ALUMNA PROVIDES CARE & BUILDS RELATIONSHIPS
Dr. Abbie Massengill has overcome several challenges on her path to success, such as beginning her practice amid the coronavirus, and she is now an obstetrics & gynecology specialist at Effingham Obstetrics & Gynecology Associates. In this position, Massengill said she firmly believes OBGYN is the best form of medicine.
“I love my work,” Massengill said. “I love getting to see the same people over time, developing relationships with them and providing continuity of care.”
Focuses of her practice include general obstetrics and gynecology, pediatric and adolescent gynecology, office procedures, ultrasound in medicine, minimally invasive surgery and robotic surgery.
After graduating from the Pre-Medicine program at Lake Land College, Massengill continued her education at Eastern Illinois University, University of Illinois and Southern Illinois University.
“Lake Land was a big defining moment for me,” she said. “I hadn’t decided between regularmedicine or veterinary medicine, and I was able to explore both at Lake Land to help me decide.”
Throughout her time at Lake Land, Massengill said she met several friends she still keeps in touch with.
“It’s really important to branch out on meeting new people in college,” Massengill said. “Of course keep your friends close, but make sure to meet the new people you may not have had the opportunity to otherwise.”
For those considering a medical profession, Massengill said she often advises others to begin their college career at Lake Land.
“The education you receive will be just as good as, if not better than, a university,” Massengill said. “I have several instructors at Lake Land that I still know and care about. It’s a good transition for easing out of your comfort zone, and it has a great community feel. You can really tell that everyone at Lake Land cares.“
