very bride wants to look great on her wedding day, and feeling great is just as important! Feelings of love and excitement lend to that radiant bridal glow, but stress leading up to the big day can take a toll on the body and skin. Stress can affect hormonal balance, which may lead to pesky breakouts or imbalances of oily or overly dry skin. Saimaa Miller, naturopath and founder of The Last Resort has devised intensive pre-nuptial plans for feeling healthy and for your skin’s smoothest, most radiant glow skin yet.
TIP 1 - Diet & Exercise According to Miller, a healthy and clean diet needs to be on top of your priorities leading up to the big day. Her clients preparing for their wedding day are often put on a strict diet to cleanse and feel great. “The diet I put brides-to-be on is strict, but really affective: no caffeine, alcohol, sugar, dairy, and no processed foods.” This type of diet may feel restrictive, but there are plenty of things you can have. • Eat loads of vegetables as they are high in fiber, help circulation, support skin’s elasticity and give you the antioxidants to kill free radicals in the body for that feelgood factor. • Drink lots of water. Most experts recommend 2-3 liters of water a day, especially if you plan to be exercising.

According to Doris Day, MD, a certified dermatologist who specializes in laser and cosmetic dermatology, getting a good night’s sleep is the best thing you can do for your skin. The secret to radiant, wedding-day skin begins from the inside out. According to Doris Day, MD, a certified dermatologist who specializes in laser and cosmetic dermatology, getting plenty of sleep is the best thing you can do for your skin. As you rest, your skin works to repair damage, creating new cells and replenishing moisture. Along with catching enough Z’s, Dr. Day has a pre-wedding routine to support your skin to glow from the inside out. STEP 1 - HYDRATE Drink plenty of water for you skin. At least 8-10, 8-ounce servings of water per day minimizes dehydration. Remember, extra caffeine requires extra water to stay hydrated. Drink at least one extra cup of water per 8 ounce of caffeinated drink. According to Rachel Nazarian, MD, a boardcertified dermatologist in New York City, studies have shown that water intake improves skin health. One study found that drinking 2.25 liters (9.5 cups) of water every day for four weeks altered skin density and thickness. Another study found increased water intake to increase blood flow to the skin, which means a healthier skin appearance. “I’ve found that water makes a big difference in skin health,” says Nazarian. “Without adequate water intake, skin appears duller, and wrinkles and pores appear more prominent.” When skin is hydrated, plump and elastic, it’s less likely to crack and
let in external particles, which can cause irritations and break outs. Just remember, hydrating skin from the inside out doesn’t excuse skipping cleansing and moisturizing in your daily skin routine. STEP 2 - SLEEP WITH CLEAN SKIN Never - and we mean never - go to bed without removing your makeup. On those nights when you have spent all of your energy tackling wedding plans, gown fittings and you are just too lazy to actually wash your face, take a minute and use a cleansing wipe to remove dirt, oil, and makeup. “Beyond clogging pores, which causes breakouts, sleeping with makeup can also lead to wrinkles later on”, says Dr. Day. Taking that extra minute to wash off residue from the day can be a big step toward getting that weddingday glow. STEP 3 - CREATE A ROUTINE Establish a nightly skin care routine, using quality products and stick to it - especially before your wedding. Dr. Day breaks down her go-to daily regimen: cleanse your skin with an all cotton cloth or cotton balls, apply toner according to your skin type, use an overnight repair treatment, and finish it off with a super-moisturizing night cream. Stay faithful to your ritual every night for a few weeks to see the best results.

After all, it’s your left hand’s time to shine! To prevent unwanted breakage or overly dry skin, take extra care of your hands leading up to the wedding such as wearing gloves. When getting crafty, gardening, doing housework and anything that may hinder a polished looking manicure, it’s important to keep your nails covered. Not only will gloves keep your skin soft and prevent breakage, they will encourage healthy nail growth too. Remember, your diet also plays a big part in nail health, so be sure to drink plenty of water and include enough protein and good oils in your diet. What type of manicure is best for you on the big day? Are you a seasoned pro, or will this be your first time getting manicure? If venturing out for your first time right before the big day, it is a good idea to have at least one trial run at the nail salon. The costumers drew inspiration from the 19th century and the 1950s to re-imagine the looks of each character. Powell designed clothing after Ella’s good nature and pure heart, which captivated the attention of Prince Charming over all other women in the land. Portraying this character was an important detail to Powell, which empowered the vision of wardrobe decisons. Built in 1914, the Pittock Mansion tells a story of one of Oregon’s first and most influential families, Henry and Georgiana Pittock, who built the home. Craftsman and artisans used Northwest materials to build the house. The final estate included the mansion, three car garage, greenhouse and italianate gate lodge for servants. Fourty six acres of land, setting nearly 1,000 feet above downtown Portland, host the magnificant structure.

hen finding the perfect place to hold your party, look for the sort of place that parallels the overall theme. If you are after a cozy, laidback and rustic environment, try a homey cabin in the woods for a more intimate adventure, or possibly a quaint coffee shop like we found. How do you select the theme for a styled bachelor party? The first step to planning a styled bachelor party is to pick a theme suited to the groom’s personality. Is he the laid-back type? A coffee connoisseur, or a craft brew drinker? Possibly a sports enthusiast? Either way, the most important thing is that the theme coincide with the type of people who will be a part of the celebration; and most importantly, it should fit the personality of the guest of honor: the groom.
How do you select the right venue for your themed Bachelor Party? When selecting the right venue for the event, keep in mind the size of the group and how much parking you will need. What is the general feel of the location? For a laid-back barbecue with ribs and brew, a backyard gathering may work just fine. A pokerfaced game night may be hosted at a local pub. Make sure to have everyone chip in for the groom. For something upbeat and fun, consider renting the hometown bowling alley, or possibly the local baseball diamond for an old-fashioned Yankee themed soirée (or the groom’s favorite team!). Whatever theme you choose, styling the entire event around the groom and his personality will create a moment of a lifetime (and make sure to take plenty of photos!).
For our inspiration bachelor event, we decided to go traditional with a classic Stag Party. We selected a coffee bar for an intimate gathering and rustic décor. After picking your theme, decide how you will style the event. Make a list of possible props, décor, food, desserts, drinks and wardrobe ideas. Will you have friends help with food or select a caterer? Does the place provide drinks? TIP: Have guests arrive decked out in wardrobe coordinating with the theme. We’ve put together a few ideas and inspire your quest to create the perfect Bachelor Party. After we selected a classic Stag Party theme, we decided to create a masculine dessert buffet to display with cigars and an assortment of whiskey. The idea was to keep the dessert color palette dark and the flavors oh-sodelicious. We had the cake designer create recipes utilizing dark chocolates, drizzling caramel and bourbon glaze. The results were amazing. Not to mention the delicious coffee drinks! How do you select desserts to align with your party theme? • Get a bakery to create some alcohol-themed desserts. It’s a unique way to incorporate sweets into your party, while maintaining a fun and festive, yet masculine theme. • Find the groom’s favorite brand of whiskey and have that present at the party. • Make sure you have some quality cigars. There’s nothing like the smoky taste of a cigar

H OW- T O C R EATE A DESSERT BAR Taking the time to select themed desserts to display is easier than you think. An experienced cake decorator can help select recipes to include.
What type of cake should be included? When selecting the cake for a bachelor party, it isn’t necessary to stick to the tried-and-true oversized sheet cake to impress guests. Venturing out to non-traditional, elegant cakes is so much more exciting, and interesting! We recommend finding a local cake designer to help you select a cake that experiments with flavor and design. Our Almond Blood-Orange Cream Whiskey Caramel cake, was equally delicious as good looking. And proved that creating a unique cake for the guys can be a whole lot of fun for everyone!
How large of a cake is needed for guests? The experts say one 8-inch, round cake serves 24 guests. If you are considering a multi-layered cake, it may actually go further. If you are planning a full dessert bar with multiple cakes, mini cakes, pies, individual desserts and tarts, calculate the number of guests and multiply by 2 or 3. It is important to discuss with the bakeshop how many guests will be attending the event and how many servings per person you would like to accommodate.
How should we plan to get the desserts to the event location? Whether you are hosting the event at a venue or friend’s home, the bakeshop should be willing to deliver. When placing the order, it is important to discuss how the cakes and other desserts will arrive. Will you or someone in the planning group be picking up? If so, what is required to prop items to keep them from adjusting during delivery. Will you be required to set up the displays, or is the bakeshop accustomed to setting up each dessert on appropriate staging pieces such as cake stands or other items? Communication about delivery and staging prior to the event will minimize confusion.
