Rhythm Dance Classes... Rhythm Dance instructors will help your child learn to dance in a variety of classes Hip-Hop

Hip-hop is a dance style usually danced to hip-hop music, having evolved from the hip-hop culture. Hiphop is a very energetic form of dancing, unique in that it allows its dancers to perform with freedom of movement, adding in their own personalities. Come groove with us! In these classes, little dancers develop a broad range of dance and movement skills incorporating components such as music awareness, play using creative imagination, and dance focusing on body awareness, flexibility, posture, and poise. Learn fundamentals of jazz dance and tap technique in this progressive class. Plastic sticks, plastic pucks, fast and furious action! Bring your friends and have some fun playing noncompetitive floor hockey. Emphasis on participation, skill development, and game play. Taekwondo for Kids (4-8 yrs.)

A beginner’s level taekwondo including kicks, punches, stances, movements, discipline and etiquette. The course also covers some basic stretching exercises, self defense moves and gymnastics for a well-rounded program designed just for kids! Getting Bendy - Yoga for Kids (6-12yrs)

In this class, learning is intentional, acting like an animal is normal, and fun is mandatory! Kids will learn to connect their body, mind and breathe with playful movement. Practice together through flowing yoga poses that promote balance, concentration, strength, flexibility with a direct connection to nature. Shotokan Karate (6+)

Fun, fitness and fundamentals! Become confident in your ability to defend yourself, while learning kata, sparring, self-defense, and alternatives to violence. Designed to be fun and fast moving to keep the attention span of 3 - 4 year olds, this class is guaranteed to teach fun and physical safety skills while in the gym, at home, or on the playground! Youth Programs Youth Zone.... There are a variety of exciting recreational and social activities for preteens ages 10-12yrs and teens ages 13-18yrs at our Youth Zone. Youth have access to gym activities, sports equipment, pool tables, foosball tables, ping-pong tables, card and board games, as well as a gaming system, TV and DVD players for special nights. Youth are welcome to attend and no registration is required. Youth Zone - Fitness Blender (13-18yrs)

Youth Zone - Fitness Blender is a series of fitness and wellness classes specifically for teens. Classes include spin, bootcamp, TRX, yoga, boxerfit, strength training, fundamental movement skills and nutrition. All classes wil be taught by BCRPA fitness instructors and will be FREE of charge. Physical Activity Youth Leadership Program

Interested in leadership and impacting your community through recreation, sport and physical activity? The Physical Activity Youth Leadership Program provides youth with the opportunity to develop key leadership skills as physical activity leaders. Successful candidates will receive certificates in the following programs: Fundamental Movement Skills for Community and Recreation Leaders; High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development; Physical Literacy 101; and Emergency 1st Aid. After the training week is complete, Youth Leaders will focus on promoting physical activity to younger children in after school programs in the community. March 20-24, 2017

Printmaking Open Studio Drop In

The Importance of Edges

A popular venue for those who have taken at least one beginners printmaking workshop, or seasoned printmakers/artists who would like to use the studio and press. Bring ideas you couldn’t fit into your first workshop and work independently; design prints from combinations of techniques, and mix your own custom colours. Bookbinding Treasures

Enjoy making six beautiful, interesting, useful books. Begin with four books using basic structures...pamphlet stitch, stab binding and accordion assembly. Bookbinding: Coptic Stitched Journal

Your journal will be constructed from book boards covered with beautiful decorative paper and a book block with 128 pages of 24 pound text weight paper. Photographing Your Artwork

Taking good photographs of your artwork is crucial in displaying and promoting your art, whether for print, email, website or blog. Online viewers judge your art by digital images only - so you need high-quality photos to sell your artwork online, or send to a gallery or jurors. Fitness/Aquatics Class Intensity Levels

The intensity levels are used as a guideline. Each individual may choose to work at their own pace. Warm up is an important component of your workout - please show up on time for your classes. Restorative - restorative fitness, no impact. May require medical clearance. Perhaps the use of a mobility aid, health issues to consider. Gentle - beginner level, very low impact, low cardio intensity, rehabilitative fitness, some classes may require medical clearance. Perhaps the use of a mobility aid, health issues to consider. Low—beginner level, new to fitness, low impact, mild cardio intensity, gentle strength training for joints. Great for those returning to fitness post injury or surgery. Variety of equipment tools are used. Some compound muscle movements may be introduced. Some modifications may be given to those who need them. High— Advanced fitness levels. Four-lane, 25-metre pool heated at 28°C (82-83°F) Features: diving board • slides • rope swing • aquatic lift • basketball hoops • removable stairs • climbing wall • water run-ways. Therapy pool accessible by ramp; heated at 34°C (94°F) and has a shallow end depth of zero sloping to four feet (aquatic wheelchairs are available for moving from change rooms into therapy pool.) Whirlpool is a combination of turbulent air and 40°C (104°F) water pumped into the pool. The Sauna is a hot, dry, relaxing area kept at an average of 55°C (131°F). **Children under 7 years must be accompanied in water and within arm’s reach of parent or person 19 years plus. Adult Swim Fit

All levels of swimmers welcome. Workouts are based on structured swim progressions with a focus on improving stoke techique and effeciency. Distances are based on individual skill and ability. Aquatic Leadership Programs Bronze Medallion / Bronze Cross (14yrs+)

Lifesaving Instructor Course (16+)

Exciting program encompassing lifesaving principles through the components of water rescue education, and using judgement, knowledge, and skill to perform simple to complex rescues. Sun, Tue, Thu Mar 19 - Mar 30 9:00am-3:00pm $300/6 sessions or $140 Cross only (must have manual)

Candidates are introduced to basic learning approaches and teaching strategies and apply them to teaching water rescue, first aid, and other lifesaving skills. Also learn about long-term and short term planning, class management, safety supervision, and the principles of evaluation. Participants must have Bronze Cross. Sun Jan 15 - Jan 29 9:00am-6:00pm $280/3 sessions

Jr. Lifeguard Club (8-12yrs)

Develop swimming & lifesaving skills, knowledge, personal fitness, leadership & teamwork. Designed by the Lifesaving Society for a serious purpose, but the process is pure fun. Four-hour clinic giving the latest updates to the Lifesaving Society Instructor Certification. Sun Mar 12 8:00am-12:00pm $115/1 session

NLS Precert / Recert (16yrs+)

Join us for the opportunity to catch up on any changes to the NLS certification & to practice prior to your recertification. Prerequisites NLS Pool Option & CPR C current within one year. Thu, Fri Mar 16 & 17 5:30-9:30pm $115/2 sessions

First Aid Programs Standard First Aid & CPR’C’ (11yrs+)

A fun interactive program including components of emergency first aid but also encompassing injuries to the head & spine, musculoskeletal injuries, sudden medical conditions, poisons, substance abuse & misuse. Certification upon successful completion of course. Valid for 3 years. No pre-requisites. Sat,Sun Feb 25&26 9:00am-6:00pm $140/2 sessions

CPR C Recert (14yrs+)

This is a refresher training session for those that need or wish to recertify their CPR C. Fri Feb 24 5:30-9:30pm $45/1 session

Emergency First Aid & CPR (11yrs+)

This interactive course includes techniques in first aid & CPR. Topics include: emergency medical systems, primary survey, respiratory emergencies, cardiovascular emergencies, bleeding management, shock & secondary survey. Certification is valid for 3 years upon successful completion. Sat Feb 25 9:00am-6:00pm $85/1 session

Full payment is required at time of registration. Payment is accepted by cheque, credit card, debit card, or cash. All registrations are processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Register early to avoid cancellation or disappointment.

Cancellations

Programs are subject to cancellation due to insufficient registration. If this occurs, a full refund will be issued. In the event that a program or an individual class is cancelled, every attempt will be made to have the class or program rescheduled.

Refunds

Refunds may be given for withdrawals prior to the start of the program unless a refund/withdrawal deadline is noted. Prorated refunds may be given once the program begins. If more than half the program has elapsed, no refund or credit will be offered.

Co-sponsored Programs

No credit or refund shall be granted after the program start date.

Leisure Access Program

Parks, Recreation & Culture is committed to providing accessible & affordable recreation programs. Families living within Town boundaries with a combined family income at or below the Statistics Canada Low Income Threshold are eligible to apply for the Leisure Access Program.
