HEALTH AND WELLNESS

OUR FRIENDS THE MICROBES Bacteria. Virus. Fungi. Protozoa. Microbiome. Microbiota. Microbial genes and human genes.

F

or more than two years, we have been living in fear of something we cannot even see… the SARS-Covid or Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome-Coronavirus. That is a very elegant name for a little tiny living entity that is measured in nano-meters - or in other terms that is 100’000 times smaller than a strand of hair. A virus is simply a part of a microscopic world where trillions of trillions living beings evolve, live, survive, do good deeds, bad deeds and die, just like in our humanly world. This is the world of microbes where species of bacteria, viruses, fungi, protozoa live in more or less harmony. It is true that we cannot see them but we can ‘visualize’ them only through special powerful instruments like normal or electron microscopes and their effect on human’s life is beyond our imagination. In order to re-balance the fear of these invisible beings, let me bring you to visit the mighty world of microbes that intermingle with our human living cells. Are you ready? What do you know about microbes? They are invisible tiny living things that are found all around us and are too small to be seen by the naked eyes. They live in water, soil, in the air and within living beings like plants, animals and humans. Some microbes make us sick. They give us infections. There is strong evidence that microbes also contribute to many non-infectious chronic diseases such as some forms of cancer and coronary heart disease. Different

Dr Nongnush Ammoury (Pharmacist Researcher)

diseases are caused by different types of microbes that are called pathogens. That is how most of us learn about microbes, right? We learn they cause us diseases and we become so cautious about not letting any microbes invade us and avoid all contacts with them. That is also how I learned about microbes a few years back at the pharmacy school in the Microbiology course. I must admit it now: this knowledge has become outdated and belongs now to the old school. In 2008, the Human Microbiome Project (or HMP) was launched and has become the main focus of collaborative international research projects that seek to better understand the role of these tiny living organisms that are all around us and most importantly that live with us, in our body, intimately cohabitating with our human cells, in peace and in symbiosis (we count on them and they count on us to stay alive and healthy).

LINBIZ GLOBAL | PAGE 16

HEALTH AND WELLNESS

THE BIG SURPRISE…

The human body is composed of approximately 30 trillions human cells. Do you know the microbes that live within us out-number our human cells by 10 fold. This means our 30 trillions human cells cohabitate with approximately 300 trillions micro-organisms of all kinds. It includes at least 10’000 different species of known bacteria with more than 3 million genes (150 times more than the human genes). The whole ecosystem of microorganisms and their genes is called “Microbiome”. Sometime, you may hear a different term, “Microbiota” that rather designates different species of microorganisms.

almost all micro-organismal genes in healthy adults.

One third of our gut microbiota is common to most people (it can weigh up to 2 kg in total), while two thirds are specific to each one of us. In other words, the microbiota in your intestine is like your identity card. There are no two persons who have identical microbiota. HMP researchers say they have identified

When a baby passes through the mother birth canal, it receives the first set of microbiome that starts to colonize the skin, nose, lungs, and principally its digestive tract. The quality of the baby’s microbiome depends directly on its diet during the first few days of life (breast milk or powder milk), the quality of the water and the surrounding air. By 3 years old, the infant will have acquired a stable microbiome of an adult, that will continue to change and evolve through out its life. LINBIZ GLOBAL | PAGE 17

Microbiome is our quality of life Humans don’t have all the enzymes needed to digest food. Microbes living naturally in the gut break down many of the food, proteins, lipids and carbohydrates in our diet into smaller particles of nutrients that we can then absorb and benefit from. Moreover, the microbes produce additional beneficial compounds, like vitamins and natural antiinflammatory substances that our own cells cannot produce. Antiinflammatory compounds produced by the microbiome also play a major role at regulating the immune system’s response to different diseases.

HEALTH AND WELLNESS

The quality of our microbiome or more precisely, the lack of its quality or its imbalance (dysbiosis) is the major influencing factor in the development of metabolic diseases such as diabetes, obesity, auto-immune diseases as well as for a poor mental health. Today we are at the dawn of discovering new knowledge about how important and indispensable the microbiome is for human health and well-being. As a consequence, we have all to benefit from learning more about how to take good care of our friendly and closest ecosystem that is our microbiome.

LINBIZ GLOBAL | PAGE 18

HEALTH AND WELLNESS

How can we maintain a healthy and happy microbiome? If you want your microbes to contribute beneficially to your health and wellness, you need to make sure you have more good bacteria than bad ones. Varieties of fermented foods are rich in good bacteria e.g. yogurt, cheese, sauerkraut, kimchi, miso, fermented fish paste and much more. Almost every culinary art describes fermented food and use them in common daily meals. We call foods that are rich in good bacteria, “probiotics” as they are ‘pro’ or supporting life. The most well known of good bacteria are from lactobacillus and bifidobacterium families. Consuming regularly clean fermented foods will enrich your gut microbiome and support healthy digestion, good mental health and strengthen immune defense. At some occasions like after antibiotic treatment or long diseases, your gut may be depleted from good bacteria and you may need to enrich it by supplementing it with probiotics. When purchasing probiotics in the market, watch out for the variety of bacteria species and the CFU or its concentration (Colony-Forming-Unit). Good bacteria feed on foods that are rich in fibers. Therefore, when consuming probiotics, it is recommended to eat more vegetables such as spinach, cabbage, beans. Foods that are capable of nourishing good bacteria are called “prebiotics”. Specific prebiotic supplements can offer selected fibers that maintain and protect your microbiome. In summary, microbes are natural invisible entities that live with us humans, collaborate intimately with our human cells and contribute positively to our human’s health. We need to enhance the quality of our gut microbiome that help us fight against other infectious agents and support our digestion in breaking down food and producing vitamins that are essentials to our good health and wellness. PROFESSIONALIZING

THE FAMILY

BUSINESS By Vikram Bhalla and Christian Orglmeister

In this edition, we are discussing “Professionalizing the Family Business”.

A

ccording to Wikipedia, a family business is a commercial organization in which decisionmaking is influenced by multiple generations of a family, related by blood or marriage or adoption, Professionalization has been defined as a social who has both the ability to influence the vision of process by which any trade or profession changes the business and the willingness to use this ability itself into a genuine profession of the most striking to pursue distinctive goals. uprightness and competence. Professionalizing a family business entails the adoption of the structures, Family businesses are usually based on a value governance, systems, and processes of a modern system that is mutually subscribed to by all the corporation. For every founder of a family business, members of the family across generations and there comes a time when the founder is at a crossroad which is also the factor responsible for its many – on one hand, there is the intention to keep things in achievements and impacts. the family and on the other, there is also the need to scale the business. When that happens, experts have Statistics have shown that the total economic always advised that professionalizing the business is impact of family businesses to global GDP is over the solution. Contrary to the understandable phobia 70%. Family businesses are the most frequently that professionalizing the family business removes encountered ownership model in the world and the family from its role in the business, this position their impact on the global economy is tremendous. is not true as professionalizing the business only seeks For example, family businesses in Europe create to augment the family’s unique attributes with the over 5 million jobs representing 40 to 50% of features of a modern business organization. Europe’s overall employment (KPMG, 2013). Also, Most of the Middle East’s GDP, more than 80% of There are, however, some factors to be considered businesses, even outside those in the oil sector, are before professionalizing the family, namely: either family controlled or family-run (PWC, 2012). Despite these tremendous economic impacts, statistics have also shown that merely 30% of family businesses make it to the 2nd generation and perhaps a smaller percentage make it to the 3rd. Usually, family conflicts are the spur of this disappointing fact. However, another factor may come into play - lack of professionalization of the business.

1. Identifying the distinctive values and attributes of the family business. The values of family businesses are their unique identities and signatures which is the foundational pillar and the essence of the business in the first place. They are the very first products of the businesses, hence, they must be holistically identified and protected. This can be achieved by facilitating the articulation of the intentions of all stakeholders in the family, across LINBIZ GLOBAL | PAGE 21

generations. This would prevent the manifestation of conflicting values in the operations of the business which may be detrimental the growth and overall success of the business. 2. Knowing When to Professionalize In the formative years of a family business, the challenges it is faced with are mainly external and market challenges – getting access to capital, defining the right strategy, and gaining a competitive advantage. Like a child, its priority is to survive and gain balance. At this stage, a Founder (the Patriarch) drives the business with extraordinary passion and insight. But growth comes at a cost. As the business grows and scales, it becomes increasingly hard for the Patriarch to manage it effectively, hence, the need to professionalize the business arises.

LEGALITIES IN BUSINESS

Professionalizing often associated with moving a business to the next level. A Founder of a family business should consider professionalizing in the following circumstances: » When the business is experiencing rapid growth » When a co-investor or partner comes on board. » When the family business re-structures, especially when it becomes a big corporation e.g., a public limited company; » When external managers are recruited in the business; » When there is a hand-over from the Founder to a next generation family member. How to professionalize a family business Professionalization is about strengthening a family business rather than turning it into something overly complicated which doesn’t suit the family’s objectives. Some of the key points on how you can achieve professionalization within your family business, include the following: »

»

Define the role of the family in the Business To professionalize a family business, members of the family must, first, clarify their vision for the future of the business and for themselves. Then, they must define each generation’s specific role in the business as well as their individual roles. This is very essential to achieving their objectives. Establish a Governance Mechanism for the Family Business Instituting a proper governance structure for the business is also a strategic measure towards professionalizing the business. All the managements components of the business must be strengthened – the family must decide on LINBIZ GLOBAL | PAGE 22

how it will be governed and how it will manage its relationship with the business; the Owners council/assembly as well as Family council/ assembly depending on the size of the owners and family members should be set-up and operational. The roles of these organs must be clearly defined, while the Board of Directors must be created and fortified with, perhaps, a non-family member who can provide valuable insights and support decision making. Many countries have statutory and regulatory requirements relating to the governance of the Board of Directors; therefore, family businesses should strive to comply with these requirements. »

Develop and Document Business Policies and Procedures for all Processes Founders of family businesses may consider drafting a document that contains a set of rules and policies for the smooth operation and management of the Family, e.g., a Family Business Constitution.

Merits of professionalising a family business ◊ The benefits of professionalizing the family business are unexhaustive and they include the following: ◊ Ÿ it ensures better governance structure for the family business. ◊ Ÿ It promotes comprehensive financial management of the business. ◊ Ÿ It ensures adequate research which facilitate a wider range of products and services or the business. ◊ Ÿ It assures the alignment of the values and aspirations of all members of the family while ensuring that the family business scales. ◊ Ÿ It promotes efficient and effective service delivery system of the business ◊ Ÿ It aids better branding and greater brand awareness for the business, and finally, ◊ Ÿ It increases the efficiency, profitability and, ultimately, the overreaching growth of the family business. ◊ Conclusion At some point in the life cycle of every successful family business, it becomes imperative to professionalize. This can mean a period of instability for both the family and the business enterprise. . Sailing through the turbulence requires careful planning and implementation on the path of the

family. THE PROFESSIONAL WOMAN

SELF-SABOTAGE IN THE WORKPLACE AND LIFE. CATHERINE MOLLOY

(Keynote Speaker & Communication Expert) I wasn’t always a successful businesswoman flying around the world, giving presentations to CEO entrepreneurs and team leaders (on mastering communication and body language for success), training and education sessions and mentoring billionaires. I was a mum, a corporate businesswoman, a wife, a sister, and a friend before becoming an entrepreneur and then CEO of my own company. I would love you to stop for a moment and think back to when you were a child what did you love to do? and are you doing any of these things today? I know I am! To live on purpose, we need to understand what makes us tick. What gives us joy and makes our spirit sing even in those seasons of life where things just don’t seem to be going right. In business today if we find what we enjoy and do more of it our business becomes even more successful. I’ve worked in 100s of cities around the world with thousands of women attending my talks and what I have discovered is the 6 ways we love to self-sabotage as a professional woman. And I’m going to share these with you today. I have found once we recognise what we do to sabotage ourselves in business and life we can then start to take small steps to recognise when this is happening and change the outcome.

Your story and your mindset

Good things happen to good people; bad things happen to good people. Bad things happen to bad people, and so on. It’s the way life is. Use the tough times to build strength within yourself. You might not always see it but sometimes what you didn’t want or expect can present opportunities. For example, you might develop more empathy or more patience. You might become better skilled at helping others because of something that happened in your life. When bad things happen, you will go through your grieving cycle. But you don’t have

to make it the story that you live by. We can change these stories. The Six reasons why we self-sabotage in the workplace and in life! 1. Because we don’t believe. We don’t believe in it (project /dream) completely, so we don’t do it. You need to sink your idea in your bones or you won’t feel it and act on it. The interesting thing is once we sink an idea into our bones and live and breathe it … miraculously it happens. I like to write my idea on a sticky note or get a picture of want I want and put it where ill see it every day. Truly live and breathe it until it happens! 2. We are fearful. This means we become scared to act. Some of us are fearful of failure and fearful of success. We often hold ourselves back when we think we are going into a situation that is outside our comfort zone. We must change our mindset and jump in boots and all and take the first step. Go in with confidence and courage and believe in ourselves. Whenever I have an idea I remind myself this: FEAR: Face Everything And Rise. 3. Procrastination. I’m going to do this today, but first I’ll… You know what this is like: oh, I’ll do that tomorrow but somehow tomorrow doesn’t ever really come! Or If I don’t tidy my desk now, I won’t be able to make my follow-up calls … or, I’ll just check Instagram or watch one Netflix show, ‘Stop procrastinating! Make your follow-up calls first, then clean your desk, or do socials. Just do what needs to be done and stop making excuses … Planning stops procrastination. My advice is to Write your plan out the night before - no more than three things to do, then you can execute it the next day before you start the other tasks. Boom! 4. Not willing to fail. What happens if I fail? There is no losing only learning. ‘It’s not how many times you fall down; it’s how many times you get up’. If there are twenty coffee shops in the one street, you probably won’t do well in a tough time if you set up the twentyfirst. Don’t set yourself up to fail. Instead, do the research, then jump in, and give it your best shot. When you want something and put in the hard work, LINBIZ GLOBAL | PAGE 25

guess what happens – what you focus on grows! 5. Don’t over-analyse things. Some people, especially those with the Controlling behaviour style, spend too much time over-analysing everything. Is it good enough? I need to change this in my report. I don’t think I can send it to them because of … Over-analysing can be a little like procrastination – you spend too long putting something off by asking yourself, ‘Is it ready?’ ‘Is it good enough?’ If you’ve put in a big effort and made it as good as it can be for now, then go for it. Stop over-analysing its paralysis by analysis! Let it go and see what happens. 6. Multi-tasking. Doing many things at once won’t always work. Don’t try to get everything done at the one time. Multitasking is not something to aim for, despite the good press it has received in the past. It is simply another form of selfsabotage. We can’t do everything well all at the one time. You can do everything if you plan and take it step by step; focusing on one thing at a time and giving it everything you’ve got. Once I learnt to stop self-sabotage, I was able to show others how to stop self-sabotage too. Ladies in business I encourage you to see how you selfsabotage as a professional woman and STOP doing it! Sometimes things are not as hard as we make them out to be. When you believe in yourself others believe in you too. WHY WOMEN EMPOWERMENT NEED EMPOWERED MEN Bertrand Stephen St. Louis (Host of the Podcast; “Free Talk With Mr B)

Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value. She brings him good, not harm all the days of her life. She selects wool and flax and works with eager hands. She is like the merchant ships bringing her food from afar. She gets up while it is still night, she provides food for her family and portions for her female servants. She considers a field and buys it out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.

W

omen empowerment need men for a number of reasons. To name a few; Men play a role in women empowerment. Everyone plays a role in the empowerment movement. Women never really suggested that men were excluded. The best way to Give Back to society is for us men to be empowered and to ensure that our household has that same level of empowerment starting with our spouses. To highlight these points, let’s take a moment to look at a set of written words that show one example of an empowered woman way back before the first century. The iconic words in Proverbs 31 to a King. The Proverbs 31 Woman comes from Proverbs 31, a poem written by King Lemuel based on words of advice given to him by his mother on how to conduct himself as a king. This seemingly well empowered man was listening to an empowered woman on how to look at or how to look for an empowered woman. She posed it in allegorical form by asking, “A wife of noble character, who can find? She is worth far more than rubies.” This thought of an empowered woman being Priceless was injected right away. Today we place value on very superficial things. lets dig in some more to get the viewpoint presented of this empowered woman.

To me, the role of the man was to appreciate the independent spirit that drove the success of the empowered woman. This description show the resolve that this empowered woman was securing her household and applying her business savvy wisdom as a business woman. This in itself is a definite complement to the empowered man. if anything went wrong, like an illness or worst, the household continues functioning. That women and men empowerment is a form of Giving Back to society. The strategy is to avoid the worst case scenario of becoming a burden on society. So if one part of the team is limited, the other part keeps the team functioning. She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks. She sees that her trading is profitable and her lamp does not go out at night. In her hand she holds the distaff and grasps the spindle with her fingers. She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy. When it snows, she has no fear for her household; for all of them are clothed in scarlet. She makes coverings for her bed; she is clothed in fine linen and purple. Her husband is respected at the city gate where he takes his seat among the elders of the land. She makes linen garments and sells them and supplies the merchants with sashes.

The empowered woman does not replace the role or task of the man. in fact it’s in direct reflection and inclination of the team’s goals. One mention I observed, in the above text, is the immediate results gained by the empowered man. When the empowered woman executes Her stance, the Husband increases his standing in the community. This came without impacting the movements of the empowered woman. LINBIZ GLOBAL | PAGE 32

MENS CORNER

She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom and faithful instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also and he praises her

How might her partner feel about having such an empowered woman as his partner? Smiles i conclude. As an empowered man, i have personally appreciated not having to carry life’s burden alone. After 40 years of marriage growth, i have had the benefit of learning and growing. becoming more empowered while having room to join my spouse in her empowerment. “Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.” Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting but a woman…is to be praised. Honor her for all that her hands have done and let her works bring her praises at the city gate.

I am always very proud to say that I am a product of a single mom, I began working at the age 12 and returned to college at 45 to earn my Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Management. I was not only determined to become a respectable, empowered, member of society but serve as a catalyst of hope and change to the global community whereby my wife of over 40 years can feel empowered. Having travelled to over 36 countries and influencing many lives, It has inspired me to take the speaker rout especially being an advocate for women empowerment to where I can participate in clarifying conversation. When I’m not uplifting people, you can find me dancing, cooking or singing karaoke. The empowered man’s role is to appreciate the empowered woman. To set the examples of empowerment while removing any roadblocks of its hindrance. So it’s reflective that if prior to the start of the first century, empowered men were listening to their empowered moms. Us empowered men can do the same in our 21st century. it is totally beneficial to both genders and adds to the stability of the institution of family. Empowerment aligns with the humility of both genders and both genders need not contrite support but outright support; since it is a lending hand, one to another. Some men might want their women at home in what they view as a traditional role. Yet, we have to wonder is it traditional at all. The cited text from so very long ago reminds us of the empowered woman working along side the empowered man. Both setting examples and empowering their children. I am Mr B; Host of the Podcast; “Free Talk With Mr B” Professionally known as Bertrand Stephen St. Louis Author of the Book, “The art of Giving Back” (Amazon and Kindle) Prior to becoming a Podcaster, Speaker and Inspirational Coach; I worked in the Energy Industry for over 35 years. The clients loved my clicks and it also motivated me to go ahead with more events in the future. I gained confidence and then after two months I got another event and the journey continued.

EXPERIENCE:

Till today, I have covered many wedding events, birthdays, portraits, model shoots, fashion photography, food photography and so much more. My passion has always led me to more and more success in my field. The testimonials of my clients have also given me more motivation and confidence to work for my passion. My first sponsorship has been with the Lady fusion SHE Awards. Secondly, with NousheenMukhtarInternational. Thirdly, with Dazzlelynjewels and lastly with IIMAF official. I will continue to sponsor more events in the future.

SAMAN NAWAZ I am Saman Nawaz , a passionate female photographer and young entrepreneur basically from Pakistan , born and brought up in Ras Al Khaimah , U.A.E. It has been a wonderful experience in the U.A.E as it has given individuals many opportunities to showcase their talents and skills in their prospective field. I have been very passionate about photography, sports, and creativity.

START OF MY PHOTOGRAPHY:

My photography passion started as a hobby first. I used to watch my uncle who was a personal photographer of Sheikh Khalifa in the U.A.E. I got influenced by him and thought that photography has a lot of scope. I used to capture clicks for my friends and relatives wedding events or parties captured in Auto mode. I was doing my Bachelor’s final year and also working as a full-time job. Due to COVID-19 pandemic, I lost my job and thought about what I could do to have an income? I straight away thought about Photography. I did my photography course online from Udemy and gained a lot of knowledge on how the camera works. I made my Instagram page and started posting some of the clicks. One day, in the year 2020, there was a story on Instagram where they required a female photographer for a small event at home. I didn’t hesitate and I approached them that I am ready to go ahead with it as it would be my first event.

I have also met bloggers like Mom_In_Dubai and Dina. Maimouni and covered their shoots. I have met and photograph Sheikh Rashid Al Ameri (CEO of Mai Al Dhafra), Mr. Tariz Azeemi(Advisor to the Private Office of Sheikh Ahmed Bin Faisal Al Qasimi) , Dr. Hanadie (Award-Winning Health and Wellness Leader), Mr.Andrew Stotter-Brooks (Vice President Learning and Development of Etihad Airways), Ms. Debbie (ACCOR – The Global Hospitality Group) and so many highly professional individuals. CONCLUSION:

I am really a friendly and motivated person. I love to cherish people who have just started their small businesses. I want to become a role model in the photography field as I belfive women are now getting more recognized for what they love doing. There were days when I wanted to give up but believing in myself kept me going and hustling hard. My advice to all those individuals who hesitate to do what they love –is to Believe in yourself, push yourself up, Get up if you fall, Nand ever give up, Failures are meant to make you stronger than before! If I can come this far and more to come then why not YOU. Start with what you have, even if it’s a small thing. I believe in YOU that you will reach where you want to be. Despite our failure to contain the high prevalence of obesity, we now LEPTIN AND OBESITY: have a better understanding of its pathophysiology and how excess Leptin is a protein that's made adiposity leads to diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease , in the fat cells, circulates in the bloodstream, and goes to the brain. cardiovascular diseases , infertility , and many cancers . it is the hormone that regulate the relationship between the brain Important points in understanding of obesity: 1. The primary cause of obesity is not food and not how much and and the fat tissue . Leptin is the way your fat cells tell your brain what food we are taking, the main cause is a hormonal defect. 2. Obesity is not an individual fault, and not related to weak or that your energy thermostat is set strong willed, it is a complicated disease, related to hormonal, right , this happens only in normal physiology and normal people. environmental, and genetic factors. 3. Obese people need help not just blaming them, they need as any diseased people care and support. 4. Obesity is preventable disease that can be completely cured. 5. It is like any cancer, the earlier detection and management the better outcome. 6. Long standing obesity has more dangerous effects than short history of obesity, so we need to manage it in the right way as soon as it is detected. 7. The triple fake causes of obesity are diet, sport, and strong will.

When we have enough fat tissue so leptin level is above that threshold, your brain senses that you have energy sufficiency, then the brain responds by sending orders to increase the metabolism, reduce the appetite, and decrease the absorption in the digestive system . LINBIZ GLOBAL | PAGE 37

And vice versa. The problem is that overweight people have large amounts of leptin, but their brains aren't getting the important signal to stop eating. "How come the brain doesn't get it? That phenomenon is called ‘leptin resistance. In leptin resistance, your leptin is high, which means you're fat, but your brain can't see it. In other words, your brain is starved, while your body is obese. And that's what obesity is: it's brain starvation. Lustig says

t that time, I was 22 years old when I started presenting my projects in the innovation club at some exhibitions based on my background as electronics engineer. At that time people were mentioning me that doing all of this will waste my time and I have to focus on my career life instead. I was one of the luckiest students were I given the chance to be one of the five students to be chosen regards initiating innovation club in the history of our university for first time. Being part of that club , I was able to present the club projects in different cities. My colleagues were very interested in the way that I kept presenting my assigned section of each project. Under the club name at certain level of that exposure and interaction, they were extremely proud and happy to give me the chance to present them while displaying the club projects. Going through all of that, tickled my heart!. We can call it “passion”. Each time I felt that I want more and more, it encouraged me to jump into the next step and accept that I was given the life time chance in presenting the projects on the stage by my own. I believed in my self, I started in developing my skills and learning from my mistakes as well, asking for feedbacks allowed me to focus on my strengths, and The most important thing was accepting random roles for different opportunities, up to date were I was selected by the university vice principal to be MC (master of ceremony).

I never thought I was capable of being a person who can stand in front of large number of people, seeing the audience and noticing that doing all of that such as spreading positivity among them gave me the feeling that this is what exactly I want to do in the coming years. People was thinking that time I am around 27 years old based on my characteristic and the way I talk. But I never told them my age that time. Now I had my bachelor degree in electronics engineer, but it’s not enough for me, I like the sentence “let’s learn more”, so I decided to do something unique that it was rarely find a local did it, so I studied hospitality major, I know what LINBIZ GLOBAL | PAGE 39

LINBIZ: What type of training do you have?

COVER PAGE

I have years of formal training in academia and a multitude of degrees and certificates including a master’s degree in school leadership, which came with a lot of course work around understanding philosophes and the psychological aspects of people as well as a doctorate degree in Christian counseling. I am also, a certified NLP coach. These combined with years of lived experience have allowed me to be able to fully engulf and work well with others by helping them reach their goals. LINBIZ: How did you get started? I started as an educator. I'm an elementary educator, at my core. Early in my teaching career, I learned that if a child has your trust, even if they are struggling with a concept or feel defeated, they will give it their best shot. It required a lot of coaching and a lot of encouragement, to promote that positive change in children. As I moved up in my career and became a school administrator, I carried that practice with me. We're all human, we all want encouragement, we all want cheers, and we all want to be able to see ourselves as part of the whole collective. Even as individuals, we still want a sense of belonging, so I use that in my skillset. I feel like I've been coaching for a very long time and just took “the leap”, as I say, and started doing it on my own. I got started because I saw that there was a need. I started taking classes and took this as an opportunity to grow in that area. It was an added benefit when I realized that it was something that I enjoyed. So, that's how I got started I just kind of took the leap. I created a vision and chased it. LINBIZ: Was the certification necessary to get started? I am sure there is not a one-sized fit all approach for certification as there are a lot of coaches out there, and many of them do not hold certifications. I chose to get certified along with my doctorate degree to be more effective to my clientele. The NLP certification was a great option for me. I chose the NLP because it was a notable, accredited program that aligned with the work that I was doing. It also complimented my doctoral degree.

The wonderful thing about this is I do not have to do that. I am in a unique place in my life, that doesn't require much juggling. My children have grown into independent responsible adults, and do not need me as much. My daughter is a college professor, and my son is a family man. They are both busy, flourishing in their lives, so I am left with a lot of time to focus on myself, my clients, and my businesses. If I'm being honest, when my children were little, I would never have jumped out and started a business the way I did because I know that they needed to eat and I had an obligation and responsibility to them, so that's what has actually allowed me to be able to do what I am doing now. It is the fact that my children are grown and my family is back home in the US, and my mother is being taken care of, that allows me to focus more on getting this business started at this time.

LINBIZ: What is your favorite part about being a coach?

COVER PAGE

My favorite part of being a coach is helping people. It’s allowing g people to see things through different lenses. It’s helping people see their breakthrough and know they can move forward and can achieve all their goals and aspirations. LINBIZ: What advice would you share with someone who wants to become a life coach? My advice to anyone who wants to be a coach of any sort is to get some training. I know there are a lot of avenues or shortcuts to becoming a coach, but I would highly recommend going for training. Training provides a better understanding of how and what you are doing. It gives you multiple sets of tools in your toolbox to equip you to work with different people. I would also encourage others to make sure that they know themselves. It is important to know who you are, how you can assist people, and who you can assist. The field is vast and there are a lot of different people that require a specific level of support. You need to know yourself and your capabilities before agreeing to take them on.

How to Write a Perfect

BUSINESS PLAN IN 9 STEPS By Adeshola Helen Onadipe

WHAT IS A BUSINESS PLAN?

A business plan is a document describing a business, its products or services, how it earns (or will earn) money, its leadership and staffing, its financing, its operations model, and many other details essential to its success. A great business plan can help you clarify your strategy, identify potential roadblocks, decide what you’ll need in the way of resources, and evaluate the viability of your idea or your growth plans before you start a business. Not every successful business launches with a formal business plan, but many founders find value in taking time to step back, research their idea and the market they’re looking to enter, and understand the scope and the strategy behind their tactics. That’s where writing a business plan comes in.

WHY WRITE A BUSINESS PLAN?

BUSINESS PLAN FORMATS

Business plans can span from one page to multiple pages with detailed graphs and reports. There’s no one way to create a business plan. The goal is to convey the most important information about your company for readers. Common types of business plans we see include, but are not limited to, the following: •

Traditional. These are the most common business plans. Below, we’ll cover the standard elements of a business plan and go into detail for each section. Traditional business plans take longer to write and can be dozens of pages long. Venture capitalist firms and lenders ask for this plan. Lean. A lean business plan is a shorter version of a traditional business plan. It follows the same format, but only includes the most important information. Businesses use this plan to onboard new hires or modify existing plans for a specific target market. Nonprofit. A nonprofit business plan is for any entity that operates for public or social benefit. It covers everything you’ll find in a traditional business plan, plus a section describing the impact the company plans to make. For example, a speaker and headphone brand that aims to help people with hearing disabilities. Donors often request this plan. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9.

SPIRITUALITY

GOD ARE YOU THERE?

G

By Glorianne Montefrio

rowing up in a decent living religious family, I always believed that GOD is just in the corner. Being exhibited with altars and crucifixes all over the place and prayed daily. Always being entertained and pampered by both parents and doing their best to provide for our needs. I have a great life where my Spirit is filled with GOD’s word and always being guided in the right direction through a loving family that celebrates Christmas yearly altogether with happy childhood of observing feast and thanksgiving while going to church every Sunday.

I became better in my previoour company where I am the only Filipina among a team of 12 where I worked so hard and proved that I can always be better in my field until I was promoted and further moved to a semi-government company after my 1st contract in UAE. In that company, my confidence became greater as I was promoted 3x as I always excel in my role. But my body felt the weight of burnout as I forfeited my 2 years of leave due to the demand of my work and working for 4 bosses of course in the beginning I was proud until I lost my power to retain my dad A respectful daughter with a strong belief in celibacy passed away then I lost my dog and my husband and observing all the commandments of parents and left the country for good and after more than a church. Doing a great job in a school with high grades decade of real hard work of service, I was being and honour with special awards. redundant. Seem to have a perfect childhood, until a crisis came where both parents lost their jobs, were evicted from the apartment, then bullying in school and friends follows and worst to study without money to pay for tuition. Therefore, I have to work at an early stage to pay for my school fees and at the same time study while looking after my other younger siblings. It was fun at the beginning to be able to provide for the family but I admit I struggle to understand my lessons at school due to a lack of sleep and rest but left with no choice. I once then felt that I did not enjoy my childhood due to my younger responsibility to become an adult for the family. Which I have not regretted because I have learned to become a greater leader since then. This became my norm growing up to always be there for others until I graduated and flew to Dubai, UAE in January 2004. I was once on a visit visa until I realized that summer here is totally like a sauna, I was stunned to feel the heat during summer so I decided that there is no turning back I have a big dream for my family.

My Spirit was crushed, as I felt that everything went from highest to lowest. I thought I could only rest for a maximum of 3 months until I can find another job but the pandemic hit me tremendously but am glad I have friends who helped me survive and thrive. For the last 3 years, I struggled to find my peace of mind, myself until I realized that as I have always been there for others, I never prioritized myself… my health and my self. During these 3 years, I was grateful, I learned so much about myself that life is full of surprises that those you thought would be fighting for you will never leave you and this became severe when I have me and my husband has decided to nullify our marriage as I can no longer see myself happy anymore. This became an evidence that GOD is calling me to a deper, action. That I have to first love myself as I neglected my being and lost His connection as I no longer pray. LINBIZ GLOBAL | PAGE 53

Until one day, I realized God’s existence through these sufferings, HE is there in our pains, loss, hurts, this rejection and unacceptance from others. I never thought I will felt what He has gone through but my experience of being cheated on lied on, abused and used and even harassed was a manifestation that a real believer is when you accept your fate and still you will forgive those who did wrong to you.

SPIRITUALITY

I have encountered this knowing I have a childhood trauma of begging for love and attention because I always freely give this growing up. Until one day, I faced my biggest regret to tell my mom that I hated her for being not there for me as I was harassed several times secretly then I revealed to her as she was never had time for me and that cycle was repeated when I was never there for myself. But this moment was quite dramatic but we have both forgiven our expectations and unmet needs as she explained that they have to do what they got to do as parents of a big family. My expectation was so high that my mom has to truly understand what I needed. This trauma has gone seriously to always protect others but only to find that I am that somebody for me as I thought no one is there for me ever since but my mom added that if we will be together again she will ensure that she will be able to show it to me.. Sometimes, things have to go very wrong before they can be so right. I went through chronic depression, anxiety and childhood trauma as I had encountered covid twice and focused on what I lost in life but as the weeks goes by, I truly understand why I beg for love and attention from others whereas the love language that I was looking for is just available within me that I have to let myself be free from expectations and I have to be there for myself always. I have understood the value of selfcare. To always be there for yourself while you are praying to God for deeper faith and that His will be done as HE is there always for us when you call out to Him. Thanks GOD for saving me. I have to rest, have fun and enjoy life. Never worry for tomorrow but stay closer to the Father. Jesus was too was not spared from difficulty, from loneliness, from misunderstood, disappointed, wanted to give up, tempted, This is when GOD wanted you to be like Him. GOD is within us. It is all up to us if we will answer His calling. True self discovery will truly bring out the best in you. Surrendering everything to GOD and have faith and thank YOU God for all the trials as it will bring light to our darkness. I am saved. I am forgiven. I am loved. Thank You GOD for this Covid. It all makes sense to me now. LINBIZ GLOBAL | PAGE 54

makes you more pressured thereby jumping into just anyone. The loud silence of many, experiencing mockery of one’s biological age ticking amongst the many pressure points mentioned, is already disturbing when discussing singles and married matters. If you are single , you definitely have an understanding of the pressures and disapproval of being a singleton in an African setting, especially the west. Talking about being unmarried from the late 20s to late 30s. You experience these pressures from within, family quest to show you off especially settling with big shot kind of name, friends who rate you based on marital status, the lack of workplace benefits and sometimes the system that brings its pressure, many almost experiencing a quarter life crisis.

What nobody shares is the pain many married people engage in after saying I DO, the unwritten law of Murphy (The pressure to get married comes with the pain to remain married) which has put many in despair and disdain, the silent war of deep pain, the love lust emotions that they carry on dailies, the shattered dreams of when I get married I would have the best of marriage like the happily ever after kind of story. The pain in some marriages feels better than the pressure to be called unmarried so the cycle continues with the search to find an attaché (partner) to be called into marriage.

Purpose: In the bid to enjoy life and its great pleasures, being in a purposeful marriage will most likely give you a deeper reason to say I DO, finding the purpose to which you are getting married is one step to having it right. Do what it takes to find the purpose first before going on this long journey. 5. Parenting: Our lives are but for impact, you want to live your lives having the responsibility to groom your kind and this isn’t just about having kids but goes deeper in managing the call to marriage and all that includes in it. When you find the 5 Ps in another person to fight fair with you, to trust you to achieve your dreams and theirs in support of each other, ready to walk that path with you meaning you both want and desire the-same thing, then I think it’s time to call in the papers with your full chest to say I DO without pressures and pain. Cheers to your 5 Ps as you dive through life. Jessica Sampson is a certified clinical sexologist and a marriage counselor, teaching couples intimacy in marriage. WOMEN IN POLITICS

REMOVE YOUR HEART AND STEP FORWARD By Jeanette Allom-Hill

O

n IWD this year instead of being excited about the potential for change a room full of women would bring I had a district feeling of “de ja vu”. We all know the disappointing statistics on women in political leadership positions and even those these numbers are slowly increasing the fact is that it will take many years for these numbers to be at the point that we have a truly diverse perspective at the leadership table of our most powerful positions. Research says the reasons range from a lack of confidence, the preselection process, limited funding, childcare options, and the political culture. If you delve deeper the research suggested there are two major reasons for women’s underrepresentation. First is “election aversion,’’ or women just not wanting to run. The second is voter bias against female candidates, which, they believe, still exists. (2)

she becomes too load, too strong, too much. In her book, What Happened Hilary Clinton, wrote: “It’s not customary to have women lead or even to engage in the rough-and-tumble of politics.” Former Republic of Ireland President Mary Robinson backups this research by saying “Women are actually more inclined towards that more modern leadership, which is a collaborative problem-solving, enabling, consultative, not just trying to assert a kind of hierarchical power. (5)

As women we are getting in the way of ourselves as we don’t want to play dirty, we don’t want to be criticize for who we are or what we do, and we don’t want to play rough or be in environments that are full of individual contributors. You may even go as far as saying we spend more time evaluating our likelihood of success and we see politics as a bad bet and not worth leaving our heart at the door for. We apparently know the problem and want more Beyond the logic I believe Marianne Williamson women in politics, so we have comprehensive action has the key to one of the root causes of lack of plans in place to address all these obstacles like diversity in politics when she says investing in women, establishing quotas, zero tolerance “Our deepest fear is not that on sexism, funding, and childcare. ( 3) we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful So why is it that with years of research and comprehensive beyond measure. It is our light, plans in place to smash the so-called glass ceiling are not our darkness That most numbers moving so slowly? In talking to the women in frightens us.” politics I work with and attempting to rally those around me to run I know there is a deeper reason we are not addressing in all our analysis and planning and that’s Women in Politics must shine their light to get to the top, they must expose their greatness for the Psychological Factor (4) the world to see and comment on, they must be The term dirty politics and the onslaught of public braver, smarter, and harder working than their opinion in political life turns off most women from counterparts and this is when it all comes unstuck. participating in it. British journalist Bim Adewunmi As women we are taught from an early age to play wrote, “who but the most thick-skinned would willingly low to stay safe. I commented to a friend of mine go through a cycle that so closely scrutinizes female recently on the fact that her daughter was not politicians’ fashion choices, sexual pasts and even their being bullied at school and her response to me is childcare arrangements?” on top of this deep personal that she had learned to not to voice her opinion scrutiny when a woman holds a position of power she is and not to shine and that had protected her from the bullies. expected to lead like a man and when she does, LINBIZ GLOBAL | PAGE 57

In my career the advice has often been lay low no organisation wants or will hire a whistle-blower. In addition to getting in the way of ourselves as women we get in the way of each other. When I started to think about running for Mayor, I was asked why would you want that type of pressure and exposure? The announcement has also brought out the greeneyed monsters who either criticize the arrogance of attempting to run or spend time undermining your capabilities to all that will listen. The final phycological hurdle is that we know politics is not safe and that the environment, policies and procedures will not protect us from ourselves or others The answer lies in the final verse of the Marianne Williamson poem: “And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we’re liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” If we don’t take the leap and confront our phycological fears and let our light shine despite the opposition then there will never be a change. The argument remains that as women make up half of the population and with their innate natures and capabilities, they should be in seats of power. The bottom line is our voices are like whispers now as we try to be heard as Janita Ardern says: “It’s not good enough to be heard. Women must be at the decision-making table,” If we truly want to have a voice for this generation and for those to come, then our voices must be amplified by our positions of power If we really want change in the culture and behaviours of those in power then we must step up despite the fear because if we don’t then nothing will ever change. Use the power that lies in being a woman your heart, mind, body, voice, and soul and face the fear and stand up As an aspiring woman in politics, I live by the Ruth Bader Ginsberg quote “If you want to be a true professional, you will do something outside yourself. Something to repair tears in your community. Something to make life a little better for people less fortunate than you. That’s what I think a meaningful life is – living not for oneself, but for one’s community.” RBG

WOMEN IN POLITICS

For women to be able to achieve these outcomes we need to be in positions of political power because in our hearts we know how to repair tears in our communities. That’s reason enough for me to bring my whole self and my whole heart to the political table 1. YOUR BUSINESS & YOUR FINANCE

YOUR BUSINESS YOUR FINANCE

or me, life is simple it’s about being healthy happy and financially secure, having the freedom both financially and emotionally to live life on my terms. What about you? In my 25 years as a financial counsellor, people have said to me ‘money is not the key to ‘happiness’ I reply Money is a tool, the means to give you the lifestyle ‘if you have enough money, you can have a key made! you want - clothes, jewelry, accessories the beatification and maintenance of your personal Financial Freedom is a choice! Choose Financial appearance, entertainment, travel, property, whatever. Step outside my “I’m O.K., it will never freedom and gift yourself a wonderful life! happen to me” comfort zone, Take Responsibility Lets be honest. how many of you are taking important Plan YOUR financial independence, take action. financial decisions that will effect your well being?

How many of you are just aware of what is happening? Financial Planning, What? Work, targets, entertaining, traveling, kids, extracurricular activities these are urgent, financial planning I’m told has to compete with these. It can be difficult to know where to start, not fully understanding financial products and seeking advice could be intimidating although not fully understanding the workings of the internal combustion engine doesn’t put us off buying cars! ‘Shopping’ for financial products involves time and hardly gives the instant gratification of retail therapy, botox, fillers, body contouring or a trip to an exotic destination!

Don’t confuse financial independence with financial security! Covid gave us a reality check. Retrictions meant close of businesses, redudancy, money lost! A monthly salary in your bank account, commissions, sponsorships or worse still an allowance/ supplemnatay credit card from your spouse/partner alone, could not render you capable of meeting all of your financial goals. It is how you plan and manage your finances which will result in fruition of objectives later in life. We are the women of the millennium trying to do it all and have it all. But how do we become financial independent or savvy when the kids are screaming, our husbands are demanding and our business associates are making us crazy?

Constantly bombard with images of youth and beauty, when it comes down to it, Saving, Investments, Life Insurance just aren’t sexy enough. Far from promising eternal youth and restructured beautification Financial Planning force you to confront the fact that you are going to get old, maybe sick and or be poor and dependent on someone. YOUR BUSINESS YOUR FINANCE

HERE ARE SOME IRREFUTABLE FACTS ◊ Majority of women will spend almost 1/3 of their adult lives on their own financially. ◊ Women enter times of transition when they marry, become mothers, widows, get divorced, start working and retire. ◊ Women seem to have less time than men to manage their financial resources ◊ Women live longer than men by an average of seven years ◊ 50% of all women older than 65 are widows. Widows frequently suffer sharp drop in their standard of living. ◊ A large number of first marriages end in divorce, subsequent marriages also end in divorce. ◊ A woman’s standard of living declines as much as 45% after a divorce ◊ It is never too late to consider that a marriage will terminate and to plan for that termination. ◊ Women are often responsible for the care of an elderly parent, both financially and psychologically. ◊ Women typically earn less and spend less time in the work force. ◊ Lower earnings may result in lower pensions in retirement It is difficult during a time of financial and emotional transition to think and plan. Clearly there is a great deal at stake for women…single or married, of all ages, incomes and ethnic backgrounds. However women can overcome these “barriers’ and learn how to build their Financial Security. This is the time women need to be at their most astute, financially. Most of us live - and think - as if the world were static, or as if it should be. As individuals, as women, and as members or leaders of organizations, too often the way we act, plan, and react betrays the assumption that tomorrow will be much like today, that we'll slide by all right if we just get a little better, a little smarter, at doing what we are already doing. However reality is a lot different. Many women are not completely at ease or fully in charge of their money Nothing brings out emotion like the topic of money. Culture, and religion play a role and women often use this as an excuse for not taking financial responsibility. It is easier to find excuses or blame someone or something else. LINBIZ GLOBAL | PAGE 66

Here are common misconceptions that women use as excuses for not taking personal financial responsibility. • Finance is too complicated to understand • If I take a risk in business or invsestment I will lose everything • I don’t have the money to save • I don’t have the time to manage my money • It is selfish to put yourself first • Someone else should be taking care of this for me • If I take control of my money I might offend others No matter how much you earn........ Pay Yourself First! Most of us live from salary to salary, others like myself get only commissions which means income can vary from month to month! However, we all have certain fixed expenses which have to be met every month. It helps to write down what you want! I was one of those who hated sitting down and writing/typing out my list of priorities. I prided myself with having a clear mind super memory and instant recall. I thought my mental recordings were good enough. Soon I realized my over confidence in my ability to mentally and physically multi task was delusional. Do you have the same issue too?? So, I learned to Identifying short- and long-term financial goals The process of goal setting and then planning for those goals from a financial standpoint often feel like an overwhelming task, frankly quite boring, when viewed on an overall scale. Shifting the mindset to include long-term financial goals may be challenging, as there are often a number of more immediate needs and goals to juggle. Flexibility, is key! However, you MUST have a written plan, a sort of blue print but it shouldn’t be written in stone. Life events, both positive and negative, may cause you to re-evaluate your goals.

YOUR BUSINESS YOUR FINANCE

1. START NOW You’re never too young—or too old—to set financial goals for your future. The sooner you get started, the sooner you will realize your goals and dreams.

2 DEFINE YOUR SHORT- AND LONG-TERM FINANCIAL GOALS Travel, Getting a higher degree, a further certification, doing a specialised course This is a beneficial starting point to map out concrete plans for reaching these goals. Further to identifying them, there is also a variety of research that indicates those who write down their goals have a better chance of achieving them. • improved achievement rate • increased accountability • Improved ability to track progress • motivation to stay on course • Immediate or, farther into the futureclearly defining and recording your goals provides an important sense of direction for putting appropriate strategies in place 3 BUILD A SPENDING PLAN, AND STICK TO IT Establish and use a budget! It’s really important to develop a realistic spending plan. There is factual value of having a defined spending plan. Please self-check prior to making purchases or other spending decisions!!! Spending plans are most effective when you create them in alignment with your identified short- and long-term goals. They accurately reflect what amounts you are able to work with.

LINBIZ GLOBAL | PAGE 67

YOUR BUSINESS YOUR FINANCE Besides rent, utilities, look carefully into what is essential and what is discretionary EssentialGroceries, household shopping, choose outlets that offer good value for money compare prices don’t buy just because the store is close to you! Discretionary-New clothes, shoes, accessories ..... updating your wardrobe! Buy on sale! Fortunately now we have many options example- outlet malls give us more choices plus the online shopping has opened a whole new scenario for discounts. Word of caution don’t go overboard just because a sale is on! Non- sale period, I usually go to the back of the showroom to check out stuff and generally find great bargains that are not overtly displayed Monthly trips for grooming. Going to an expensive place just to show-off, fit in, be accepted by others is stupidity; Select a place that uses good quality products and services. Also assess how long you can extend the time between your visits for grooming!

4 TOGETHERNESS! Couples come into a joint emotional partnership with financial habits that have already been established, and many are surprised to find their partner doesn’t share their views about money. This can be a source of great tension in relationships. Are both of you aware of what loans, credit card outstanding amounts, savings, investments insurances each has? To avoid tension in your relationship • Keep separate accounts • Maintain strict contribution/budget/spending rules • Follow the ‘yours, mine, ours’ system 5 STRUCTURED SYSTEMATIC SAVINGS PLAN! Why is this important, what could possibly be the value and importance of having such a plan? It’s a highly effective approach to ensure your future financial stability • “If you don’t see it, you don’t spend it” Right? • It takes away the impulse decision that isn’t in line with your overall goals. • It ensures ongoing positive progress towards goals and is easily tracked and monitored. • This is your first step to securing your future upgraded lifestyle 6 BUYING A HOUSE. A house is seen as a measure of success, but if buying one means never taking a vacation or depriving your kids of going to a great school or from extracurricular activities that add to their development , just step back and think again. 7 CHILDCARE COSTS. Often both partners have to work to pay for a house, taxes, living expenses and the like. Add a child to the mix and it’s more than clothing costs that keep adding on. Couples are often completely blindsided by childcare expenses!!!! Try not to give in to impulsive buying!!! 8 TRYING TO DO IT ALL. Childcare and children often limit flexibility. Many mothers opt out of the 9-to-5 work life to freelance because they can work when they choose while dealing with school or day-care schedules, illness, and extracurricular activities. However, this may reduce income and benefits, which can add stress so stay balanced and prioritize!

YOUR TO DO LIST • Open a savings account in YOUR name. If you already have one, AUTOMATE by standing instruction to your bank to debit 10 % of your income when it is credited to a start a savings/investment plan for your FUTURE • Build at least 3 month’s income which will become your Emergency Fund if you have a financial crisis THIS IS NO TOUCH MONEY • Don’t compensate/ask for compensation when budgets are compromised Just cut back. • Choose cheaper accommodation, stores to buy groceries, toiletries, clothes • Dress intelligently mix match..... accessorize! • Invest in yourself take membership to a high-profile business club (dinners/lunches/gala events are generally FREE) -gives you access to HNIs to improve/business/job prospects • Reduce eating/drinking out • Check prices before you order anything • Avoid ordering teas, coffee, water, juice, soup, salads • Use discount coupons • Don’t spend your hard-earned money to make/keep friends • Attend events that are free • Be intelligent when entertaining for business. Negotiate with restaurants/stores for discounts for continued business/bringing potential clients. • Metro/car pool instead of Uber • Volunteer your business services in return for access/exposure to better your earnings.

Repeat Umpteen times I am choosing to make the time to take charge of my money. No matter how much money I have, I am making my money grow! It is not selfish to take good care of myself financially. It is self-respecting and self-caring and ultimately makes my relationship with others more satisfying Whatever they are, List and prioritize your reasons, Stay focused. Don’t get side-tracked Pay Yourself First FOCUS ON YOUR FINANCIAL SECURITY Take charge of your finances It will raise your morale You will stop feeling helpless........ It’s really that simple Money isn’t the most important thing in life, but it’s reasonably close to oxygen on the “gotta have it” scale. ~Zig Ziglar Emailsandirichsaksena@gmail.com Whatsapp +97152 770 7084 Instagram Queen Sandi (@sandirichsaksena)

PARENTING IN THE EYES OF PHILIPPA PERRY & WHAT EVERY PARENT NEEDS TO KNOW By Shireen Jabry

If you are looking for a book on parenting that will change your definition of parenting, then look no further because you’ve just found it. Philippa Perry’s, ‘The Book You Wish Your Parents Had Read (And Your Children Will Be Glad That You Did)’ is an absolute, definitive eye opener. we treat other things; on the contrary says Philippa, ‘they need warmth and acceptance, Discussing what ultimately should be the top priority for physical touch, your physical presence, love plus a parent, Philippa Perry sheds some light on the most boundaries, understanding, play with people of natural, under-stated and unfortunately taken for granted all ages, soothing experiences and a lot of your relationship; that of the parent with the child. PARENTING

in specifically relating to our children, it could be what irritates us about them, our expectations for them or our fears for them.

ANY GOOD NEWS? Of course. You can improve the life of your children and their children today! ‘Pack & Unpack and examine what happened to you, how you felt about it then and how you feel about it now.’ Do not carry over anything that you found, in perspective, unhelpful, damaging or just neutral. AND PACK ONLY WHAT YOU NEED! In hindsight, to prevent a battlefield in the family and at home, we must remember that this environment allows the child to grow up properly. So, we adults must pay attention to our relationships. The child’s environment is not only limited to family but also includes his school and his own friendships. We must realize the importance of environment, so we look at their system and we try to turn it into the best environment for us and our children. ‘The child,’ says Philippa, ‘is the son of his natural environment that he grew up in and that surrounds him.’ This natural environment begins with family members. So, the POINTS TO REMEMBER way a child feels about themselves is derived from the arly childhood is like a melting pot of experiences small circle around them. It is certain that the family and its vital for creating relationships based on environment in particular has a significant impact friendship and respect. The mental health of on the child’s personality development and mental your child needs conditions and requirements that health. Obviously, children are individuals but they are must be maintained. One of the important indicators also a part of a whole system. of good mental health is the strong bond between Be very careful parents, because what is one of the most parents and children. But a question arises here: important things to realize is that a fake perception of ‘Why must we maintain the relationship and try to how to raise your children borrowed from your own strengthen it?’ Because humans are social beings parents is just simply that; fake and unrealistic. It’s just by nature and as philosophers say, ‘Humans are a perception that belongs to an older generation or programmed to connect with each other, the bonds number of generations. So, father and mother, please between parents and their children is established realize that you will pay a hefty price for not treating through raising an education and we have now your child as a person and dealing with his feelings, confirmed that the bond between parents and instead of just identifying them. ‘What will happen, children is of utmost importance and will provide most times, almost 9/10 times is that once your child health and happiness for you and your children.’

Therefore, if we reach this conclusion, we must stay with the children and always be beside them while they test their feelings and moods. Not making them feel isolated, feel the importance of children’s physical attachment to their parents, emotionally be close to the child, feel the importance of mutual influence between parents and their children. Have the desire to have conversations with logic and reason always. And always remember, ‘the cliché is true: children do not do what we say; they do what we do.’ LINBIZ GLOBAL | PAGE 72

I enjoyed meeting all the new people and making them feel the most comfortable and happy while enjoying their perfectly made drink. seeing the smiles on their faces made me feel the happiest. I stuck with that field for 3 years, until my first full time job. I worked as a Barista and went through months of training in Arkan Speciality Coffee to be able to learn all about coffee and all the different ways it's prepared.

Fast forward to December 2020, my life turned around. Everything i wanted changed because of 1 job i took. I worked with Lepure at the first ever held Formula 1 race in Saudi Arabia. I was on the accreditation team for two months. Two months of long shifts, mental, and physical pressure, I learned all new systems which was a big step for me. Eventually my hard work paid off, and i got a higher position as a Costumer Service Coordinator at Saudi Motorsport Company.

eople call me Soul because of how I turned my life around after battling my mental health, but that's not our story today.

The Formula 1 experience taught me the most, i had to learn even the most simple things, like writing an email. I met people who've been in the field for over 30 years and gained to much knowledge and experience from them. The one to leave the best impression in me was Miss Mirjiam Bogataj, she helped me be the best version of myself at work. Sometimes I took people's criticism very personally, until i learned it's not. If someone is criticizing my work it's for my own good, to deliver better at my next experience. ART & CULTURE

A PERSPECTIVE

FROM THE NATURAL WORLD

-Anum Farooq

Art & Culture

“I have nature and art and poetry, and if that is not enough, what is enough?” were the infamous words of Vincent van Gogh, who posthumously become one of the most significantly known artists in Western art history.

The human perspective is equally important, every artist has unique insight, a specific style, and a hidden story, that adds another dimension to explore in their artwork. Monet was partially sighted after his cataract diagnosis, and he perceived colours in a particular way. The greens, whites and blues began to muddy into yellow and purple tones. His work also began to take on more of an abstract quality with freer and larger brushstrokes such as his painting ‘The Artist’s House Seen from the Rose Garden’.

In a modern world of great chaos and uncertainty, balance and calm are the need of the hour. We only have to read the headlines, from the turmoil of Covid-19 to great changes locally, regionally, and globally, every facet of society is undergoing some “Blessed are they who see beautiful things form of turmoil and transformation. As humans, in humble places, where other people see perhaps it all becomes a little overbearing, and nothing” mused Camille Pissarro. herein art and culture comes to play a great role. A bridge between nature, aesthetics and the synthesis of harmony is an evolving trend in the Pissarro was born in 1830 and was the 19th Century world of art. One that is not new, but ancient as French Impressionist painter, who revelled in humanity in itself. portraying nature in its’ authentic glory. His paintings include Jalais Hill, Pointose (1807), which according We have all heard of Claude Monet, the prominent to The Metropolitan Museum of Art “established Impressionist painter of the 19th century, who Pissarro’s reputation as an innovative painter of the painted nature as he saw it, with many of his rural French landscape.” Even his contemporary critic infamous paintings emanating from his gardens at the time, 19th century, Emile Zola stated regarding in Giverny, situated in the region of Normandy in Pissarro’s painting; “this is the modern countryside… northern France. The human qualities associated And this little valley, this hill have a heroic simplicity with his paintings such as the series of ‘Water Lilies’, and forthrightness. Nothing would been more banal ‘The Rose Walk’ and ‘The Japanese Footbridge’, were it not so grand. Each viewer of Monet’s painting may evoke in themselves a personal emotional Such is the subject matter of nature in art that it allows response. The source of inspiration for Monet, depth of discovery. As a self-taught artist, I too have were the wonders of nature and perhaps his ideal been touched by the miracle of nature and often have world in his garden, in Giverny where he spent dared to feel the intensity of the wonders of the natural many decades. world. ART & CULTURE

From an early age, I have been instinctively drawn to wilderness and have often without a second thought, embarked on exploring its vastness. Often painting intuitively, with a focus on human perspectives and insights guided by nature. My paintings portray an abstract form of nature, almost a distilled essence from a human viewpoint. The painting ‘The Meditation” is inspired by the sky and the sea, a contemplation on the clouds, and the waves beneath them. In search of a tranquillity and harmony, through an everyday journey in nature.

The Meditation (Mixed Media on Canvas, circa 2021)

‘The Transcendental Tree’ which was completed on the occasion of Earth Day is a metaphysical exploration between worlds aligned with nature. Going beyond the mere observation and reflection within the natural world, by focussing on the environmental factors that make up local, regional, and global ecosystems. Nature encompasses everything around us, from the cracks of modern life we see an overflowing of the roots and shoots of the natural world. Perhaps, it is time that we ourselves actively engage with the sky above and the miracles of the Earth we walk upon. Art is that universal language that can cross that unspoken barrier and encourage each and everyone of us to ponder upon the bridge between nature and human harmony. Would it be too strange to say out aloud that nature forms an art culture in itself, one that we see as a pattern through the history of humanity. Each and every era has produced artists that have been passionately absorbed in the natural world. Perhaps it is time that we too as ordinary and brilliant as we all are, embark upon an adventure exploring the wilderness. As well as translating our perspectives onto the blank canvases of modern life, in the process adding to the art and cultural heritage of this expansive theme.

The Transcendental Tree (Oil on Canvas, circa 2021)

Perhaps, Monet’s advice to his students would be an apt starting point for us all; “When you go out to paint, try to forget what objects you have in front of you, a tree, a house, a field or whatever. Just think of this: here is a small square of blue, pink, an oval of green, a stripe of yellow, and paint them exactly as they appear to you, exact colours and shapes until they give you your naïve impression of the scene in front of you.”

Dr. Pasqua Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

D

r. Pasqua is a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner in New York, United States of America. She is a board member of the New York State Board of Nursing and is a member of the American Nurse Practitioners Association. She is also a member of the Alpha Alpha Theta Nursing Chapter in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Dr. Pasqua works with children and adolescence with mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, and eating disorders. She is actively involved in suicide prevention and awareness among the youth. Recently, she read an article on how U.S. Muslims are two times more likely to have attempted suicide than other religious groups according to a study published in JAMA psychiatry. Dr. Pasqua states “Suicide is a serious public health issue and is the leading cause of death in the United States. According to the CDC, in 2020, suicide was among the top leading causes of death for individuals 10-64 years of age.” As a result of these findings, she met with Iman’s from the local mosques to discuss mental health concerns in the Muslim community. When the community is under stress, the community will seek mental health counseling from an Iman and will underutilize mental health services from the community professionals. Dr. Pasqua said, “To serve the Muslim community effectively, it is essential that mental health providers integrate religiosity, spirituality, and religious beliefs into treatment.” She verbalized the importance of destigmatizing mental illness in the Muslim community and the importance of creating a safe space where parents

and children can have an open dialogue about mental health. Dr. Pasqua says, “I met with the youth and parents about specific mental health issues. This was lacking in our community.” Dr. Pasqua stated, “an understanding of the culture, the Quran, the faith, and a connection with the people help the community trust mental health providers.” “It’s important to promote connectedness, community outreach and parent awareness programs in the mosque to support the community.” Dr. Pasqua began to understand that some individuals of the Muslim community attributed their mental health problems due to an evil eye (Hasad), supernatural possession (Jinn), magic (Sihr) or due to lack of faith. She said, “It is important as medical and psychiatric providers that we are culturally competent and culturally sensitive.” “I advanced my understanding of Islamic psychology, which is the study of the soul, behavior and mental processes according to the principles of Islamic sciences to be of service to the Muslim community.” In the community, individuals were hesitant regarding medications for anxiety/depression when therapy was not effective. Dr. Pasqua was able to draw from the hadiths to encourage seeking help with a trusted professional to alleviate symptoms. She would refer to hadiths such as “There is no disease that Allah has created, except that he also created it’s treatment (Suhih al Bukhar). This in turn created ease in discussing treatment options that once were prohibited to speak about. Due to her Islamic knowledge and her natural ability to connect to people, she was able to connect and form relationships with the Muslim community. She provided education and support LINBIZ GLOBAL | PAGE 78

which assisted to de-stigmatize mental health. She created an open dialogue by creating a trusting environment that was safe for teens/children and parents to openly discuss about their mental health struggles. Dr. Pasqua states “It creates trust which is fundamental to the therapeutic process.” Dr. Pasqua sees the impact of social media on our youth. “Children/Teenagers are spending hours daily on social media apps. The obsession with checking likes and comments are contributing to depression, social withdrawal, eating disorders and anxiety in our youth. It’s the first thing they look at when they wake up and then some take their phone to bed which contributes to sleep issues.” “We discuss these issues openly and come up with plans to be social in real life and not in a virtual world. “It impacts their mental health and isolates them from family/friends.”

have a great relationship. I have the greatest respect for them all.” The only country in the Middle East she travelled to was Dubai, UAE, for a nursing conference. She said, “If I had one wish to be granted, my wish is to visit Saudi Arabia, Mecca and Medina and to say As salamu alaykum if I am blessed to run into Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman.”

In Islamic psychology, the spiritual dimensions of individuals have been described by using several concepts including Nafs (the self), Ruh (spirit), Aql (mind and intellect) and Qalb (the heart). The focus is on spirituality, faith, and mental health. Discussions with the adolescents and teens focus on ways to deal with depression and anxiety utilizing lessons from the Quran and Sunnah. Dr. Pasqua also educates other mental health professionals. Recently she spoke at an International Nursing Conference, Dubai, UAE, December 15-17, 2020, on Self-Harm in Adolescents: Treatment Strategies. And on January 30, 2021, she presented on the mental health effects of covid on health care professionals in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Her future endeavors are centered around creating a Muslim Wellness Center in mosques across the United States. This center will include therapists, social workers, and prescribing practitioners. She also will like to implement mental wellness in Sunday school curriculums in the mosques. Dr. Pasqua believes “The community will be able to get counseling, psychiatric and psychological support rooted in Islamic principles. In addition, there will be youth groups on coping skills, stress management, anxiety management and parent groups.” Lastly, Dr. Pasqua is enamored with the Middle East. She adores the people of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Dr. Pasqua states, “I was lucky to meet great nurses and doctors in KSA through conferences. We LINBIZ GLOBAL | PAGE 79

WOMEN IN MANAGEMENT

Women in Management (WIM), a Sri Lankan organization founded by Dr. Sulochana Segera in year 2009, opened its membership in 2010 with an objective of providing a networking platform for women to realize their dreams and mentor women who has less opportunities to be successful in their personal, career and business lives. WIM being a change agent for women organizations in Sri Lanka, took the leadership to address country economy issues by finding root causes. They started breaking myths that women cannot create concepts. They worked towards taking out women from the dependency mind sets to independent mind sets. WIM focused more on solutions than the issues. At a time when Sri Lankan women were branded more as domestic workers in the Middle East and working only on informal sectors, WIM took the courage to use the educated and skilled women to highlight the professional and career women, both nationally and internationally. As a result, WIM became the first Sri Lankan women organization to export its brand to global, advocating and branding Sri Lankan women for their multitude of talents and successes. Professional & Career Women Awards was introduced by Dr. Sulochana Segera in 2011 with 5 Awards to recognize outstanding women leaders in corporates and careers. This is the 12th edition of the awards, and over the past decade, WIM has recognized over 520 women for their outstanding leadership and remarkable achievements. Going beyond Sri Lanka, WIM has also been able to extend this recognition to Maldives, Canada, USA registered only as well. Today, both countries have opened up WIM Chapters to carry out the WIM vision, and are also working towards taking its brand to Australia and United Kingdom.
