CHURCH BASEMENT LADIES 2 – A SECOND HELPING

Derby Dinner Playhouse will present the new musical comedy Church Basment Ladies 2 - A Second Helping, opening August 14 and running through October 7, 2012. For ticket information please call 812-288-8281 or visit www.derbydinner.com They’re servin’ up a sequel! And as always, you’ll laugh until your “side-dish” hurts at the hilarious antics and down-to-earth charm of the ladies in the church basement. This time around, the year is 1969 and the world is changing. As folks protest the Vietnam War and women are demanding equal pay for equal work, in their small rural Minnesota community, the ladies of the Lutheran church basement kitchen are dealing with changes of their own. From the elderly matriarch of the kitchen to the young mom-to-be, these women find strength in one another. Church Basment Ladies 2 - A Second Helping was inspired by the books of Janet Martin and Suzann Nelson, including the best seller “Growing Up Lutheran.” The musical was written by Greta Grosch with Music and Lyrics by Drew Jansen and Dennis Curley. Songs featured in Church Basement Ladies 2 are “Everyone Knows A Church Basement Lady,” “Get Back In The Game,” “Old Dog, New Tricks,” “You Never Know,” and more. The original production, Church Basement Ladies , premiered at Derby Dinner in 2011 to record crowds. Church Basment Ladies 2 - A Second Helping is under the direction of Bekki Jo Schneider with choreography by Barbara F. Cullen and musical direction by Scott Bradley. The cast will include Derby Dinner favorites Cary Wiger, Janet Essenpreis, Elizabeth Loos, Michelle Johnson, and Tina Jo Wallace. WorldFest 2012, August 31-September 2 During this year’s Labor Day weekend you can “see the world without leaving town” at Louisville’s annual WorldFest, August 31-September 2. WorldFest, Kentucky’s largest international festival, is held in downtown Louisville on the Belvedere all day long. The festival combines music and dance performances, local ethnic cuisine, craft booths, a parade of cultures, and a naturalization ceremony--individuals taking their U.S. oath of citizenship-- into an unforgettable international experience. Providing an opportunity for individuals to immerse themselves in the international and ethnic community of Louisville, WorldFest celebrates the vast cultural differences that ultimately unite us all. The event features continuous international and local music and talent on three different stages. Delicious, authentic cuisine from Thailand, Jamaica, Ethiopia, Germany, and more will be available. New to this year’s WorldFest is the Global Village, which turns the Belvedere overlook into an explosion of colors, cultures, performances, and activities, where countries from all continents will congregate under one roof. WorldFest is great for kids, too. World of Discovery, the children’s event, includes free educational activities, workshops, and facepainting. You can commemorate your WorldFest experience with handmade products with styles from Africa, Asia, Europe, and Central and South America. Over 90 languages are spoken in Louisville public schools. The number of Louisville’s international residents has increased significantly in the past 15 years; Louisville is more culturally diverse than ever before. Celebrate the beauty of cultural diversity at this wonderful event. The event sponsors ask that you bring canned goods to support Dare to Care Food Bank.
