Arena in Choas Jeff Dunham’s “Controlled Chaos" July 22 World renowned ventriloquist Jeff Dunham will perform at the KFC Yum! Center on July 22 as a part of his “Controlled Chaos” tour. Dubbed “America’s favorite comedian” by slate.com, Dunham combines brassy reverence for the politically incorrect with a virtuoso’s command of the art of ventriloquism, drawing comparisons to puppeteer-predecessors like Edgar Bergen. Even his troupe of puppets-Achmed, Walter, Bubba J, Peanut, and little Jeff—has achieved celebrity status, providing mouthpieces for Dunham to say the things we think but don’t say. His performances, full of irony and stereotype-mocking, are hilariously and profoundly penetrative; he is sure to entertain a range of audiences. His intelligence and dedication evident, Dunham has cultivated a unique style, amassed an enormous fan base, and already made his mark in comedic history. In addition, Kentucky resonates with Dunham. Every year he attends an international meeting of ventriloquists- the Vent Haven ConVENTion- held not far from Louisville in Fort Mitchell, Kentucky. The convention, a combination of workshops and competitions, provides professionals and amateurs alike with a common venue to share stories, offer advice, and discuss new techniques. The convention has appropriately named the venerable Jeff Dunham a “retired champion.” Dunham is on Forbes magazine’s Celebrity 100 roster of most powerful entertainers, and his “Controlled Chaos” tour was named Pollstar’s Number One Comedy Tour in North America for three years running. The show starts at 5pm; tickets are $48.50 reserved seating, which includes the facility fee. Tickets may be purchased at the KFC Yum! Center and online at www.ticketmaster.com. 3

Rockin the KFC Yum! Center KISS and Mötley Crüe

If you want to “Rock and Roll All Night Long,” and “Shout at the Devil” with “Girls, Girls, Girls,” then you need to be at the KFC Yum! Center, August 1. KISS and Mötley Crüe are touring together for the second time in three decades. The two legendary bands were on tour together in 1982. KISS was formed in 1973 in New York City. The hard rock icons have 28 gold albums and over 100 million in album sales worldwide. The band is known for its signature black and white makeup, black leather costumes, and hits such as “Detroit Rock City,” “I Love It Loud,” and “Beth.” Mötley Crüe, the heavy metal kings from California, have been around since 1981. The story is they added the umlauts to their name because they were inspired by their favorite beer – Löwenbräu. They are currently writing material for their 10th album. The first nine have sold 25 million copies in the US, and 80 million worldwide. Among their top hits: “Kickstart My Heart,” “Home Sweet Home,” and “Dr. Feelgood.” The bands will each play 90 minute sets. When the tour was first announced, Paul Stanley of KISS said, “This will be the definition of bang for buck on this tour. If you want to see more bombs and artillery, you’ll have to check out the military.” If you missed the point, he added, “You will be deaf and blinded, you will leave there stumbling out.”

A Flame Burns Bright for Taylor Amerman

One Louisville native got a jump on involvement in the London Olympics. Taylor Amerman, a 23 year old graduate of Ballard High School and the University of Kentucky, carried the Olympic torch through Nottingham, England, at the end of June. Taylor is studying for a master’s degree in corporate social responsibility at the University of Nottingham. When she arrived in England last fall, she learned about the torch relay and applied to be one of the torch bearers. All of England’s major universities were invited to provide two students and one faculty member to be in the torch relay. The official torch relay website lists Taylor’s nomination story: “Taylor is an American student studying Corporate Social Responsibility, and Taylor personifies both diversity and responsibility in everything she does. She runs half marathons in honour of her father who suffers from multiple sclerosis. She also gives back to the community through the YMCA, as a mentor through Big Brothers Big Sisters Programme. She also serves as a role model to new students at the University. She is dedicated to making the global community a better place through volunteering and philanthropy and she feels the Olympics is a great opportunity to showcase this.” “I had to go through a big-time background check” to become one of the 8,000 torch bearers, Taylor said. She could keep the torch, but only if she paid for it. She also purchased tickets to attend some of the Olympic events. She was given Adidas gear to wear while she carried the torch. “The Olympics is about inspiring others,” Taylor says, adding “I’m speaking at some local primary schools and volunteering in local programs that get students to learn about other countries around the world in honor of the Olympics.” Taylor already personifies the Olympic spirit in several ways. In addition to her life-long commitment to volunteering, Taylor played lacrosse at U of K and at Queen’s University in Belfast, Ireland, and currently lives with roommates from Turkey and Kenya, as well as England.

Krish Dhanam: a top sales training expert who came to America and discovered the secret strategies that lead to true prosperity. Tony Dungy: Super Bowl winner, both as player and coach, and the first African-American coach to win the Super Bowl, discusses being a mentor and being a leader. Steve Forbes: chairman and editor-in-chief of Forbes Media imparts how to leverage economic conditions to make the sale and how to get ahead and stay ahead. Dakota Meyer: Medal of Honor winner, and Kentucky native, uses what he learned in the military to explain the benefits of placing your team first. Danika Patrick: the most successful female driver of Indy cars, and now driving in NASCAR competition, reveals how to maintain competitive drive and determination. Rick Pittino: the U of L basketball coach appears on his home court to talk about leading to greatness and keeping the team at the top. James Smith: one of the country’s top real estate investing experts brings his 30 years of experience to cover real estate, business, and financial matters. Phil Town: the best selling author and investment expert appearing regularly on CNBC and MSNBC offers advice for small investors. If attendees Get Motivated! to pursue what they hear, they can sign up for continuing education courses offered by organizations affiliated with the seminar.
