Chapter 8: The Parent Noticeboard
Research shows that children do better in school when parents take an active interest in their child’s schooling. There are number of ways that parents and schools can communicate with each other, rather than relying on the scheduled parent-teacher evenings. Close communications between parents and schools can benefit the student enormously. Parents of students in all Malaysian schools are automatically allocated a login to the Frog VLE. Although limited to viewing the parent noticeboard and using email there is a lot the school can do to keep parents fully informed. This section is intended to start your school on the path to fully engaging parents. It is meant as a general overview of the potential of your VLE in opening communication channels to parents.
Parent Access Parents must use their own Yes ID and password when logging in to the Frog VLE. These need to be given to them by the Frog Admin.
The Parent Noticeboard The Parent Noticeboard is the first page parents are presented with upon logging into the VLE. It can only be customised by the Frog Admin. By default, the Parent Noticeboard looks like this:

The Frog Admin may add more tabs or sub tab to this page in order to convey necessary information to parents. How these are displayed is up to you. Use the Widgets to change the look and content of the Parents Noticeboard. Note: Here are just some few examples. No doubt you can think of many more innovative ways of using the Parent Noticeboard according to your school’s needs.
Do’s and Don’ts Do Update the board regularly so that Parents have a reason to log in. Inform all parents of their login information and explain the Noticeboards’ purpose. Try to include helpful, pertinent information. Try to convey warmth and a sense of partnership with parents. Make sure your Parent Noticeboard looks neat, organized, professional, and visually appealing. Don’t Let posted items become outdated or expired. Put up nasty reminders. Post inaccurate information or words spelled incorrectly.
Tips for Adding Content The default Parent Noticeboard is based around a single page. The Frog Admin can add new tabs to expand the Noticeboard. Include separate sections of information on a variety of different tabs. Select sections that are most appropriate for parents in your school. Start with a few sections and ask parents what they would like to see. Add more as you learn about parents’ needs, interests, and concerns. This is an example of a typical Parents Noticeboard. In this example we added new tabs such as; Calendar and Activities, Parent Teacher Association, Partnership with Parents, Exams, Notices for Parents and also a School Fees and Book List tab.

Adding Calendars and Activities Besides adding new pages we have also created subpages for the School Calendar and co-curricular activities.
When parents click on the Calendar & Activities tab, they can view a complete school calendar for the year. They can also download the time table if needed.
4
On the School Calendar tab, Parents can view upcoming meetings or events for the school.
Whilst on the Curricular & Co-curricular sub tab, they can see exams dates or any societies and clubs events.
5
Parent Teacher Association On Parent Teacher Association page, parents can find any related issues, events and information about the association in your school.
6
Partnership with Parents The Partnership with Parents page helps parents to know more about each other as a family. In here, you can post photos of people who provide your program with valued support and assistance: corporate donors, special visitors or volunteers. If necessary, invite each person to contribute a brief quote about why they support the program or how they feel about their experience at the program.
Frog Administrators can also add subpages for the Partnership with Parents page. For example, you can add a Discussion Forum. The Forum page allows parents to submit comments, questions or suggestions regarding the school, students or school management.
7
Exam Information The Exams page informs parents of all exam related information such as examination time tables.
The Frog Admin can also create subpages for national examination papers, such as UPSR, PMR, SPM, STPM or STAM.
8
Notices for Parents In the Notices for Parents page, we have created individual pages for each Year Group. Form teachers are able to notify parents concerning school trips, performing arts, fundraisers or any other events that involves Parents participation.
9
School Fees and Book List In the School Fees and Book List page, we have created individual School Fees and Book List pages for each Year Group. Parents are able to obtain information regarding the school fees from the page.
Furthermore, book list for the subsequent school year can be obtain beforehand instead of rushing to the school at the beginning of the school year and going through the process of purchasing the school essentials.
