Children’s & Youth Programs Progressive Tennis for Kids

Wednesdays Various Times Ages 6-15

Location Woodsdale Tennis Courts

Instructor Marnie Perrier

This learn to play program identifies 4 skill sets required to play tennis successfully. These are called the “I Can” skill sets. Progressive Tennis uses a system of modified courts, racquets and balls scaled to maximize learning for different levels and/or age groups. Just like many other sports, scaling the game down to the size of the child speeds up the learning process and makes the game more fun. All you need to bring is your own racquet, running shoes (no sandals), & water bottle. Loaner racquets are available if required. Three levels are offered.

Red Ball (For ages 6+) Introduces the foundational skills of tennis with an oversized low-compression ball on a smaller court. Players learn basic rally, serve and net play skills along with activities that build tennis-specific coordination. Rules of play and good sport behaviours introduced.

Orange Ball (For ages 8+) with a low-compression ball. Players learn how to serve, rally, score and play at the net.

Green Ball (For ages 10+) transition ball. Green players may be older children who are new to tennis or players of a good standard who have progressed through the Red & Orange stages.
