Advocating for Safer Paths, Roads and Trails

Bike Alpharetta Inc. is a 501C3 non-profit community organization that began in 2011. Members are local residents and business leaders who generously volunteer their time and talents throughout the year to advocate and to educate for improved cycling infrastructure in Alpharetta. The main focus is to create a safer and more enjoyable environment for people of all abilities to utilize bicycles for an improved lifestyle in our community. With a grant from REI, Bike Alpharetta was able to create and publish City Bike Route Maps for the City of Alpharetta. More than 10,000 printed maps are distributed each year. The grant also provided resources to produce new signage along the city’s only mountain bike trails, Mt. Adams, located on the northern section of the Big Creek Greenway. In 2018, the League of American Bicyclists designated the City of Alpharetta as a bronze-level Bicycle Friendly Community. This recognizes Alpharetta for its investment in infrastructure, education and outreach to better enable and inspire people to ride bicycles, be it for recreation or transportation. Bike Alpharetta is proud to have been part of the BFC process. Bike Alpharetta continues to provide suggestions and input to City leaders for future bicycle facilities and infrastructure improvements. Coming to fruition in 2021, examples include the extension of the Greenway from Marconi drive north to McGinnis Ferry Road; Kimball Bridge Road bike lanes and multi-use paths, and expansion of the Alpha Loop. Bikes For Kids Alpharetta is the largest community program managed by Bike Alpharetta. Donations of new and gently-used youth bicycles and tricycles are accepted from spring to fall (see the website for details), with generous support from the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety and area bicycle shops. Volunteers with Bike Alpharetta designate ONE DAY in December to clean and repair the donations, turning them into safe and Santa-ready childrens’ gifts for the North Fulton Community Charities holiday program.
