Lake Norman nature trails are closer than you might think

Area residents love the access to the many greenways because you can choose your preferred way to enjoy them, whether it’s through walking, running or biking, you can enjoy nature solo or with others.

Jetton Park

Jetton is a waterfront park located in Cornelius, and a great option for you and your family, featuring a 1.3-mile bike trail, 1.5-mile hiking trail, a formal garden and even a beach area (although swimming is not permitted).

Ramsey Creek Park

Ramsey Creek located in Cornelius has 1.5 miles of walking and nature trails that are perfect for you and your pets. This waterfront park also has a dog park, fishing pier, picnic shelters, a swimming beach and more.

Latta Nature Preserve

The natural place to be when in Huntersville – some of the amenities include canoe launch access, 18 miles of hiking trails and horseback riding trails. You will also find the Carolina Raptor Center and Quest, the future home of the Raptor Trail that also features a 4,000-square-foot exhibit hall.

Robbins Park

An eight-acre area in Cornelius featuring a custom-built, nature-themed playground, a multi-purpose field, one mile of paved walkways and almost two miles of nature trails. The McDowell Creek Greenway connects Robbins Park to the Birkdale Village shopping and entertainment area. The 1.5-mile trail offers a green oasis for town dwellers and excellent access to retail, office and residential areas.

Lake Norman area greenways include: Torrence Creek Greenway in Huntersville runs 1.4 miles through woods, meadows and behind neighborhoods off Gilead Road.

• Davidson Greenway, with a paved six-mile path.

• The Antiquity Greenway in Cornelius is a .6-mile trail connecting North Zion Avenue to the South Prong Rocky River Greenway in Davidson. This is one piece of the Emerald Necklace Greenway joining Cornelius, Davidson and Huntersville.

• Many of the area’s greenways are part of the Carolina Thread Trail – 22 miles of the planned 260 miles of the thread trail run through the Lake Norman area.

North Meck Park

North Meck Park, located in Huntersville, has a 3.5-mile mountain bike trail which is great for beginners, intermediate riders, and families. This is a multi-use trail, so watch out for hikers!

Fisher Farm Park

Fisher Farm Park, located in Davidson, is another great option no matter your experience level. As you pass through a peculiar rocky road, just continue straight until you stumble upon a parking lot that overlooks a field of green. From there you can walk down to a few trails to choose from. A beginner loop, three intermediate loops, and four advanced loops, the 7.7-mile trail is a beautiful place to get some nice and quiet exercise while soaking in endless views of greenery on either side of you.
