With youth unemployment at over 30% in Ireland, and as high as 50% in some EU countries, Europe’s recovery is being hindered with so many young people out of work. The damage that long-term unemployment can cause a young person is severe. It has the potential to have implications for the rest of a working life. To turn this around, Labour Youth have joined with Labour Party ministers, MEPs and TDs and our sister organisations in the Party of European Socialists in campaigning to introduce a Youth Guarantee in Ireland and across the European Union. This would offer every person under 25 who is out of work or education for over 4 months either:
Young people have had enough We need a Youth Guarantee for Europe, NOW!
• Paid employment • A training or education placement through Springboard or SOLAS

• An internship place through the Jobbridge scheme These options would help to provide unemployed young people with the skills they need to gain employment. Youth Guarantee schemes in Austria and Germany have been successful, now we need one for Ireland.
