School band marches into Pasco history

By Brian Fernandes bfernandes@lakerlutznews.com

The Wiregrass Ranch High School made Pasco County history by bringing home the first place prize in Class 4A in the Florida Marching Band Championships, on Nov. 23. The Marching Bulls became 4A Grand Champions at the competition, at Daytona Beach. The school also won best color guard in its class, as well. Josh Hobbs is the school’s band director

and Alexander Kopp is the band’s drum major. Both were instrumental in the marching band’s success. “It’s all about focus,” said Kopp, a junior at Wiregrass Ranch.“That’s what we always preach to everyone.” Being a part of the 135-member band, which includes the color guard team and musicians, requires practicing three days to four days a week. Beyond competing at band competitions

across the country, the marching band also supports the high school’s football team at games. Competing at various events requires fundraising, which the band does through the sale of items on its website, carwashes and partnering with local restaurants. During the holidays, band members collect donations in exchange for wrapping gifts at the Barnes & Noble bookstore. See BAND, page 15A

During a recent evening at The Shops at Wiregrass, the Wiregrass Express takes passengers for a leisurely cruise down Paseo Drive at sunset. The train is being driven by engineer David Waite, of Wesley Chapel, who has worked at The Shops for three years. The retired banker said that his job is fun because he likes to put a smile on the face of everyone riding the train.

Twelve-year-old singer Larkin Mainwaring’s performance of ‘Silent Night,’ captivated the audience at The Shops at Wiregrass. The singer, from Dade City, was performing as part of the Graham Music Studios’ holiday show at the Wesley Chapel regional mall.

Event honors 78th Sunlake student anniversary of Pearl Harbor named Pasco’s ‘Outstanding Senior’

By Kevin Weiss

kweiss@lakerlutznews.com

It was 78 years ago — Dec. 7, 1941 — when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, killing nearly 2,500 Americans and wounding 1,000 others. The attack precipitated the entry of the United States into World War II and, as years pass, those associated with the Zephyrhills Museum of Military History believe it’s even more critical to share and preserve the stories of the fateful day. “We can’t let people forget about it,” longtime museum volunteer Dan Evans said. “It’s just too important what happened in our own history, what happened in the world’s history. “War is a horrible thing — a lot of people die. But, you want people to remember it because you don’t want that to happen anymore.”

To help keep the memory alive, every year since 2012, the museum has organized a Pearl Harbor Commemoration Day, at 39444 South Ave. The Dec. 7 daylong event featured World War II men and women reenactors, as well as more than a dozen displays of World War II military vehicles and aircraft, including half-tracks and C-47B aircraft, all brought in by dedicated military collectors. The biggest attraction, however, was the appearance of two Pearl Harbor veteran survivors — 98-year-old Ed Socha and 96-year-old Charles McClelland. Socha was on the U.S.S. Maryland that was struck by two armor-piercing bombs, and McClelland on the U.S.S Helena when it was hit by torpedo and bomb fragments. Socha, who lives in Sun City, went on to serve in the military for 30 years, working See EVENT, page 15A

Whether its focusing on rigorous academics or taking part in extracurriculars and church activities, Sunlake High’s Alexis Paredes enjoys being busy. Actually,“having so much to do” is how the 17-year-old senior thrives best. “I like to keep moving. I know if I don’t, I’ll get bored,” she said. It’s that self-starter mindset that earned Paredes the Pasco County School District’s 2019-2020 Outstanding Senior Award. The annual honor is bestowed based on academic record, service, leadership, citizenship, and commitment to school and See STUDENT, page 15A

Pasco County is making improvements on Bruce B. Downs Boulevard, at the intersection of State Road 54, to enhance traffic flow and safety. The county is extending the length of the farthest left-hand turning lane, to accommodate more cars waiting to turn west onto State Road 54. The county also will be adding a traffic signal at Eagleston and Bruce B. Downs boulevards. Currently, there is just a median there. There will be a left-turn lane at the intersection to enable cars heading south on Bruce B. Downs to make a U-turn to head north. The $500,000 project is a means of preventing motorists from crossing six lanes of traffic to get from one commercial plaza on the west side of Bruce B. Downs Boulevard to another commercial plaza on the east

side of the road. “The project was initiated after a safety study was performed recommending the closure of the first median opening south of SR 54/CR 54, said David Botello, of the Florida Department of Transportation. Motorists leaving the plaza at Bruce B. Downs Boulevard’s west side, now must cross six lanes in order to get into the Publix plaza, on the east side. By closing the median, this traffic would be redirected to the new signal at Eagleston, or onto State Road 54, in order to get to the Publix center. The Florida Department of Transportation is taking on the project and would close off this median. Push-button pedestrian signal detectors, countdown pedestrian signal heads, curb ramps and marked crosswalks would be installed at the intersection. The project is currently in the design phase and construction is scheduled to begin in Fall 2021.

The Laker/Lutz News Staff Report

The holidays are for giving and receiving. For some, the giving doesn’t stop with family and friends — but reaches beyond their immediate circle to help others who are less fortunate. And, for those who do need help, the holidays can be brightened through the generosity of others. Opportunities for giving are abundant across the region, and there are places to get help for those in need. Here are some of the particulars.

METROPOLITAN MINISTRIES There are three drop-off locations in Pasco County for donations: • Metropolitan Ministries Pasco, 3214 U.S. 19 N., Holiday through Dec. 24, Monday through Saturday 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sundays, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. • Keystone Community Church, Keystone Community Church, 21010 State Road 54 in Lutz, through Dec. 22, Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Sundays, noon to 3 p.m. • Calvary Assembly of God, 13544 U.S. 98 Bypass, Dade City: Dec. 13 and Dec. 14, and then Dec. 20 and Dec. 21, Friday/Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Most needed items: Frozen turkeys and hams, cereal, yams, stuffing, gift cards, teen girl and boy gifts for Christmas (age 13 to 17), and infant gifts/educational toys Recipients: Pre-registration is required to receive help. The Polar Express Pajama Party aims to make the season merrier for children — through a free daytime event that includes games, crafts and refreshments. Children, ages 10 and younger, are encouraged to wear their pjs to the Dec. 14 party, set for 10 a.m. to noon, at the Land O’ Lakes Recreation Complex, 3032 Collier Parkway in Land O’ Lakes. And, despite its reference to the Polar Express, those attending this party won’t be taking a magical adventure trip to visit Santa at the North Pole. Still, they are expected to have plenty of opportunities for fun — with arts, crafts, music, a bounce house and obstacle courses. There will be light refreshments, too, including custom-made hot chocolate, where kids can put additional sweet treats inside. Kids are asked to bring a new, un-

Nerds to Go Comes To You After 20 years in the Air Force managing data centers, followed up by 18 years working in corporate IT, Michael Varnadore was looking to be self-employed in a career in which he had a passion. He found the perfect fit with Nerds to Go, a national franchise that specializes in bringing computer and cellphone repair services to a customer’s home or business. Varnadore recently opened the company’s first franchise in Tampa. Conveniently located on Bruce B. Downs Boulevard, Nerds To Go offers repair in its shop, but specializes in its mobile service. “We have a complete work center in the back of our vans,” said Varnadore. “We take a computer to our van, pull it apart and put it back together, right at the customer’s location. We also have the Nerd Lab at our store for customers who would rather bring their electronic device to us.” In addition to desktop and laptop hardware repair services, Nerds to Go also services cellphones, tablet repair, cracked screens and specialty managed services. Its certified network computer techs can set up a computer network (server or cloudbased, hardwired or wireless), and as a partner of Baracuda Systems, offers 24/7 network monitoring of performance and security. Varnadore recommends that all computers have protection with an antivirus, antiphishing, ransomware detector, firewall program and a cloud-based backup system. Most of the problems that happen to PCs are the physical failure of the hard

drive, some type of corruption, phishing attack, encrypting ransomware, or a virus that’s gotten on the system, Varnadore explains. “With a cloud backup solution, you take all of your data to the cloud, and you’re not just backing up to a local disc, which is how people typically do things. When you’re putting your data in the cloud, your files are moved to an off-site, secure location, and if something happens to your computer, all of your data is secure and can be recovered,” said Varnadore. Though only open since August, Nerds to Go is doing very well and has received positive customer response. “Owning a Nerds to Go franchise is a great job for me, and very rewarding. Hopefully, I’ll soon be planning my second store. At the end of the day, we’re helping people and having a good time doing it,” said Varnadore. Varnadore’s success is also attributed to his high level of education in information systems. He has a master’s degree in information systems, and a doctorate in management with a specialization in information systems management. He also teaches college-level classes in cloud computing and computing fundamentals, and offers one-on-one group training on many IT topics, including MS Office products and cyber security education.

Reconstructing Hope

George Agovino and Josh Gaulden have launched a new initiative aimed at helping foster children. The pair has established the Fostering Change Foster Closet, in what was formerly a vacant house, at 10207 Land O’ Lakes Blvd., in Land O’ Lakes. The 501 (c)(3) nonprofit is a hub for foster families to pick out free necessities that they otherwise could not afford. It also will serve foster kids who have not been placed in a permanent home yet. The new organization will officially open its doors, with an event called “Reconstructing Hope,” on Dec. 14. place to provide the service. Initially, Gaulden helped Agovino get permission to place his trailer on the property where the organization is now located. Initially, however, the men did not realize there was a vacant house on the land. It had been hidden by thick brush. Frank and Joann Hedogous, the property owners, decided to donate the house and property for the organization’s cause. It has taken several months to clear out the bushes, grass and tree branches overhanging the house and to complete renovations. Gaulden and Agovino now are working to create an official website for Fostering Change Foster Closet. The organization also is raising its profile through Facebook and by word-of-mouth. It wants foster families to be aware of the service, and it wants to encourage the general public to get involved through donations. The grand opening celebration is set for Dec. 14, at the house, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The public is welcome and there is no admission charge. There will be vendors, food trucks, live music, raffles and a silent auction. Kids can enjoy a petting zoo and various games. And foster kids, specifically, will be given toys as early Christmas gifts. For more information, call (813) 421-1958, or email FosteringChangeCloset@gmail.com.

What’s Cookin’ Some gift ideas, for your favorite cook By Shari Bresin Special to The Laker/Lutz News

With holiday season in full swing, no doubt you are shopping for loved ones, friends and coworkers. If anyone on your list enjoys cooking, a kitchen item might make the perfect gift. Or, perhaps you know someone who is looking to make some healthier changes as a New Year’s goal. That means eating out less and making more meals at home. So, a beginner-level kitchen item could be a supportive gift to help them get started. There are enough kitchen items out there for anyone to enjoy, whether they are inexperienced in cooking or they’ve been making meals for years. Here are a few gift ideas: • A cookbook:Tailor it to their exact likes, needs or goals, such as vegetarian; a certain ethnic food style they want to master; or, for a specific health condition, such as diabetesfriendly recipes. • Someone looking to lose weight might enjoy a food scale. This is a great way to determine serving sizes and practice portion control. This tool can come in handy, too, for bakers. Many bakers swear that weighing ingredients with a scale is much more accurate than measuring ingredients with a measuring cup. • An herb and spice kit is another great gift. Some kits can have as many as 40 herbs and spices. For new kits, a smaller-sized basic kit would be a better starting place, so they don’t become overwhelmed by too many choices. By starting smaller, they can learn which ones are their favorites before experimenting with more exotic flavors. • Multi-purpose knives. Every chef needs some essential multi-purpose knives, such as the chef’s knife, paring knife and serrated bread knife. These knives will get almost any cutting task accomplished and are usually found together in a knife block set with a knife sharpener. • Bread maker: For those that want to “eat cleaner,” a bread maker could be a great gift idea. After all, have you seen how many ingredients are in a loaf of bread? Also, someone that wants to avoid gluten may prefer to make their own bread instead of buying the expensive gluten-free options. • Air fryer:This product is great for frying food without the fat/oil. Some have settings that lets you use it to bake, broil and roast, too. I personally just started using an air fryer. I’ve

enjoyed using it in the hotter months when I didn’t want to turn on the oven. • Spiralizer: A spiralizer can turn certain vegetables into ribbon/noodle shapes. Whether someone wants to cut back on carbs or wants to sneak in more vegetables to pasta dishes, a spiralizer is a fun way to increase vegetable intake. It can’t spiralize every vegetable, but it works on zucchini, carrots, onion, cabbage and others. • Multi-cooker/electric pressure cooker — many think of this kitchen tool by the brand name, the Instant Pot. This has been a hit all year, likely because it is so versatile. Some are even seven-in-one or nine-in-one features. It’s a pressure cooker, a slow cooker, a rice maker, a yogurt maker, steamer, cake maker and more. For the home cook that does it all but doesn’t have one of these yet, you can feel confident that this is something they will enjoy. There are also accessories that you could give, such as a steamer basket or egg rack. • Panini press grill machine. Some machines make more then paninis; they can also make quesadillas and do indoor grilling. This may be especially helpful for those who live alone because it can make an easy hot meal that doesn’t create many leftovers. When you’re out shopping, be sure to keep in mind the recipient’s kitchen space. If he or she has a small kitchen, steer clear of large, bulky items. The gift should fit not only your budget, but also the recipient’s lifestyle and living arrangements. There are many gadgets out there to make cooking easier and more enjoyable, and you can help your family and friends find items that work for them. Happy shopping, and happy holidays! Inspiration found in the city, and the hills By Mary Rathman mrathman@lakerlutznews.com

As a member of Life Church in Wesley Chapel, Demene Benjamin embarked on a nine-day missionary trip with Life Church and Life Church International to Guatemala and El Salvador, in November. The mission was a passionate drive to give hope by sharing the love of Jesus, and to inspire change, said Benjamin, who is manager of CMX Cinemas, at The Grove at Wesley Chapel. In Guatemala, alongside Pastor Luis Pedro Solares, the team visited with an orphanage in the mountains — providing education and meals, as well as life skills to moms in the community. There was also the opportunity to learn both Spanish and English. It was here that one of Benjamin’s teammates took polaroid photos of the kids, who were amazed to see themselves in a picture taken by a camera. In El Salvador, the team found more laborious work, but also an unconditional love for the city. Life Church partnered with Pastor Paco Rosales on sharing and

fore the end of the year and will provide the community with free, clean water. The group also served inside an El Salvador church, serving the elders and adding fresh paint to the sanctuary. Along the way, Benjamin said she found two countries connected in love.

“It was an overwhelming and majestic trip,” she said, and inspired her to seek more opportunities to demonstrate unconditional love. For information about the church missions, call Natalie Dougherty at (813) 973-2230.

FOUNDATION RAISES MORE THAN $400,000

A sold-out event, Southern State of Kind, raised more than $400,000 to benefit cancer patients in need through the Florida Cancer Specialists Foundation. The fundraiser featured a silent auction, chance drawings, dinner entertainment, music by JT Curtis and the Scoundrels, line dancing, and southern fare. During the event, the Florida Cancer Specialists gave recognition to Justin Doyle, founder of the Hope, Health & Sunshine Foundation, a nonprofit organization that assists cancer patients in the Tampa Bay area with groceries, gas cards, healthy snacks and patient gift bags. For the past three years, Doyle has provided Thanksgiving dinners for patients, too. The net proceeds from the event will directly benefit the Florida Cancer Specialists Foundation, which provides financial assistance for nonmedical living expenses to qualified cancer patients who are currently undergoing treatment in Florida. The event was co-chaired by Florida Cancer Specialists, and Dr. R. Waide Weaver and Dr. David D.Wright.

STUDENT, from page 1A community. Students considered for the award are nominated by the student body, principals, faculty and staff. Nominees from each of the 16 Pasco County high schools then are interviewed by a panel of Pasco County Schools district employees and community members who ultimately narrow the selection to one student to represent the school system. Paredes marks the second Sunlake student to win the honor in as many years, joining Jillian Gordy who won the district’s 2018-2019 Outstanding Senior Award. Paredes was humbled to win the prestigious countywide honor. “I wasn’t expecting it. I wasn’t even expected to get outstanding senior for my school, much less district,” she said. “I still can’t believe that I beat the ‘best of the best.’” Her resume, though, indicates she’s deserving. She maintains a 4.4 weighted grade point average while taking multiple Advanced Placement classes. She is a representative in the school’s student council, secretary of the school’s National Honor Society Chapter, and a member of a youth leadership at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church, in Land O’ Lakes. Yet, her involvement in the school’s Junior State of America (JSA) chapter is what she considers her “biggest accomplishment” and the one that makes her most proud. The nationwide organization labels itself as a nonpartisan debate and activism club. Paredes serves as the school’s JSA club president and also holds the title of the organization’s chapter internal affairs agent for the Southeast region, where she keeps tabs on other JSA chapter presidents throughout Florida,Alabama, Mississippi, South Carolina and Georgia. She summed up the role like this: “Basically, I get to contact different chapter presidents and make sure their chapters are running efficiently and giving them advice on how to run their chapter, how to structure a meeting, how to build fundraisers.” Paredes, a JSA member since her freshman year, said the club is “something I’m really passionate about, because I’m very much for activism and fighting political apathy.” She also noted that JSA is “a great avenue to talk about politics, to talk to kids my age that may not agree with me, but may agree with me as well, and try to see a compromise or unity.” Along with that, Paredes is spearheading a daylong convention in January that will bring together up to 300 students from other JSA clubs throughout the Tampa Bay area, to debate such issues like gun control, capital punishment, reparations for slavery, mandatory vaccinations in public schools, merits of the Electoral College, and more. The event’s keynote speaker is former Florida Supreme Court Justice Kenneth Bell.

COURTESY OF PASCO COUNTY SCHOOLS

Sunlake High School senior Alexis Paredes has been awarded Pasco County School District’s 2019-2020 Outstanding Senior Award.

Paredes has dreamed of organizing such a convention “since probably my sophomore year. We’re going to have a bunch of kids come and debate…and just share in the spirit of democracy,” she said. The Sunlake senior has other big plans ahead, too. In the fall, she will be attending the University of Chicago on a full-ride academic scholarship. She plans to major in political science, then attend law school with hopes of someday going into politics and becoming a policymaker. Paredes chose the out-of-state university “because it’s obviously a prestigious school, but at the same time, it’s a little more modern than Ivy League schools like Harvard and Yale.” The school’s bevy of music concerts and location in the heart of the Windy City were some other major selling points, she said. Besides her own drive and motivation to be successful, Paredes credited her mother and grandmother as being big influences, as well as some “amazing” teachers at Sunlake. She said the classes she’s gotten the most out of are social studies classes at Sunlake, such as AP Human Geography and U.S. History. Those types of subjects, she said, taught her “a lot of life lessons.” She quipped: “You wouldn’t think the Compromise of 1850 would be relevant to a 17-year-old in 2019, but I found learning about history teaches me about the present as well…” As the senior gears up for her final semester at Sunlake, she’s already looking back fondly on her many memories on campus. The amount of school spirit that radiates among the student body and faculty stands out, in particular, she said. “Something I’ll definitely miss is the community, like the sense of unity our school has,” Paredes said.“If you go to our football games, we’re always riled up.We’re screaming cheers. We have a great sense of community spirit.” She added:“I feel like our clubs are pretty solid, too, so if you’re joining a club, you don’t feel like it’s useless. You feel like the kids want to be there, the sponsors want to be there.”

BAND, from page 1A To get to state finals, marching bands must compete at the regional level first. If they make it to state, they compete in the semifinal round before moving to the finals. The Marching Bulls were among the top five semifinalists, propelling them closer to a victory. Senior Kurt Smith, the Bulls’ band captain, said the judges are meticulous. They focus on precision, quality of music and visual performances. It was that analysis that led to the Bulls earning a banner, trophy and gold medallions. Kopp and Smith both began their band experience during middle school. “In middle school, I picked up guitar,” Kopp said.“I saw in eighth grade that there’s a band program at our middle school, so I jumped in there.” Smith on the other hand started off playing the trumpet and later began practicing the French horn. However, it was his transition into the Wiregrass Ranch High marching band that made a big impact on him, the 18-year-old recalled. “I met so many great people in my freshman year, when I first did it,” Smith said.“I really wanted to be like them. They were great leaders.” Now, he has had the opportunity to continue that kind of leadership. When the team reaches the competition venue, they may have several additional

Honoring those who have gone before By B.C. Manion bcmanion@lakerlutznews.com

hen Vernon Wynn looks across U.S. 41, he can see the final resting place of dozens of his relatives.

They’re among the roughly 1,600 people buried in Lutz Cemetery, at the corner of U.S. 41 and Fifth Ave., N .E. The cemetery was established in 1911, and the first person buried there is known only as Mr. Nims, according to local historians. His grave marker is gone, but he is believed to have been buried there in 1914. The plot of land offers a look into the community’s past, with generations of families buried there, and hundreds of veterans, too. Some grave markers offer a spiritual message: “The Lord is my shepherd,” and “Thy will be done” and,“Every day is a gift from God. Share it with someone else.” Another states simply:“Gone, but not forgotten.” Some laid to rest there are widely known throughout Lutz. Oscar Cooler, for instance, was a champion for youth sports, and there’s a sports complex named for him on Lutz Lake Fern Road. Carolyn Meeker, former president of the Lutz Civic Association, is buried there, too. She was tenacious at Hillsborough County zoning hearings, taking on anyone who threatened to change the character of Lutz. Ralph Combs, the very first Eagle Scout from Troop 12, is laid to rest there, too, Wynn said. Wynn, who is president of the Lutz Cemetery Association, has deep roots in Lutz. “My grandparents came here in 1920,” he said.“Where I live now, is where I was born and raised.” And, it’s because of that affinity for the community that Wynn decided to take an active role in the cemetery association. The group wants to ensure that the grounds are well-kept, into perpetuity. Wynn said their aim is: “To make sure that everything is going to be good for the community.” “It’s paying respect to the people buried there,” said Kathy Vanater, the cemetery association’s secretary/treasurer. Land for the cemetery was donated to the community, more than a century ago, by C.E. Thomas, who was president of the North Tampa Land Company, according to accounts published in The Tampa Tribune and other local publications. The company was made up of a group of Chicago landowners who bought about 32,000 acres, north of the city of Tampa. The original cemetery plot was 230 feet by 80 feet, according to “Citrus, Sawmills, Critters, Crackers …,” a local history book by Elizabeth Riegler MacManus and her daughter, Susan A. MacManus. Over time, the cemetery has expanded. “The folks in the community used to take care of the grounds,”Vanater said. Indeed, according to the MacManus book, when area residents gathered to clean up the cemetery, men would come with hoses and rakes, and women would pack a picnic lunch. But, by the mid-1950s, the volunteer cleanups had dwindled. “So, the Lutz Cemetery Association formed in 1956,”Vanater said. For decades, the organization was lowkey. In recent years, though, a more active group of volunteers has stepped up — completing needed repairs, maintaining the grounds and making plans for its future upkeep. Dead trees have been removed. The utility shed has a new roof. A replica of the original archway has been erected, and there’s now a cemetery sign. Over the years, most of the cemetery plots have been sold, said Vanater, a banker, by profession. But, when those plots were sold, the sales weren’t accompanied by perpetual maintenance plans, and now there

Columbariums For those interested in having Lutz as their final resting place, there’s another option available. The Lutz Cemetery Association has added a columbarium that has 64 niches. The new option provides a source of revenue needed to continue the upkeep of the cemetery grounds, and also expands the capacity of the cemetery to accommodate more people who wish for it to be their final resting place. Each of the niches in the columbarium holds up to two urns, with the cost for the niches ranging from $1,200 to $1,500, depending on the niche’s location in the columbarium. Anyone who wishes to purchase a niche should contact Bob Jackson, (813) 928-9412 or Vernon Wynn, at (813) 293-0263.

Kathy Vanater, Vernon Wynn and Bob Jackson are officers in the Lutz Cemetery Association. They stand next to a columbarium, which has 64 niches. It will help the Lutz Cemetery Association raise money to continue the upkeep of the Lutz Cemetery. It also provides a way to accommodate more residents who wish to make the cemetery their final resting place.

are just about 75 plots remaining, she said. So,Vanater said,“we’re trying to keep an income to be able to maintain the grounds.” To that end, Bob Jackson, the association’s vice president for administration, spent months researching the idea of purchasing a columbarium — which contains niches for urns containing cremains. Like Wynn, Jackson feels a personal connection to the traditional burial place in Lutz. “I’m fourth generation. My grandparents are in that cemetery,” Jackson said. After months of research, he found a company in Canada that produces the kind

the cemetery in July. It has 64 niches, which can hold two urns each. The cemetery has plenty of space to erect additional columbariums, depending on the demand. Besides providing a source of revenue for the cemetery, the columbarium provides additional capacity to serve people who want Lutz to be their final resting place, said Vanater, who joined the volunteer association at the request of a friend, and expected to pitch in for a year. That was nine years ago. The association,Wynn said, just wants to keep the community’s cemetery alive.

The redesigned website will be easier to use, allow for greater user interaction, and will feature enhancements, such as a prominent search function, video, easy access to documents, streamlined directions for online access to a variety of functions, and real-time updates for news and social media posts, the release says.
