Our Night Life

On clear nights, the skies above the Lac La Biche Region come to life. Here you have a frontrow seat for stargazing and viewing the Northern Lights.

Even for locals born and raised in the area, the sight of the Northern Lights never gets old. You, too, will be amazed by the otherworldly banners of green and purple rippling across the sky. For the best chance of witnessing this beautiful phenomenon, visit in the late fall or winter when daylight hours are shorter. Use free Northern Lights-tracking apps like My Aurora Forecast to help plan your viewing experience.

DARK SKY PRESERVE

Lakeland Provincial Park & Provincial Recreation Area together form an official Dark Sky Preserve, which means they’re totally free of light pollution. The preserve is only a 30-minute drive east of Lac La Biche, offering fantastic opportunities to see constellations, meteor showers, the Milky Way and more in all their glory. Join Alberta Parks for the annual Lakeland Dark Sky Celebration in September!
