Waterfront Park

Louisville’s scenic Waterfront Park borders the Ohio River just northeast of the KFC Yum! Center. The Waterfront Development Corporation completed construction in the 90s, and the park has been a vital part of the effort to revive downtown Louisville. The park acts as “the front door to Kentucky, a playground for people of all ages, and a gathering place for folks from all over the community.” A popular venue for concerts-including Louisville’s annual Forecastle Festival--the Waterfront Park fronts a reinvigorated downtown district with booming entertainment centers like Nulu and Fourth Street Live! Waterfront Park hosts more than 120 events every year, everything from concerts, festivals and the Fifth Third Waterfront Independence Festival, to charity walks, volleyball tournaments, weddings, and corporate picnics. There are organized events going on every weekend, Spring through Museum Row on Main Nulu late Fall, and a number of events all Fourth Street Live! Whiskey Row week long during the Summer. It is also a great place to take a relaxing, late-night Restaurant Square Waterfront Park walk or play some soccer and frisbee. Be Southern Indiana sure to visit while the weather is warm!

Get Blown Away Carrie Underwood at the KFC Yum! Center, The “reigning Queen of Country Music” Carrie Underwood will bring her chart-topping hits to Louisville’s KFC Yum! Center on September 22. Underwood broke on to the country music scene in 2005 after winning the fourth season of American Idol, the network television talent-telescope that turns everyday Americans into rockstars overnight. In just seven years, she has released four full-length albums, received numerous Grammy and American Music Awards, and become a member of the Grand Ole Opry--an impressive resume for an artist under 30. True to country music tradition, Underwood croons about love and heartbreak, God and country; her personal interests, however, are more broad. Underwood, a self-professed animal lover, observes a vegan diet and has been twice-named the world’s “sexiest vegetarian” by PETA. In addition, she dabbles in philanthropy, specifically benefiting cancer research. In 2008, Underwood collaborated with female powerhouses Beyonce, Mariah Carey, and Mary J. Blige to record the song “Just Stand Up!,” the proceeds of which were donated to the Stand Up to Cancer program. The effort was wildly successful and resulted in nearly 75 million dollars being directed towards groundbreaking research. This show is a part of Carrie Underwood’ss “Blown Away” tour. Country artist Hunter Hayes will open for Underwood at the KFC Yum! Center show. Hayes is a twenty-year old singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist signed to Nashville’s Atlantic Records and is touring in support of his newest self-titled album. Tickets are between $42.50 and $62.50 and may be purchased at the KFC Yum! Center. Tickets may also be purchased at all Ticketmaster outlets, through Ticketmaster Charge by Phone at 1-800-745-3000 and online at www.ticketmaster.com. The show begins at 7:30 pm.

London Comes to Louisvil e Kellogg’s Tour of Gymnastics Champions 2012 The Olympic fervor continues at the KFC Yum! Center on October 25 when the Kellogg’s Tour of Gymnastics Champions comes to Louisville. The 2012 tour is “bigger and better than ever,” featuring men and women gymnasts from the 2008 and 2012 Olympics. Notable gymnasts include five-time Olympic medalist and 2008 Olympic all-around champion Nastia Liukin, 2012 Olympic all-around and team gold medalist Gabby Douglas, 2012 Olympic team gold medalist and vault silver medalist McKayla Maroney, 2008 Olympic team bronze medalist and horizontal bar silver medalist Jonathan Horton, and many more. In addition, the performance will conclude with a Meet & Greet where platinum ticket holders will have the chance to meet members of the tour cast. Justin Bieber at the KFC Yum! Center You better belieb it: Justin Bieber is coming to Louisville on Friday, November 2 at 7 pm. In 2008 talent manager Scooter Braun discovered the Canadian singer-songwriter on YouTube and immediately arranged a meeting with American R&B sensation Usher Raymond; the rest is history. Bieber’s meteoric rise to prominence illustrates a trend among up-and-coming artists of using the internet to facilitate their careers. With over 15 million albums sold and several world tours under his belt, Bieber has established an undeniable public presence and garnered a global fan base. His Twitter account is the second most popular behind Lady Gaga’s; his YouTube channel has attracted millions of views. In 2012 Forbes named Bieber the third most powerful celebrity in the world--and he’s only 18. Bieber’s rapid success is sort of unprecedented, and one hopes that the constant pressure of the public eye does not overwhelm and wreck someone so young and full of potential. For the moment, however, the teen heartthrob’s potential seems unlimited. Bieber sold out the KFC Yum! Center when he performed here in November of 2010 to a crowd of 22,000 Beliebers (the portmanteau used to designate a Bieber fan). For his 2012 “Believe” tour, which the Yum! Center show is a part of, Bieber is supported by fellow Canadian pop-sensation Carly Rae Jepsen, whose song “Call Me Maybe” will be stuck in people’s heads for years to come. Check out the QR code below for a sneak peak. Tickets are $85, $69.50, $59.50, and $39.50, reserved. This price includes the facility fee. There is a ticket limit of eight per person for the first day of sale. Tickets may be purchased at the KFC Yum! Center. Tickets also may be purchased at all Ticketmaster outlets, through Ticketmaster Charge by Phone at 1-800-745-3000 and online at www.ticketmaster.com. A number of VIP packages will also be offered on the upcoming tour. For more information, visit www.aeglive.com. 5

Arena Info AEG Facilities Takes Over Management of the KFC Yum! Center AEG Facilities and the Louisville Arena Authority (LAA) concluded negotiations to contract for a 10-year management agreement for the KFC Yum! Center. The Los Angeles-based sports, entertainment and venue organization has been a partner of the 22,000-seat multi-purpose arena since it opened in October 2010. AEG Facilities’ Dennis Petrullo, who has worked at the venue for the last two years as the director of booking and event development, will be the facility’s general manager. The KFC Yum! Center has achieved great success in attracting high profile events to Louisville since it opened in 2010, and was ranked 48th worldwide and 22nd in the U.S. in Pollstar magazine’s 2011 year-end Top 200, recognizing arenas for concert and show ticket sales. It jumped to 39th worldwide and 16th in the U.S. at end of the first quarter of 2012. “We are thrilled to further support the KFC Yum! Center and are truly honored to have this long-term partnership with the Louisville Arena Authority,” said AEG Facilities President Bob Newman. “For the past two years, we’ve shared in the arena’s success, starting with its opening in 2010. It has quickly become one of the nation’s top venues, and along with Dennis’ leadership, we look forward to building upon its foundation, and to many years of continued growth.” A 30-year industry veteran, Petrullo has been responsible for coordinating AEG Facilities’ activities at the KFC Yum! Center, plus other AEG Facilities regional venues, since 2010. Prior to joining AEG Facilities, Petrullo was the senior vice president and general manager for the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Mo. for 10 years. “I’m honored to continue working with the people of Louisville, and serve as the arena’s general manager,” said Petrullo. “In the past two years, I have worked to develop a positive relationship with the city, and the entire AEG Facilities family is excited to expand partnerships with and support all of the area residents and community stakeholders.” The 22,000-seat, state-of-the-art arena is home to the University of Louisville Men’s and Women’s Basketball programs, University of Louisville Women’s Volleyball program, and has hosted a diverse lineup of events. This summer and fall, the venue will host major tours by artists including Carrie Underwood, Big Time Rush, Eric Church and teen superstar Justin Bieber.

Battle for the Governor's Cup

Scan for a highlight video of the

2011 Louisville vs. Kentucky football game!

U of L Stomps UK

The contest for the Governor’s Cup became a bloodbath when UofL defeated UK with a score of 32-14. The annual game, played this year at the University of Louisville’s Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium on September 2, was a sight to see. The Cards took the cup last year with a 24-17 win over the cats at UK’s own Commonwealth Stadium. The Louisville/Kentucky rivalry of course has a long, sordid past; one without a clear champion. In general, Kentucky seems to have the upper hand in basketball, while Louisville usually outperforms the Cats in football. Though hugely popular in the state, ESPN also broadcasts coverage due to the rivalry gaining national attention.

The Royal Comedy Tour

The Royal Comedy Tour is coming to the KFC Yum! Center on October 6 at 8 pm. The group is composed of Mark Curry, Earthquake, Tony Rock, Bruce Bruce, and Sommore and is known for its “raw, in-your-face emotion.” Designed to celebrate comic pioneers and showcase new talent, The Royal Comedy Tour places veteran comedians alongside current voices of the industry--with hilarious results. The tour was inspired by the tradition set forth by Def Comedy Jam and Comic View, and since its start in 2009, The Royal Comedy Tour has become the longest-running, most successful urban comedy tour ever with a quarter of a million people having seen live performances. These comedians have sold out shows across the country, and this is definitely something not to miss. “The Royal Comedy Tour gives us an opportunity to discuss issues of today from our perspective,” said Sommore. “There is nothing like hearing what we as comedians think is funny. When all is said and done, people will always appreciate funny. When all else fails for them in life, they will always appreciate what’s funny. It’s the one constant they can always count on. And on this tour, we will consistently be coming with ‘the funny.’” Tickets are between $44.50 - $52.50. Tickets may be purchased at the KFC Yum! Center Ticket Office and any Ticketmaster outlet.
