Inspired to Serve - by Sara Lim
Seeing people with joyful hearts because they’re being served is all it takes to make me overflow with happiness. This is one of the reasons why I’m inspired to serve others. Because whenever I serve someone, there’s this irreplaceable feeling in my heart that can’t be found doing anything else. Seeing the happiness radiate through the people I serve is amazing. For example, through one volunteering experience, I was greatly inspired to continue volunteering- not just because serving at the event looks good on applications, but because I enjoy doing it. Mission Arlington hosts a VBS program, called Rainbow Express, around apartment complexes every summer. Volunteers from around the city go knocking at every apartment door seeking children to be a part of this ‘camp’. We sing songs, play games, create arts and crafts, and teach the campers about Jesus throughout the following five days. The amount of liveliness and joy in all of them is unimaginable. They’re filled with elation from head to toe over something so simple that we’re doing. I realized that I, too, came home with a smile on my face every day after working with them because of their happiness. Seeing others happy because I served them is a large part of what inspires me to keep on serving with every opportunity.
