Extra-Curricular Clubs Autumn Term 2022

Welcome to LEH Junior School

Extra-Curricular Clubs. Please encourage your daughter to take advantage of the many opportunities available to her. We hope that the extra-curricular clubs will help your daughter to develop and practise new skills and make new friends. At the back of this booklet, you will find a useful summary of all the clubs on offer, which are paid for and when they occur.

3

Paid clubs

If you have any enquiries, please send your email to jallden@lehs.org.uk

If your daughter signs up to attend a club that requires half a term’s notice, she will be booked into that club for the whole year. If you wish to cancel a paid club, you need to give half a term’s notice, using the link ‘Let Us Know’ on the Parent Portal.

TheBookingsClubsFairon

As a school, we recognise the importance of socialising in the playground and so there are only three lunchtime clubs available to Form 1 pupils in the Autumn Term so that they have at least two days when they can play outside. We also ask that you do not sign them up for more than two after school clubs initially in Form 1 as this first, long term is often very tiring for them and some will also be getting used to much longer journeys to school.

Friday 9th September provides an opportunity for all pupils to find out more about the clubs on offer this term. The SOCS booking system for the Autumn Term clubs is open from 10 am Saturday 10th September until 6pm on Monday 12th September. If you have been successful in booking a place online, you should assume your daughter will be attending that club from the week beginning Monday 19th September. Please note, if a club is full, there is a waiting list booking option, where you can register your interest.

This club runs for a year and requires half a term’s notice.

Musical Theatre club is an excellent opportunity for your daughter to explore her creativity through singing, dancing and acting. We have put on some lovely shows over the past couple of years including ‘Seussical Jr.’, ‘Annie’, ‘Mary Poppins’ and ‘The Lion King’. Different year groups have their clubs on different days.

Abel Karate classes will include a mixture of self-defence and awareness training, traditional Karate and competition training. Karate helps with selfconfidence, decision making, social skills, respect, discipline, mental health, focus and co-ordination. Abel Karate has been teaching students from the local and national areas for over 10 years. Sensei Paul Abel is the founder of Abel Karate, and he runs the after-school club at LEH. Sensei Paul has been training in Karate for 28 years and competed for England for 5 years.

U1 Musical Theatre runs at lunchtime and afterschool. With the lunchtime club priority is given to pupils who travel on the school coach. We will therefore ask pupils who wish to do Musical Theatre in U1 to put their names on the waiting list. We will then allocate club places to pupils from the waiting list.

Each term children complete a fun and engaging project module by creating music to various forms of media. Projects range from making music for TV adverts or movie trailers, through to producing radio shows and composing in a range of musical styles.

The course is about composing music and balances a traditional musical learning curve with access to the latest creative technologies. Focusing on key musical concepts such as melody, harmony, rhythm and arrangement, we ensure each child gains a full understanding of how music is created, note by note.
