BALLEALLY LANDFILL Divines Cottage will be turned into a new community facility

ROAD MARKING AND REPAINTING Fingal Council will be repainting the white lines at the Green, Hands Lane and adjacent to Corduff national school.

Balleally Landfill has recently been closed to the public. What has always been negative for the town will now be turned into a positive facility for the community as it is the Councils intention to roll out plans for a recreational facility in the near future.

New Community College for Lusk Pedestrian Linkage

Since the last election I have had the opportunity to meet most of you on a one to one level. Most of you who are conscious of the appropriate development of the town I believe appreciate the level of hard work and commitment I have given to secure the necessary services for your community. As you recall prior to the last election I made no promises only that I would do my very best. However, I did indicate if elected I had priorities.

RESURFACING TENNIS COURTS – ORLYNN PARK

What the papers say New Community facility

This work will be happening in the near future. The Council will be incorporating into the open space in Orlynn Park the derelict land between the remount estate and the forge.

NEW PEDESTRIAN LIGHTS Following a site meeting with Cllr. Farrell Council officials and parents in Educate Together the Council made an application to the Department for funding of Pedestrian lights at the crossing for the pupils in Educate Together. The Council has recently informed Councillor Farrell that the Department has granted the necessary funding for such works.

• Completion of a pedestrian linkage in the town • The council take on Dwyer Nolan with regards to the Minister Road • A new community sports facility would be secured

After many years of denial by the developer that he was liable to complete the works in Dun Emer and Ministers Road Cllr Farrell forced Fingal County Council to bring the developer to court to prove he was liable for the works. Fingal County Council won the case and the developer was directed to hand over a substantial sum to FCC to complete the agreed works on Ministers Road and Dun Emer Road which now links up Dun Emer with the rest of the town and makes its safer for children and adults to walk this part of the town.

Most of these works have been completed and money has been secured for all the other projects. I am currently working on other issues which will benefit our town and I will work hard to ensure these works are carried out. I continue to work with all our local organisations and community groups and this approach has proved to be beneficial for all concerned.

Traffic Management Scheme

Super Sewerage Plant

€275,000 has been allocated by the Council to introduce a traffic calming measure for the town of Lusk. The purpose of this scheme is to stop the cars travelling to and from Skerries using the town as a rat run.

The decision on the location of the sewerage plant will be made in June. The residents of Lusk have spoken and I hope and expect that Fingal County Council will not locate the super sewerage plant anywhere near Lusk

What the papers say As Chairperson of the interim new community college in Lusk I am delighted that the college will be opening its doors for the first time on September. Most people are aware that while holding the position of Mayor of Fingal I was able to get the Council to offer the land for post primary education in Lusk to the Department of Education who responded positively to a site that had the relevant services available. Although the community college was granted the patronage the VEC offered two places on the board of management to educate together which have been accepted. The new board reflects the opinion of all the community. It will be a great day for lusk when the first students enter the school in September.

Pedestrian Linkage One of my priorities has been to ensure that we would have pedestrian linkage to and around the town with new footpaths been erected around the town. These include • From the Dublin Road towards the Raven roundabout, • From Orlynn Park to the relief road, • From Dun Emer estate linking up with the Minister Road footpath, • Major improvements in the pathway from The Commons into the town. The last part of the works is a linkage from remount estate and a new footpath to be placed on Hands Lane which will happen early in the New Year. This gives ease of pedestrian access to all areas of the town.

Ken at Murrays corner These works include Traffic lights at the junction of Murray’s corner and other works such as a footpath at Murrays gable end and a one way traffic light system at that junction. Other works will include the changing of sight lines in the vicinity. This will have the effect of making the town much safer and environmentally friendly for pedestrians as traffic volumes will be reduced dramatically. These works have commenced recently and should be completed in the next couple of months.

New Community Sports facility I have worked hard over the last year including meetings with the County Manager to deliver a new community sports facility for Lusk. The Council has now allocated €936,000 for the erection of a community sports facility for Lusk under the integrated facility program with the Department of Education. This facility which will be built in the near future adjacent to the new junior and senior national school adjacent to the grounds of the existing national school. This site is well located and is within easy access for all the people in our community.

Who is actually representing you? It is a privilege to represent the people of lusk and to be able to deliver on issues for my home town. Following a North County Leader survey ll Cllr Ken Farre e th as t ou came . top performer
