LOCAL NEWS Working with Cllr. Gerry Ashe Ringsend, Irishtown & Stella Gardens

FLOOD WALL CONCERNS The recent winter storms and tidal surge showed the importance of the Dodder flood walls. During the high tide water started leaking through a section of the wall and pavement. We brought this to the immediate attention of the Council and sand bags were deployed. I know this was an anxious time for residents. Cllr Gerry Ashe tabled an emergency motion at the last City Council meeting and I raised it in the Dáil Kevin & Cllr Gerry Ashe on Fitzwilliam Quay beside with the Minister for the Stella Gardens OPW Brian Hayes. Investigations are underway, and we will be asking that any repair work that is needed is carried out as a matter of urgency. If you have any concerns please don’t hesitate to contact myself or Cllr. Gerry Ashe on gerry.ashe@dublincity.ie or 087 295 9571.

Winter 2014

EXPANSION OF DUBLIN BIKES UNDERWAY The first of 58 new Dublin bikes stations opened recently beside the Convention Centre and more opened during December in our area on Fenian St, Kevin at the recent launch of a new Mount St lower Dublin Bikes station & Grattan St. New stations are also planned in our area with three for Grand Canal Dock, along with rental spaces on Barrow St & South Dock Street. I was delighted to work with the Labour group on Dublin City Council, of which Cllr. Gerry Ashe is a member, to introduce this hugely successful scheme, while Labour in Government secured €5.2 million from the National Transport Authority towards this work. By next summer there will be over 100 stations, and 1,500 bikes for users. Further information is available on my website www.kevinhumphreys.ie under the tag ‘Dublin Bikes’

HIRING OF GARDAÍ UNDERWAY – SOUTH EAST AREA JPC Recruitment is now underway for between 250 & 300 new Gardaí for the first time in many years. See public jobs.ie for more info. This is welcome news, and a further sign of how we are moving Ireland out of the bailout and the moratorium on public sector recruitment. Of benefit to the Ringsend/South Lotts area is the news that two community Gardaí will be on patrol in 2014 while the number of staff in the Garda Vetting Unit has been doubled. Both Kevin and Cllr Gerry Ashe are members of the South East Area Joint Policing Committee (JPC) and if you have any concerns about crime or policing in general please let us know as we can raise these directly with local officers. I recently posted up some crime prevention tips on my facebook page – keep an eye on it for further local news and updates.
