OUR IMPACT

2016

TRANSFORMING YOUNG PEOPLE: Inspiring young people to contribute to their communities. Improving effective and positive family functioning.

“Me and my family have become closer and we now can work as a team and I now feel more confident with my children”

Sandy

Increased family teamwork skills; Increased leadership skills in Parents/Carers; Increased effective communication within the family; Raised aspirations within the family.

At risk groups. Brathay support groups of young people and families who have more specific needs: those who are at risk of being, or are already involved in the criminal justice system; or those who are sexually exploited, alcohol and substance misusers, self-harmers, young carers or looked after young people. We provide these families and young people with the time, space and support they need to develop self-awareness, skills and confidence; giving them the strength to make positive choices and take control of their lives.

#HELP FLAGSHIP FUNDRAISERS ARE VITAL TO OUR SUPPORT OF YOUNG PEOPLE ACROSS THE UK. > Brathay 10in10 Challenge. > Brathay Windermere Marathon and Half Marathon.

Education and employment.

Raised self awareness of leadership impact in relation to different challenges: Management of Teams and Groups.

Supporting social action.

Brathay support young people and their families to overcome any barriers they face when finding a path into education, training or work.

We work with young people and families to identify the services they need to improve their lives and bring their communities together, while building relevant skills to advance their long-term prospects.

We work with schools and colleges to bring young people’s studies alive with real-world skills; underpinning their learning with the attitudes and behaviours they will need when making the move into the workplace.

We support young people as they take on roles as National Citizen Service Volunteers or Aspiring Leaders – building their capabilities and helping them improve the lives of those around them.

Increased numbers in secure housing, stronger social networks, increased access to health services, progress into employment or training.

Challenging anti-social and offending behaviour. We support young people and families who are at risk of being, or are already involved in the criminal justice system. We help them develop the self-awareness, skills and relationships needed to adopt positive behaviours which reduces anti-social or offending behaviour.

FACT!

WHY I SUPPORT BRATHAY... Gina Pennington

Chelsea Jones

Sales Manager, Farrer’s Coffee and Brathay Fundraiser Brathay is a fabulous charity, right on my doorstep. Many of us have had great childhoods and can ensure the children in our lives get the best start, but that’s not the case for all young people. Brathay can make such a difference to a young person in very challenging circumstances.

Peer worker, Marathon runner and Fundraiser I want to help people the way Brathay helped me. Brathay has showed me that I can do anything I want and encouraged me to be the young woman I am today.

Jeff Prestridge Editor, Financial Mail , Brathay Fundraiser and Fellow I love Brathay because it helps kids from troubled backgrounds fulfil their potential. The work it does is inspiring and blows my mind away – I’ll support it until I drop.

Marc Pate

> Radio 4 Appeal by Jeff Prestridge. > 70th Anniversary Gala Dinner.

“Understanding myself, my thought process and the feelings I have got when I’m faced with certain situations; that’s really helped me in the way I work”

Supporting those at risk of offending to form firmer foundations through developing their independent living skills and wellbeing.

Stonemason, World Skills Board Member and Brathay Trustee I support Brathay because its commitment to helping develop young people has no limitations. Whether it be apprentices or young people in need Brathay has the passion and drive to help people move forward.

Chris Heaton

Businessman, Brathay Trustee and Fundraiser Brathay does unsung, necessary and brilliant work to give vulnerable young people a new start in life.

Sam Rayner

Keenene Daley

Peer Worker and Fundraiser Brathay staff support you but they ask you to take responsibility. The biggest thing I have gained from them is confidence. This is why I have returned to Brathay, to help other kids similar to me.

Managing Director, Lakeland and High Sheriff of Cumbria 2015, Brathay Fellow Brathay can and does change lives and influences people, by opening their minds to opportunities and abilities they never knew they had. This applies to young people and to adults alike because we can all have something hidden teased out of us.

David Grey MBE Business Leader and Master Culter 2015, Sheffield I have worked on a year long programme with Brathay and in that time, I have been impressed by their collegiate approach which delivers effective results.

Sir Iain Hall

Chief Executive, Great Schools Trust and Educational Leader Brathay is our leadership partner and, since our inception in 2012, has played a significant role with the planning, delivery and evaluation of staff and student leadership development programmes.

70 YEARS OF TRANSFORMING PEOPLE At Brathay we know that everyone has the capacity to do extraordinary things that can inspire and benefit others. This drives our mission to improve the life chances of children, young people and families by inspiring them to engage positively in their communities. Our Founder, Francis Scott, a successful businessman, invested in the nation’s future through the establishment of a charity dedicated to developing a new generation of post-war leaders, bringing together young people from widely different communities; apprentices from the shipyards; boys from top independent schools and many others to learn leadership skills from each other in the inspiring Lake District. As well as delivering high quality programmes, Scott set the charity goal of research, education, development and sharing our knowledge for the greater benefit of the nation. We remain as committed to the mission 70 years later; to inspire young people to make a positive contribution to society. We support our charitable efforts through enterprising fundraising and events, together with the knowledge in our research hub, and complementary professional activity that delivers organisational and people development consultancy to private and public sector organisations. Our dynamic approach is built upon a mutual trust that reaches out to touch communities across the UK from our inspiring Lake District base. Our expert teams engage with people of all ages and from all walks of life to discover the Brathay effect, enthused by a simple belief in the transformational power of people working together.

Every £1 donated goes towards supporting children and young people. Donors often choose to support young people in their local communities, where they can see the long-term impact of our programmes.

OUR

IMPACT 2016
