ANALYSIS
Generally, when approaching the accessibility of a city, we can identify 2 different scales : •Street scale > details and maintenance •City scale > strategic interventions
LOTUS Sète Workshop – 25th April to 6th May 2011
ANALYSIS : STREET SCALE • Analyse streets typology, pavements and furniture : the aim is to reduce traffic density in historical center, giving priority to pedestrian. Strategies of urban design, typology and location of the urban furniture will be use to guarantee the security for all citizens.
LOTUS Sète Workshop – 25th April to 6th May 2011
ANALYSIS : CITY SCALE •Develop a Slope and Pavement map of all the streets and squares : the aim is to detect those inaccessible points where it is necessary to eliminate basic architectonical barriers and/or design strategic interventions. •Detect the main Public Buildings : the aim is to ensure equal access to all the public areas, avoiding alternative and segregated paths if possible. •Develop a model of the site (buildings, topography) : one model shared by all the groups GIRONA / LOCUS 2008 LOTUS Sète Workshop – 25th April to 6th May 2011
URBAN CONCEPT
•Study main touristic and inhabitants paths in order to identify the inaccessible areas and the strategical intervention points •Identify strategic access points in the higher level to facilitate downhill routes. •Provide parking areas and public transportation stops in strategic access points and in the ending points of the route to etablish a permanent mobility connexion. •Technical systems: The use of the different mechanical systems for the transport of persons (lifts, elevators, mechanical ramps…) has to be decided by every working team
