Light Up Middletown is a circular driving tour with several themed areas, including a floating sea serpent in the fishing lake, Santa’s workshop, Santa’s sleigh, a train, animated swans, the American flag, a penguin village, deer leaping over the roadway, a lighted helicopter, an airplane, and a hot air balloon—all created with thousands of twinkling lights. 6 - 10 pm nightly. Light Up Louisville and Forty Nights of Lights, through Dec 31

Downtown Louisville, from the Galt House to Fourth Street Live Light Up Louisville will expand and move to Fourth Street, creating a three-block festival of lights between the Galt House and Fourth Street Live. Along with Light Up Louisville, Forty Nights of Lights features a nightly light show set to music with light projections on buildings along 4th Street. Light Up Louisville and Forty Night of Lights will end at midnight on New Year's Eve, with a lights show and fireworks celebration to welcome the new year. 3 - 9:30 pm. Free.

Light up the Levee Grand Illumination and Holiday Lights Show, through Jan 2 Newport on the Levee The illumination begins on November 20, with all the lights and Newport’s Christmas tree being officially lit. 1,250,000 points of light! Louisville Chorus

Louisville Chorus Triple Christmas Series

After an impressive 74 seasons, the Louisville Chorus is still promoting the art of choral music in Kentucky. It’s the oldest choral arts agency in the commonwealth and neighboring states, and its musical and artistic masterpieces have been performed longer than any other related agency—opera, ballet, and theatre included—in the area. Featuring a professional chorus of auditioned singers, the Louisville Chorus annually thrills audiences with a wide repertoire drawn from choral masterworks to pops, holiday to folk, family/children to Broadway, and much more.

Candlelight Christmas at Locust Grove

One of the most popular events of the season, Candlelight Christmas at Locust Grove is back. The year is 1809. Amidst the warm glow of candles, the Clark and Croghan families (played by skilled, historically-accurate costumed interpreters) wait to invite visitors to visit and partake of holiday cheer. The home itself is decorated in a manner appropriate for the "country seat" of Major William Croghan and his distinguished relatives and guests, and all manner of greens and fresh fruit enliven the windows, mantels, and staircase. For this very special festive occasion, the house is decorated in Regency-style Christmas splendor. Visitors will engage in lively conversations with family and friends of the Clarks and Croghans, while out in the hearth kitchen, recently harvested foods will be prepared over an open fire and refreshments will be on offer. In addition to the historical figures in attendance, visitors will be treated to authentic nineteenthcentury music, played expertly by a talented contemporary of Locust Grove’s founding families, and to dancing in the grand ballroom.

On the third floor, visitors can see the children’s rooms, which have been restored. Outside, guests can walk the grounds and visit the kitchen and wood shop, each of which is tended by volunteers in costume who demonstrate and discuss the daily rituals of life at the house in the nineteenth century. Meanwhile, back in 2012, there will be music, refreshments, an assortment of gift quality books to purchase, and craft time for children 3 & older from 6-8 pm Friday and 5-8 pm Saturday. The crafts will include cinnamon ornaments, fruit stamp Christmas cards, and herb & holly ornaments. Each child will be able to make a craft to take home. Locust Grove is located at 561 Blankenbaker Lane, Louisville, KY 40207. This special event will take place Friday, December 7, from 5:30-9 pm and Saturday, December 8, from 4-9 pm. These key pieces of Kentucky history were once used to carry quarts of spirits home to enjoy for later, but the crocks played a large role in bourbon history, as they linked the distilling industry, local commerce, advertising and pottery. Top Drawer: 150 Years of Bittners,through Jan 1 Frazier History Museum, 502-753-5663 Visitors can experience the old world craftsmanship of handmade furniture through the 18th and 19th centuries. “Top Drawer” is a 4,000 sq. ft. exhibition that explores how a German immigrant’s custom cabinet shop became not only a Louisville tradition, but also a nationally-renowned design firm. Reindeer Games Exhibit, through Jan 12, 2013 Flame Run Glass Studio and Gallery, 815 W Market St. Flame Run will be holding the “Reindeer Games” exhibit during the holiday season from November 1, 2012 – January 12, 2013. “Hats! Reflections in Time” showcases more than 50 refurbished hats from the museum's permanent collection. The hats date from the late 1800s to the 1980s. The Tailor of Gloucester, through Dec 1 Ursuline Arts Center, 3114 Lexington Rd The Tailor of Gloucester tells of a poor tailor who, on Christmas Eve, is commissioned by the Mayor of Gloucester to make a new coat for him for Christmas Day. The tailor worries about being able to finish on time, but his cat, Simpkin, selfishly thinks only of himself and catching mice. Ultimately, it is the mice who come to the tailor’s aid, and the cat who learns that when we give we also receive. Louisville Mega Cavern Lights Under Louisville

While Louisvillians on the surface are busy decking the halls and lighting up the city, Louisville Mega Cavern is preparing for a more subterranean holiday experience. Starting November 16th, Louisville Mega Cavern will be transformed into an underground light spectacular for the holiday season. Parents are invited to load up the kids and enjoy a 30-40 minute ride through 17 miles of underground passageways, which will feature over 800 lit characters with over 2,000,000 points of light. It's the only underground light show of its kind on the planet!

Mega Cavern zip line tours and historic tours are also available during this time. While on the historic tour, participants will learn how the cavern was a former limestone pit mine housing the largest civil defense shelter in Kentucky, with provisions for 50,000 people to live underground for an extended period of time. The zip line is the only underground zip line adventure tour in the world. For a really unique holiday experience, however, the Mega Cavern Lights Under Louisville event is the way to go.

Mega Cavern's Lights Under Louisville allows the public to drive their own vehicle inside the cavern to experience a unique holiday transformation. It's a great way to get the family in the mood for the holidays, and also offers a chance for educational opportunities. From mid-November to the end of the year, show hours are Monday Friday 6 pm to 10 pm, Saturday & Sunday 5 pm to 10 pm.
