RETURNING TO CAMPUS COVID-19 Lakeland Orientation For Employees Updated Dec. 17, 2020

TAKE THE LEAD You play a critical role in stopping the spread of COVID-19. By following our health and safety guidelines you protect yourself and others. Information from Alberta Health Services and Saskatchewan Health Authority was referenced to develop our guidelines.

RETURNING TO CAMPUS The health and safety of our Lakeland community is our top priority as work and classes resume on campus. Work that can be done remotely should be. The number of employees required to be on campus to provide essential services will be determined by the department’s dean or director.

For those working on campus, it's important to understand the hazard/risk and proper controls to protect you, your colleagues and your family from the virus.

• Health hazards and symptoms of COVID-19 • Responsibilities of Lakeland community members

• Reducing risk through control measures • Rapid response protocols • Links to external resources

RISK MITIGATION PROCESS Each academic school and department should complete the following steps detailed in Health and Safety Risk Mitigation Planning: •

Review COVID-19 Re-Entry Guide and office and classroom safety procedures

Follow the Health and Safety Risk Mitigation Planning guide

Complete and submit the People/Space Management checklist and, if applicable, the Task Hazard Assessment

SCREENING & PREVENTION Before leaving for campus, all employees are required to complete the Daily Assessment found at lakelandcollege.ca/covid19, and the Lakeland College and Lakeland Safe apps.

Anyone who answers yes to any question on the daily assessment: • Must not come to campus • Must complete the Alberta Health Services selfassessment or Saskatchewan Health Authority self-assessment • Must let their supervisor know the recommendations The supervisor will let Lakeland’s Health Services department know the results of the self-assessment.

IF SYMPTOMATIC WHILE ON CAMPUS If, while on campus, you become symptomatic:

Stay in your office, shut the door, wear a mask and inform your supervisor

Your supervisor will inform the applicable dean/director and Lakeland’s Health Services coordinator

Once directed to do so, leave the building via an isolated route to minimize exposure and go directly to your home

Complete the Alberta Health Services self-assessment or Saskatchewan Health Authority self-assessment

Let your supervisor and Health Services know the recommendations

Facilities will be notified by Health Services to clean all common areas that you may have come in contact with and disinfect your office

KEY MEASURES TO REDUCE THE SPREAD 1.Physical distancing

2.Hand washing 3.Increased cleaning and sanitation 4. Properly wearing a 3-ply face covering

PHYSICAL DISTANCING We can accomplish this by: • Staying 2 metres apart • Following signage cues

• Avoiding common greetings, such as handshakes • Reducing the number of people in rooms and buildings • Allowing specific people to work on campus while others continue to work remotely Reduced occupancy can be met by scheduling fewer staff to be on campus at one time. Wherever possible, work must continue to be done remotely.

HAND HYGIENE Hand hygiene helps prevent the spread of the disease. • Wash your hands often with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds • If hand washing station is not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer (minimum 60% alcohol) • Avoid touching your face

HAND SANITIZER Hand sanitizer stations are located in classrooms, at all identified points of entry and exits to buildings, and strategically throughout campus. Sanitizer is not a substitute for hand washing in labs with biological, chemical or radiation hazards, or where your hands could become soiled by dirt or other debris.

CLEANING & DISINFECTING A plan is in place for enhanced cleaning and disinfection by our caretaking team of high-traffic areas and high-touch surfaces at Lakeland. Disinfect your work area with disinfectant wipes upon arriving and when leaving. This includes high touch areas such as keyboard, desk, phone, and door handle. After each in-person appointment, wipe all high touch areas. Lakeland will ensure ongoing supplies of disinfectants and wipes. Remove all communal items that cannot be easily cleaned, such as newspapers and magazines. Read the Office Procedure for more details.

3-PLY FACE COVERING (NON-MEDICAL) 3-ply face coverings are required when inside a campus building unless you are alone in your office. They must also be worn outside when physical distancing isn’t possible.

Face coverings must be worn properly to be effective. * Recreation facilities and Residence have specific guidelines

Guidelines change often. See the face coverings tile at lakelandcollege.ca/covid19 for current info.

LET’S RECAP… If you can work remotely, please do so. Discuss this with your supervisor. If you will be on campus, familiarize yourself with the proper controls to protect yourself, your co-workers and your family. Do not come to campus if you are ill. •

Stay 2 metres apart

Wash your hands frequently

Wear a 3-ply face covering (non-medical) indoors

Use hand sanitizer when washing is not available

Review the COVID-19 Re-Entry Guide and other resources found at lakelandcollege.ca/covid19

Complete the Daily Assessment online before you arrive on campus

Any yes answers will require an Alberta Health Services or Saskatchewan Health Authority SelfAssessment. Let your supervisor know the results and recommendations.

Supervisors will let Lakeland Health Services know

If you become ill at work, isolate yourself, let your supervisor and Health Services know. They will help you determine the next steps to safely leave the building with minimal exposure to others.

4 KEY POINTS • Before leaving for campus, complete the Daily Assessment • Stay 2 metres from others • Regularly clean and disinfect your work area • Wear a 3-ply face covering indoors • Wear a 3-ply face covering outdoors if physical distancing isn’t possible

Remember – guidelines do change. Visit lakelandcollege.ca/covid19 for updates.
