H

ow has being a musicmissionary changed my life? I fully depend on God to move in the hearts of people, to provide a roof over my head, food in the fridge, gas in my car – to meet every need. This concept was unusual to me at first because this is not how I was raised. My mother is hard-working and has always earned her own money. She taught me to be the same way. As musicianaries with The Impact Movement – missionaries who share the gospel through music – Level 3:16 band members personally develop a team of ministry partners. These partners include individuals, families, churches and organizations that regularly pray for us and give financially to make our ministry possible. There is no better feeling than introducing people to the love of God. I find it so humbling that God saw fit to use my life and my testimony for the saving of many souls. As Francis Chan says in his book Crazy Love, “My existence was not random, nor was it an accident. God knew who He was creating, and He designed me for a specific work.” Having this perspective definitely changes the way I live.

was going to share Christ through music, but I never anticipated a future of being a missionary developing funding for my ministry. I have seen God work on my heart in so many special ways. I have gained a higher appreciation for people and learned the value of relationships. I have also witnessed amazing generosity. When I was just getting started serving in ministry with Impact, I needed to relocate in order to expand my team of partners, but I couldn’t afford to rent an apartment. Some good friends of mine offered to let me stay in their home. When they told me how much I had to pay for rent, I only had enough for two months. As I continued to develop new ministry partners, God took care of my housing expenses for almost a year. I was also given a brand new truck! Not to mention, he also raised up my team of partners at the same time and now I am a fully funded “musicianary.” Praise God for his mercy and favor!

(continued on page 66)

This is also a totally different lifestyle than I expected. I knew I

I am constantly reminded of Acts 4:32 that says, “All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they shared everything they had.” It’s one thing to read this scripture, but another to actually experience it for yourself. I am blessed to have the opportunity to serve in an area of ministry I love so much and I pray that I am able to be fruitful in this season of my life. I’d encourage anyone who is considering full-time ministry to step out in faith and know that God will honor your commitment.
