Children Programs Rhythm Dance Classes - Rhythm dance instructors will help your child learn to dance in a variety of classes held at both the downtown studio and at the Frank Jameson Community Centre (please check your registration confirmation for location).
Ballet In these classes, little dancers develop a broad range of dance and movement skills incorporating components such as music awareness, play using creative imagination, and dance focusing on body awareness, flexibility, posture, and poise. Youth Programs Youth Zone There are a variety of exciting recreational and social activities for preteens ages 10-12yrs and teens ages 13-18yrs at our Youth Zone. Youth have access to gym activities, sports equipment, pool tables, foosball tables, ping-pong tables, card and board games, as well as a gaming system, TV and DVD players for special nights. Youth are welcome to attend and no registration is required. Option 1 focuses on improving activities of daily living, strengthening muscles used day-to-day. Aquatic Information Four-lane, 25-metre pool heated at 28°C (82-83°F) features: diving board • slides • rope swing• aquatic lift • basketball hoops • removable stairs • climbing wall • water run-ways. Therapy pool accessible by ramp; heated at 34°C (94°F) & has a shallow end depth of zero sloping to four feet (aquatic wheelchairs are available for moving from change rooms into therapy pool.) Whirlpool is a combination of turbulent air & 40°C (104°F) water pumped into the pool. The Sauna is a hot, dry, relaxing area kept at an average of 55°C (131°F). **Children under 7 years must be accompanied in water & within arm’s reach of parent or person 19 years plus. Children under 7yrs must be accompanied by an adult (2 children/1 adult).

Red Cross Swimming Lessons Parent-included Levels (6-36 months) Experiencing buoyancy, movement, entries, songs & games in the water. (Must be able to hold head up) Starfish: 6-12mos. Duck: 12-24mos. Sea Turtle: 24-36mos.
Preschool (3-5 yrs) Sea Otter: Transition from Sea Turtle & greater independence. An introductory level for new swimmers. Salamander: Actively learn new swimming skills including floats & glides through games & songs. Sunfish: Work on stroke & skill progressions, water safety & deep water. Crocodile: Start independent glides & kicking in deep water. Endurance increased by distance swims on front & back. Whale: Swim independently & participate in team games. Increase distance swims & improve skills in front & back swims.

Swim Kids Level 7: Build skills & endurance for front & back crawl, backstroke. Sculling, whip kick & breathing obstructions.
Swim Kids Level 1: Entry level; orientation to the water & pool, introduces submersions, front & back floats & glides with kicks.

Aqua Adults: Would you like to add swimming to your fitness & recreation portfolio? Designed for beginner or intermediate swimmers, the Aqua Adult swim lessons are hour long sessions with a half hour lesson and half hour practice time.
Aquatic Leadership Programs NL Precert / Recert (16yrs+) Join us for the opportunity to catch up on any changes to the NLS certification & to practice prior to your recertification. Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Step 1 (15yrs+) Step 1 involves 3 components: Swim stroke and water safety skills screening, online modules and a teaching practicum (810 hours). The swim stroke and water safety skills screening is designed to ensure candidates can swim to a Red Cross Kids Level 10 standard and will include an evaluation. At the end of the stroke screening session, successful candidates will continue onto the online portion of the course. *Candidates must have a current Emergency First Aid Certificate. Jr. Lifeguard Club (8-12yrs) Develop swimming & lifesaving skills, knowledge, personal fitness, leadership & teamwork. Designed by the Lifesaving Society for a serious purpose, but the process is pure fun. Option to stay & help coordinate activities in the public swim that follows from 6:30-9:00. Fri Oct 7-Dec 16 5:30-6:30pm $67.05/10 sessions
Bronze Medallion (13yrs+) Teaches an understanding of the lifesaving principles embodied in the four components of water rescue education - judgement, knowledge, skill and fitness. Rescuers learn both tows and carries, and release methods in prparation for challenging rescues of increased risk. Lifesavers learn to respond to increasingly complex situations involving concious and unconscious victims with an obstructed airway. Lifesavers also develop stroke efficiency and endurance in a timed swim. Tue, Thu Oct 18-Nov 17 5:30-8:00pm $190/10 sessions (fee includes manual)
Bronze Cross (14yrs+) Designed for lifesavers who want the challenge of more advanced training including an introduction to safety supervision in aquatic facilities. Bronze Cross teaches the difference between lifesaving and lifeguarding, the principles of emergency proceddures, and team work. Lifesavers learn how to rescue a spinal-injured victim and a pulseliess victim. Bronze cross is the pre-requisite to National Lifeguard. Tue, Thu Nov 22-Dec 22 5:30-8:30pm $160/10 sessions
