LINDA CHILDEARS PRESENTED BY EON OFFICE & NAVAJO MANUFACTURING INC. Each year at the Goodwill Power of Work Luncheon, it is our honor to recognize an influential leader who is making our community a better place to live and work. This year we honor Linda Childears, President & CEO of the Daniels Fund. For nearly twelve years, Linda Childears’ leadership at the Daniels Fund has reflected her strong dedication to honoring Bill Daniels’ philanthropic intent. The late cable television pioneer, Bill Daniels, established the Daniels Fund to make life better for the people of Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming through its grants, scholarship, and ethics programs. Linda’s dedication to community service goes above and beyond her role at the Daniels Fund. Having served on dozens of nonprofit boards including the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce, Denver Police Foundation, and Mountain States Employers Council, Linda’s commitment to civic engagement is testimony to her passion for improving our community. Named one of the 25 Most Powerful Women by the Colorado Women’s Chamber in 2014, Linda also received the Del Hock Lifetime Achievement Award from the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce in 2016. In her service to Colorado and beyond, Linda is one of the most influential leaders in the Rocky Mountain region. Thank you, Linda, for all you’ve done for our community!

MARIA MU BRIGHT FUTURE AWARD

Sponsored by Syntrinsic Investment Counsel Maria is a recent graduate from South High School and now attends Community College of Denver thanks to scholarships she obtained with help from Goodwill and the African Community Center. Maria is a refugee from Thailand and first came to Goodwill through its Newcomers program in 2012. Before traveling to America, Maria had only left her refugee camp a few times in her life. She not only had to overcome a language barrier, but also had to adapt to American culture. Goodwill’s Ruthann Kallenberg played a major role in making sure Maria had everything she needed to successfully apply for college and scholarships.

VASHAWN PEARSON INSPIRATION AWARD

Sponsored by Sage Hospitality Vashawn Pearson works as a member of Goodwill’s store enclave. Each and every day he overcomes a significant delay in speech and always steps up to help other members of his team. Despite his barriers, he maintains his independence and lives on his own. He’s been working with Goodwill since 2012 and always has a positive attitude and a kindness that radiates to those around him.

SYLVIA JOHNSON FAMILY STRENGTHENING AWARD

Sponsored by Woodruff Sawyer Currently a recruiting coordinator in Goodwill’s Human Resources Department, Sylvia Johnson is a true inspiration to everyone she encounters. Sylvia has overcome hardships including homelessness and abuse, all while juggling the demands of being a single mother. With a smile that radiates every room, contagious positivity, and unyielding determination; nothing can bring this strong and courageous woman down.

BRANDON MADRID OPPORTUNITY AWARD

Sponsored by EKS&H Brandon is a graduate of Goodwill’s first BankWork$ class. Before connecting with Goodwill, Brandon struggled to make ends meet and pay off medical bills, by working jobs in the construction and landscaping industries. Having to undergo kidney dialysis three times a week, these manual labor jobs started to wear him out physically. After completing the BankWork$ program, Brandon was hired by Wells Fargo as a bank teller. He is thrilled to be financially stable and looks forward to his future.
