Your Frequency of Giving Changes Lives

I WANT TO SAY THANK YOU [TO ALL OF THE DONORS] FOR GIVING ME AND COUNTLESS OTHER STUDENTS THE CHANCE TO PURSUE WHAT WE WANT TO DO FOR THE REST OF OUR LIVES.

-REMLINGER

Konner Remlinger of Martinsville received the Lake Land College Larry & Brenda Blackerby Radio-TV Broadcasting Scholarship, which is awarded to students majoring in broadcasting.

Donors Larry and Brenda Blackerby are alumni who met while attending classes at Lake Land College. Larry Blackerby went on to pursue a distinguished career in broadcast management at several major markets throughout the country and is now a member of the Lake Land College Foundation Board of Directors and Brenda’s career in Radio Sales Management spanned more than two decades.

Remlinger said the affordability and availability of scholarships, in addition to the locality of the school, were some of the reasons he chose to attend Lake Land.

“To all of the donors who make these scholarships possible, I want to say thank you for giving me and countless other students the chance to pursue what we want to do for the rest of our lives,” Remlinger said. Having worked in radio since high school, Remlinger said he enrolled in the Broadcast Communication program to develop the skills he will need to enter the workforce as a radio personality after graduating.

“Radio is a very local thing,” Remlinger said. “It lets me get involved in the community a lot, which I really like. At Lake Land, the instructors get to know the students because of the small class sizes, so I can get the hands-on, on-air experience I’ll need in my career.”

In addition to being involved with the Lake Land College radio station WLKL, Remlinger has taken part in several groups and activities on campus.

“When I look back on my time at Lake Land, I want to remember being a part of the school,” Remlinger said. “Participating and engaging is really important to me.”
