Full payment is required at time of registration. All registrations are processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Sadly, excellent programs are sometimes cancelled when people wait until the last minute to register. We need to make decisions three to five days prior to the start date of our programs to allow for proper preparation. Please register early to avoid disappointment.

10x and 30x Passes - Punch passes are nontransferable and do not expire. Monthly Passes - Monthly passes are nontransferable and non-refundable. No ‘holds’ permitted for 1 month passes. 12 month passes can be placed on ‘hold’ for a minimum of two weeks two times per pass. A scheduled monthly payment plan is available for 12 month passes. Ask reception for more details. ALL PASSES CAN BE USED IN BOTH THE POOL AND FITNESS CENTRE, AS WELL AS ANY DROP-IN FITNESS CLASSES
Cancellations
Programs are subject to cancellation due to insufficient registration. If this occurs, a full refund will be issued. In the event that a program or an individual class is cancelled, every attempt will be made to have the class or program rescheduled.
Refunds
Refunds may be given for withdrawals 5 days prior to the start of the program, subject to a $5 refund processing fee. No withdrawals or refunds 4 days or less before course start date. In cases of extended illness or injury, a prorated refund or credit may be granted upon provision of a medical note. Classes missed due to sickness, vacation, or other reasons will not be refunded or credited.
Leisure Access Program
Parks, Recreation & Culture is committed to providing accessible and affordable recreation programs. Families living within Town boundaries with a combined family income at or below the Statistics Canada Low Income Threshold are eligible to apply for the Leisure Access Program. Youth Zone Fitness Blender is a series of fitness and wellness classes specifically for teens. This course will help you develop one or more swimming strokes, working toward proficiency and increased endurance. Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Recert
The Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Recertification Course is designed to ensure quality and standards are maintained in the field. Recertification provides the opportunity for WSIs to share ideas, review skills and address areas of challenge. Recertification course content is refreshed every two years based on feedback and trends. 5 hours – 1 hour 30 minutes classroom, 3 hours 30 minutes pool. Classroom includes a professional development component and a Red Cross Swimming & Water Safety Program Update. Pool includes a WSI – Skills Evaluation for water safety skills and strokes, and Instructor Emergency Response (IER) skills. Prerequisite: Have taken a Red Cross WSI Course since 1996 and have proof of certification. *Note: Newly certified WSIs must complete the three mandatory WSI - Online Professional Development Courses (Evaluating Strokes, Supervising the Teaching Experience, and Teaching Parented Classes), before attending their first WSI Recertification Course. Water Safety Instructor - Step 1 Prerequisites: 15 years or older by the last day of the WSI, ability to perform Red Cross swim Kids 10 strokes and skills, and hold one of the following certifications (not required to be current): Red Cross Assistant Lifeguard, Emergency First Aid or equivalent. Step 1 involves 3 components: swim stroke and water safety skills screening, online modules and an 8 hr minimum teaching practicum.

Using games and activities, swimmers learn to swim 2 meters, further develop basic floats and increase their distance on front and back glide. Front swim and roll-over glide are also included, and swimmers learn appropriate water safety skills such as how to jump into chest-deep water and how to use a lifejacket/Personal Flotation Device (PFD). Safety skills development includes water orientation, safe entries and exits and only swimming when an adult is present.
Through games and other fun activities, swimmers learn to swim 5 meters on their front and back, perform a dolphin kick and begin using rhythmic breathing. They also progress with kicking drills and increase their swimming distance to 10 meters. Safety skills include jumping into deep water and performing surface support for 10 seconds, recognizing when a swimmer needs help and using a lifejacket/Personal Flotation Device (PFD) in deep water.

Through fun activities, swimmers perform a front and back swim for 10 meters. Swimmers work on developing their flutter kick and perform a distance swim of 15 meters. Safety skills include identifying safe swimming areas, jumping into deep water, swimming 5m, surface support for 20 seconds, a return to safety, throwing assists and sitting dives. Swimmers learn about the dangers of open water, hypothermia, the performance of rescue breathing on children and adults, and standing shallow dives. Aquatic / Fitness Class Intensity Levels
The intensity levels are used as a guideline. Each individual may choose to work at their own pace. Warm up is an important component of your workout PLEASE SHOW UP ON TIME FOR CLASS. Restorative - restorative fitness, no impact. May require medical clearance. Perhaps the use of a mobility aid, health issues to consider. Gentle - beginner level, very low impact, low cardio intensity, rehabilitative fitness, some classes may require medical clearance. Perhaps the use of a mobility aid, health issues to consider. Low - beginner level, new to fitness, low impact, mild cardio intensity, gentle strength training for joints. Great for those returning to fitness post injury or surgery. Vinyasa Flow & Core
Vinyasa Flow classes are lively, energetic, flowing classes sychronizing breath with movement. Build strength, flexibility and concentration. Cleanse the body and calm the mind. Each class is unique and will vary. You can expect a great cardiovascular and strength building workout combined with breath work (pranayama) and/or meditation. The classes are suitable for active beginners through to advanced students; it is recommended that students have been practicing yoga for a minimum of six months. Youth ages 13-15 are welcome to use the Fitness Centre upon completion of the Youth Training Program. The program requirements are as follows: Step 1: Complete the Par-Q+ and Code of Conduct forms. Step 2: Body Weight Training - program includes: • Learning safe movement mechanics of the youth’s own body weight • Introduction to resistance equipment such as resistance bands, stability balls, BOSU’s, skipping ropes, and cardio machines. • Safe stretches • This program is to be followed for a minimum of 6-8 weeks before moving on to the next program. Step 3: Strength Training with Machines – program includes: • Youth to demonstrate a few exercises from their body weight program to ensure Youth has comprehended, adapted and is practicing safe exercise technique. • Introduction to the strength training machines. • Safe stretches. Body Composition Testing
When you are beginning a new training program it can be helpful to complete fitness tests to help determine your current health status and physical fitness level. These tests help provide some baseline measurements that can be monitored to gauge progress and exercise success. Adult Programs General Interest Marine Radio Course
This course teaches emergency radio procedures as well as everyday operating techniques for you and your family with a focus primarily on VHF radios commonly used on pleasure craft. You will study the use of Digital Selective Calling (DSC) to take advantage of the many features and capabilities of your marine radio. The course prepares you for the Restricted Operator Certificate (Maritime) with DSC endorsement examination which is included in the course. This is an intensive one day course and pre-course home study and learning the phonetic alphabet is required prior to attendance so students are well prepared. How to Paint Realistic Waterfalls
In this workshop, you will learn different techniques using the style of Johan Messly to create bright and colourful, but soft paintings, with oils and acrylics. The techniques that you learn can then be applied to your own style of painting. Everything in this workshop is included, canvas paint, step by step instructions, etc., just bring lunch and at the end of the day you will take home a beautiful painting ready to frame and hang! This colourful 64 page journal, with some altered pages, is a fun, straight forward project to make. We will “tear” down the large paper into a usable page size, and then sew the cover and pages together using a French lace sewing style. The book, measuring 5” wide by 6 ½” tall, is sturdy yet flexible, colourful and most enjoyable to fill. A decorative button is often sewn on the front cover for decoration. After the book is assembled, pages can be altered if desired, just another feature that adds appeal and mystery to this journal. Drawing Book using Coptic and French Lace Stitching
Your journal will be constructed from book boards, covered with beautiful decorative paper. The book will be sewn together using waxed linen thread and historical coptic and kettle stitching, as well as a French lace stitching. Both of these styles are beautiful and very strong. Playful Letters
Over four weeks, enjoy making beautiful letters that will enhance any card, envelope, document, poster and art piece. Using a fine liner, we will learn several distinctive monoline alphabets that are easy to make and look fine on the page. As well, we will explore a few large, playful alphabets that will make our work most appealing. Enjoy some contemporary lettering in a relaxed atmosphere. Cancellations
The Town of Ladysmith reserves the right to cancel or alter rentals should conditions arise that necessitate scheduling changes. In the event if any strike or lockout, the Town of Ladysmith will not be held responsible or liable for providing said facility.
Refunds
The Licensee will notify the Town of Ladysmith Department of Parks, Recreation and Culture of Cancellation at least 72 hours prior to the event; otherwise the Licensee will be required to pay the full amount of the rental fee.
