LOCAL ARTANE HISTORY WALKING TOUR WITH PAT LIDDY Expressing pride in our local heritage is vital for the community and that is why over the last number of months we have organised local history tours throughout the constituency. Tours in Marino and Killester organised by Cllr. Jane Horgan-Jones, have been attended by hundreds of people and have helped to promote a sense of local pride particularly among newer residents and younger people. We are delighted that Dublin City Council has arranged a historical walking tour of the Artane area with well-known Dublin historian Pat Liddy. The tour is due to take place on Tuesday, February 25th. Please contact our office for further details. We hope to see you there.

COLLINSWOOD COMMUNITY POLICING FORUM

WORKING WITH ARTANE-BEAUMONT FC FOR IMPROVED FACILITIES

Since 2009 the Collinswood Community Policing Forum has been working to pro-actively address local policing concerns through a partnership between residents, Gardaí, Dublin City Council and local representatives.

We have been working closely with Artane-Beaumont Football Club on proposals to redevelop the derelict site in Rockfield Park.

The forum is open to all residents in the Collinswood area and the next meeting will take place on:

The derelict tennis courts at Rockfield Park have being lying idle for too long. Dublin City Council are actively engaging with Cllr. Jane Horgan-Jones and club officials with a view to improving the facility and making it available for use to the wider community. Consultation with key stakeholders will be important to any redevelopment plans for the site and we look forward to driving this process forward over the coming months.

BEAUMONT HOSPITAL RESIDENTS FORUM The relationship between Beaumont Hospital authorities and the local community has deteriorated in recent months with a number of key developments taking place without adequate consultation with residents. As a result of this, local Labour representatives facilitated the establishment of a Beaumont Hospital Residents Forum to discuss issues of common concern for those who live adjacent to the hospital. After a number of initial meetings chaired by Aodhán Ó Ríordáin TD the forum has been handed to the full ownership and control of local residents and public representatives from all political parties are invited to attend. This is in keeping with the Labour Party’s philosophy of helping communities to help themselves. Many of the issues raised concern residents living in Beaumont Woods, ArdmoreMontrose and Kilmore West. However we are anxious that other communities affected by hosptial management issues feel able to get involved. Please feel free to contact our office if you have an interest in attending the next Beaumont Hospital Forum Meeting.

CELEBRATING GAA SUCCESS WITH ST JOHN OF GOD’S GNS, ARTANE

LABOUR-LED DUBLIN CITY COUNCIL PROTECT DUBLIN’S VULNERABLE

Myself and Cllr Jane Horgan-Jones were privileged to host a reception in the Mansion House for St. John of God’s GNS Gaelic Football team who won their Cumann na mBunscol championship in Croke Park last year.

Last January the City Manager presented Councillors with a proposed Budget that would have cut Homeless Services by €5.8 million, cut housing adaptation grants by €3 million and increased Social Housing Rents.

The team from St. John of God’s GNS, along with teams from St Brigid’s GNS Killester and Belgrove GNS Clontarf, were honored on the night. It is particularly important to Cllr. Jane Horgan-Jones that the sporting Aodhán, Jane and Lord Mayor welcome St. John of Gods GNS to the Mansion House achievements by these remarkable young women are recognised. We would like to thank the teachers and parents of the students for giving so much of their time and effort into training the teams.

MARINO TEACHER ACCESS PROGRAMME The Marino Teacher Access Programme was established by Aodhán Ó Ríordáin TD to provide an access route for young Northside students into primary school teaching. A number of local schools are involved in the initiative which provides Irish language tuition to students interested in pursuing a career in teaching but who otherwise may have found the Irish language requirement challenging.

The Labour Group on the council made it very clear that this was not an acceptable proposal. Our 18 Councillors stood together in opposition and ensured that it did not pass. Cllr Jane Horgan-Jones was part of the negotiation team that fought with determination to present the best budget for the city which: ■

Made an additional €400,000 available for homeless services

Froze rents for Local Authority housing

Increased funding for disabled person's grants from €9.4 million in 2013 to €9.6 million in 2014.

Cut commercial rates for businesses by 0.4%

Our track record at local government has always been honourable. No Labour Councillor on any Council in Ireland was ever accused of inappropriate behaviour surrounding planning and rezoning. Labour don’t do tribunal politics.

The Programme is supported by Northside Partnership and Marino Institute of Education and it is hoped that it will be rolled out further in the coming years.
