Extra-Curricular Clubs Autumn Term 2021
Welcome to LEH Junior School Extra-Curricular Clubs. Please encourage your daughter to take advantage of the many opportunities available to her. We hope that the extracurricular clubs will help your daughter to develop and practise new skills, challenging and encouraging her to take risks. At the back of this booklet you will find a useful summary of all the clubs on offer and details of timings and costs.
2
Bookings The Clubs Fair on Friday 10th September provides opportunity for all pupils to find out more about the clubs on offer this term. The SOCS booking for the Autumn Term clubs is open from 10 am Saturday 11th September until 6pm on Monday 13th September. If you have been successful in booking a place online, you should assume your daughter will be attending that club from the week beginning Monday 20th September. Please note, if a club is full, there is a waiting list booking option, where you can register your interest. Form 1 pupils, as mentioned in the online induction day, should not have more than 3 lunch time clubs and 2 after school clubs this term. This is to allow them to settle in and make friends. If you do by accident book more clubs, we will contact you to find out which clubs you would prefer.
Paid clubs If your daughter signs up to attend a club that requires half a term’s notice, she will be booked into that club for the whole year. If you wish to cancel a paid club, you need to give half a term’s notice, using the link ‘Let Us Know’ on the Parent Portal. If you have any club enquiries, please send your email to jallden@lehs.org.uk

They are then invited to audition for a place in this chamber ensemble. When invited to join, pupils normally participate for the whole year. Because the music is more advanced, members are asked to commit to rehearsals two mornings each week. The JHS will perform in major concerts throughout the year.

Regular attendance and commitment are required to ensure invitations to galas.
Wind Ensemble Wind ensemble is open to any pupil of grade 2 standard and above on an orchestral wind instrument (woodwind or brass). Pupils are invited to join and normally participate for the whole year. The wind ensemble will perform in concerts through the year. Rehearsals are weekly.

Lunch time clubs Card Making Club Card making club is available to L2/U2 pupils. Pupils will have the opportunity to learn how to make different styles and types of cards, developing their artistic and creative skills. Each half term block is booked separately to enable more pupils to have a chance of participating so please do not book your daughter in for both half term sessions this term.
Cross Stitch Club Cross stitch club is available for U1 and L2, but the numbers are limited. Pupils will have the opportunity to work on a given pattern and are welcome to join in whether they have mastered this enjoyable hobby or are an enthusiastic newcomer. This is a wonderful opportunity to relax and have a fun time with your friends. Each half term block is booked separately to enable more pupils to have a chance of participating so please do not book your daughter in for both half term sessions this term.
Dance Club Dance club will take place on Tuesday lunchtime. No experience is necessary, and pupils will have the opportunity to explore a wide range of dance styles. The club is available for F1 and U1 pupils.
Ecology Club Ecology club is where the pupils look at different organisms and their habitats. We are lucky enough to have lots of birds and mini beasts on site and we would love even more. During the club, pupils will investigate pondlife, look under the logs in the loggery and will assist in developing the rest of the garden to attract more wildlife.
5
Gym Club The lunch time gym club is open to everyone from that specific year group. This term there will be gym groups for U1-U2. Pupils work on their fundamental skills such balance, core strength and flexibility, as well as their skill set with a specialist coach. It is from these lunch time clubs that some L2 and U2 pupils are selected to take part in the after school gym squad.
Junior School Choir The Junior School choir is open to all pupils in the school who enjoy singing. Pupils are invited to join and participate for the entire year. The Junior School choir will perform in concerts throughout the year. Rehearsals are weekly.
MFL Clubs These are fun, language clubs for beginners, run by the Language Assistants from the Senior School and activities include songs and games. Spanish and French club will run for the year and German club will start after half term.
Mindfulness clubs Mindfulness clubs are run by our mindfulness teacher Julia Hennessey. Tuesday’s club is for L2/U2 pupils to have some time to practise and extend what they learnt during their Mindfulness lessons in L2. The F1/U1 club provides an introduction to mindfulness. Mindfulness practice itself involves activities such as attention-training and meta-cognitive tasks that help children focus on the present moment and work skilfully with their thoughts and emotions. It does not necessarily come easily; the mind often wanders at first. But with practice, children become more able to focus their attention.
6
Netball Clubs Lunch time netball clubs are open to pupils from U1 – U2 during specified sessions. All pupils are welcome to come and improve their netball skills. Commitment is expected and every pupil who attends will have the opportunity to take part in inter-school matches, which take place after school on Wednesdays. All sessions are designed to help to improve pupils’ fitness levels, games awareness and experience competition. It is from these lunch time clubs that the after school squad players are selected.
Orchestra Junior School orchestra is open to all pupils of grade 2 standard and above on an orchestral instrument. Pupils are invited to join and participate for the whole year. The school orchestra will perform in concerts through the year. Rehearsals are weekly.
Training Orchestra Training orchestra is for pupils who play an orchestral instrument and are not yet at grade 2 standard. This ensemble will prepare pupils for entry to the school orchestra with other pupils selected from the school orchestra to act as their mentors. Rehearsals are weekly.
Rock Star This is music making in a more contemporary style for all those budding rock stars. Rehearsals are in the music room on Mondays at either 12:2012:50 or 4:00-4:30 depending on which group a pupil has been allocated to. All instrumentalists, grade 2 and above, are invited to join. Numbers are limited and we advise parents to sign up using the waiting list. Pupils will be allocated to one of the clubs so there is a good balance of instruments. Mr Estorninho will let you know which group your daughter is in or if we need to operate a waiting list.
7

There will be a separate running club for F1 pupils on Friday lunch times.

Karate Abel Karate are very excited to announce that we will be starting a new Friday after school Karate club. Our Karate classes will include a mixture of girl’s self-defence and awareness training, Traditional Karate and competition training. Karate helps with self-confidence, decision making, social skills, respect, discipline, mental health, focus and co-ordination. Abel Karate has been teaching students from the local and national areas for over 10 years. Sensei Paul Abel is the founder of Abel Karate, and he will be running the after school club at LEH. Sensei Paul has been training in Karate for 28 years and competed for England for 5 years. This club runs for a year and requires half a term’s notice.
Musical Theatre Musical theatre club is an excellent opportunity for your daughter to explore her creativity through singing, dancing and acting. We have put on some lovely shows over the past couple of years including ‘Seussical Jr.’, ‘Annie’, ‘Mary Poppins’ and ‘The Lion King’. In previous years, the club has only been for F1 and U1 and has recently opened to L2 and U2 due to popular demand! Different year groups have their clubs on different days. U1 musical theatre runs at lunchtime and after school. With the lunchtime club priority is given to pupils who travel on the school coach. We will therefore ask pupils who wish to do musical theatre in U1 to put their names on the waiting list. We will then allocate club places to pupils from the waiting list. This club runs for a year and requires half a term’s notice.
Music Tech This ongoing club is booked via MTech and requires half a term’s notice to MTech for anyone who wishes to leave. MTech hold a waiting list. M:Tech is a fun and engaging way for your child to learn to create exciting music. It is specially designed for children aged 7 - 11 and suitable for all levels of musical ability. In the Autumn 2021 term the children will be working on Project ‘POP’! Join our pop band and take over the studio to create a chart topping, smash hit song! Turn a song idea into a cool hip-hop track, a rock’n’roll classic or a dance music anthem! A digital download is emailed directly to parents and a certificate will be given out in assembly at the end of each term. This course is administered directly by M:Tech. To register your child’s interest, please sign up online at www.mtechonline.co.uk or contact Pia, Rebecca or Ann on 01483 578114. Fees are £180 per term with weekly sessions of 30 minutes. Please note booking is via M:Tech directly.
Yoga Club Yoga club is open to all pupils and runs on a Monday lunch time. Yoga for children has many benefits. It helps to support positive mental health by teaching children to manage stress through healthy movement, body awareness, breathing techniques and meditation. By learning how to use their bodies in a healthy way each pupil, no matter what their ability, develop a sense of belonging and become part of a healthy, noncompetitive group. This in turn helps to build concentration and increase confidence and positive self-image, in a safe and nurturing environment. We learn in a fun and creative space through games and individual challenges. This club is available to book on a termly basis.
