In other cases, Lakehead has specific pathways for a particular diploma programs offered by specific colleges (i.e. bilateral agreements). Refer to the “Agreements with Specific Colleges” section on pages 15-17 for more information.

HOW DOES TRANSFER CREDIT WORK?

FOR COLLEGE GRADUATES WITH A DIPLOMA*:

Three-Year Diploma*: For a three-year diploma, with a 70% or better cumulative average, or a 70% average in the last year of the program, up to 7.5 full course equivalents may be awarded. In exceptional cases, an additional 2 full course equivalents may be awarded.

Two-Year Diploma*: For a two-year diploma, with a 70% or better cumulative average, or a 70% average in the last year of the program, up to 5 full course equivalents may be awarded.

One-Year Certificate (excluding upgrading programs): For a one-year certificate, with a 70% or better cumulative average, up to 2 full course equivalents may be awarded.

FOR COLLEGE STUDENTS WHO PARTIALLY COMPLETED A DIPLOMA:

Partially Completed Three-Year Diploma: For a three-year diploma where only two full years have been completed, with a 70% cumulative average, or 70% average in the last year of the program, a maximum of 5 full course equivalents may be awarded.

Partially Completed Two-Year Diploma: For a two-year diploma where only one full year has been completed, with a 70% cumulative average, or 70% average in the last year of the program, a maximum of 2 full course equivalents may be awarded.

FOR BOTH COLLEGE GRADUATES AND COLLEGE STUDENTS WHO PARTIALLY COMPLETED A DIPLOMA:

A minimum grade of 70% must be achieved in diploma courses in order for transfer credit to be considered.

Transfer credit is granted according to appropriateness of the college program, admission requirements, and academic achievement in relevant courses. Specific courses for transfer credit will be determined on an individual basis. For some programs, the transfer credits may be unspecified credits that can be used towards fulfilling elective requirements.

The amount of transfer credit received depends on a number of factors, including: final grades, course content, credit hours, as well as the program applied to at Lakehead University. Lastly, you must satisfy your program’s residency requirement. In most cases, you have to complete at least the last year of your degree at Lakehead.
