Introduction The Evolution of the Coca-Cola Bottle Design is split in two parts. The first part explores the changes in the iconic contour bottle shape of the most famous soft drink in the world, Coca-Cola. From straight to curvy and from glass to plastics. The rest of the book takes a look at some of the commemorative bottles from around the world. The special

edition bottles come together as a unique, colourful and creative collection of some of the finest packaging design. With subjects such as film and television, fashion and culture, the designers have strongly represented these using theme colours and relative imagery. I placed images next to each bottle that I feel share similar themes, colours or attributes.

The first design of the bottle to take shape. Conventional, flat bottles with a cork.

The more familiar shape of today. Curvy with a metal cap. 200 ml bottle

With the introduction of the new 2 liter PET plastic bottles in 1978, Coca-Cola later went on to lead the industry in the global use of recycled content PET plastic bottles. The plastic bottles meant it was more durable, lightweight, resealable and recyclable, which is why it is still popular today.

Designer Harc Lee has created this new “naked CocaCola can which is created without using any paints or dyes. It is designed to greatly reduce pollution and energy use associated with producing and recycling soda cans. It is not official whether Coca-Cola will use this new look but for evironmental friendly reasons, it should definitely be considered.
