DUE TO DETROIT’S LARGE GEOGRAPHICAL BOUNDARIES AND ITS RECENT DECLINES IN POPULATION, FEW HEALTHY COMMUNITIES EXIST; COMMUNITIES WHERE CITIZENS WANT TO LIVE AND WORK. THROUGH MASTER PLANNING THE CITY OF DETROIT, MI, COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT CAN BE CREATED IN A WAY THAT PROMOTES THE CITY TO EVOLVE AROUND A SERIES OF ICONIC STRUCTURES THAT REPRESENT THE ESSENCE OF THE COMMUNITY TO WHICH THEY ARE CONSTRUCTED.

Finding Gold in Golden Hill: A Project for Development: Two-Week Charrette
Designed for the purpose of devlopment, the multi-family housing unit, located in the community of Golden Hill, San Diego, CA, contains two,two bedroom units with parking underneath accomodating the slope of the natural topography. Folding floor plates and walls create a “wrapped” structure with an open floor plan. Strict community planning and zoning requirements were followed, resulting in contemporary material, form, and interior and exterior space.

PIPES
Method: 1. Sun shines on sea-water. 2. Plastic pipes are cooled by pumping icy-sea water thru them. 3. Sea-water sprayed onto absorptive mesh surface. Warm sea air passes thru mesh, sea water turns to vapor, leaving salt behind. 4. Sea breeze carries vapor back to pipes & condenses onto them, creating fresh water droplets. 5. Fresh water is collected at base. 6. Solar panels will provide heat for evaporators and will operate almost entirely on renewable energy. Solar Collector Evaporator

Fusion is the merging of dierent elements into a union; a library which combines San Diego community with the attractions of Balboa Park, joins architectural narration with contemporary form, respects original landscape quality and seeks not to dominate the site, but to become one with it. A unity between the people and the land.

Th e Wal l H ou s e House of the A n c e s t o r A house for the ancestor, Stephen Foster, draws the line between “the house” and the idea, the public, and the private, and poses the question, “what can a home become?” Designed for t h e ti m e w h e n t h e ancestor required s e p a r a ti o n f r o m h i s family, the theoretical “wall between them” becomes reality. Floor plates become roofs, penetrating planes form walls, and spaces that oscillate between indoor and outdoor create an experience of tension and discovery.

HOVERING INTRUSION 01. The San Diego shopping experience is the result of rising-waters and attempts to create a connection between the people and the bay - transforming the existing hard edge into soft infrastructure. The building structure is derived from a negotiation between the cruise ship terminal parking , and the tourist attractions that currently line the bay front. Creating a shopping experience will encourage urban expansion to the water edge and promote a healthier tourist economy. BOTTOM LEVEL OF MALL INACCESSIBLE DURING HIGH-TIDE
