HUNTINGTON BEACH 10 miles from Buena Park

A straight shot south on Beach Boulevard takes you right to Huntington Beach and its world-famous pier. The city’s four beaches and 10 miles of coastline have been touted for decades as one of the best surf spots in America, earning it the moniker Surf City USA® .

A few of the endless activities: sunbathe or watch world-famous pro surfers practicing at Huntington State Beach, Huntington City Beach, and Bolsa Chica Beach; check out the “World’s Largest Surfboard” at the International Surf Museum; ride a beach cruiser along the boardwalk or roast marshmallows over a firepit at Huntington State Beach; frolic with furry friends at Dog Beach—Orange County’s only offleash beach; stand-up paddle board (SUP) in Huntington Harbor or ride the waves with a bodyboard, surfboard (we recommend lessons for first-timers), kayak, or Duffy boat.

Newport Beach

NEWPORT BEACH 20 miles from Buena Park

Newport Beach is a comprehensive seaside escape, home to the largest recreational harbor on the West Coast, over 20 named beaches, 10 miles of shoreline, and glamorous locals. The beaches along the Balboa Peninsula are especially appealing to families and casual swimmers, while surfers and spectators will enjoy infamously challenging waves at The Wedge point break.

Marina Park’s sheltered waters and nautical-themed playground are perfect for smaller swimmers, while the peninsula’s two historic piers and boardwalk feature dozens of shopping and dining options. Don’t miss the Ferris wheel and vintage arcade games at the Balboa Fun Zone, or the fi ve-minute ferry ride and overall charm of Balboa Island (the Original Banana Stand’s iconic desserts got the television treatment on Netfl ix’s Arrested Development). South of the Balboa area, the Corona del Mar and Crystal Cove State Beach offer breathtaking cliff views and tide pools for exploring.

LAGUNA BEACH 29 miles from Buena Park

Laguna Beach is an artist’s haven with stunning scenery and home to some of the loveliest coastal views in Southern California. The city’s seven miles of sand include Heisler Park Reserve, which boasts beautiful vistas (especially at sunset) and a paved path to stroll on. Shaw’s Cove and Treasure Island Beach are perfect for tide pool exploring and snorkeling, while the iconic Pirate’s Tower at Victoria Beach makes an enchanting photo backdrop (bathrooms are located at nearby Treasure Island Beach). Main Beach offers classic seaside activities like beach volleyball, basketball, and waves ideal for bodyboarding, plus it’s literally across the street from Laguna’s vibrant and eclectic downtown.

Newport Landing Whale Watching Marvel at migrating whales and their friends on this coastal cruise that’s available year-round. Pacifi c Marine Mammal Center in Laguna A volunteer-run nonprofi t rescue center for sea lions and seals, visitors can watch the animals frolic as they’re treated and rehabilitated, as well as learn about marine animal rescue and ocean conservation.
