How can we dismantle the embedded habits buried in Asian interior design? Liberation Bangkok is a secret base of operations situated in a comercial building in Bangkok, Thailand. A joint experiment between the owner and the designer with the core committment to a free space of gathering, of coming together, and of assembly. Integrating ideas of convening into dier-ent aspects, we capture the various states of group forming and shape theminto our interior turning the corner to a new deďŹ nition of Asian Bars.

Concept & Design Challenges :
How can we dismantle the embedded habits buriedin Asian interior design?
We want the space that allows people from any seat to see each other. The plan, therefore, corresponds, and the addition of the arch softens the atmosphere and decreases any awkwardness that may arise. Cozy material that has an Asian touch, as well as gentle lighting, also generate a friendly atmosphere. “+” = To explore and illicit different modes of community, lines, the most basic of forms is used as the thread throughout the space. The bars enveloped with molding lines creating a landmark in the centre, he lines then extend from ceiling to wall and to all the furnitures. With all the elements weaved together creating the sense of unity, symbolism through subtle “+” marks is hidden throughout, a little nod to various acts of coming together.

Seating type a. : For the more flamboyant type. We place the bar in the middle so as to invite people in from the very first step, as we juggle with two groups of behaviors. The first is the more flamboyant type. They are fashionable and want to attract attention. This group would sit at the bar whose seats are designed to have suitable dimension and to be able to spin all around. This would open up the opportunities for the customers to socialize with those sitting nearby. The ceiling is also attached with a mirror, allowing for discreet looks through the mirror.
Seating type b. : For the more grouping type. We place the bar in the middle so as to invite people in from the very first step, as we juggle with two groups of behaviors.
The second group is more private. Asians do not like high seats, so we decrease the sofa’s dimension slightly, but add more cushion for more comfort. Though private, the arch encircles and encourages this group to look at the first group and for the customers to see each other.

What will happen if storytelling can drawing inspiration from narrativity and constructing the experience of this place to be like that of telling and experiencing a tale ? Hibiki Bar is a manifestation of a tale crafted between Atelier of Imaginarists (aim) and the client. At it’s core the story revolves around unveiling the secrecy of a Japanese lineage. Behind the crest of Koi ďŹ sh which serves as both the symbol of the family as well as the protagonist which propels the story of this Omakase and bar, Hibiki Bar molds the space embracing the experimentation and intersection of design, beliefs, tales and history.
The project is still in design process under the studio , Atelier of Imaginarist (aim)

WELCOME , HIBIKI : Hide & Seek For this experiment, since the Japanese noble family is one that is hidden from the outside world, our main task was then to find the balance between remaining “hidden,” and being inviting to the guests.

RECEPTION AREA : The Gateway The reception area has a secretive air and is the most representative of the Koi fish family. We experiment with artificial lighting so that it bounces on the surface in such a way that it resembles water that ripples. We also brought in craftwork from a Thai brand, AUSARA, to represent a gateway to this noble Asian house.
VIP ROOM : The Gateway This room represents the family’s meeting room. We experimented with the material that could exhibit Koi fish qualities. In an on going collaboration with AUSARA, we are planning on using Thai silk attached with the wires bent to resemble the fish scale.
INDOOR GARDEN A minimal Japanese garden. Like the architecture, we find the balance between being “hidden” and being “inviting” through the design of lighting.

THE BAR : The Gateway The bar area is like the lounge area of the Koi ďŹ sh family. In this area, to maintain its traditional qualities, we used the Japanese traditional way of wood joints to construct the main structure. To exhibit the various aspects of this family, we also add a modern twist by ďŹ nishing the beam with stainless.

Britannica Brasserie How could we transform this space into one that offers a unique experience, one that could inspire connection across culture in the moment and one that could create memories ? Britannica Brasserie is a restaurant project that the client desired to
bring in her experience of several decades traveling to every country in Europe. The space is located within a department store, right at the heart of Bangkok. However, because the store is located further away from the main traffic, the previous owner could not generate enough revenue and eventually closed the shop down. After the discussion with our client, our main objective is how to transform this “weak point” into strength. How could we transform this space into one that offers a unique experience, one that could inspire connection across cultures in the moment and one that could create memories?

LIKE STUMBLING UPON A UNIQUEPLACE IN ONE’S TRAVELS : A connection of cultures made through such moments. The project was completed on November 12, 2019 and it was done under the studio , Atelier of Imaginarists (aim).
Inspired from the deepening of one experience of another country you have when repeatedly traveling there, the bonds and memories of Europe the client has forged these past decades, we are piqued by these accumulation of discoveries and elements of unexpectedness that could arise anytime. Drawing our processes of collecting and understanding these memories to the phenomena of “cabinet of curiosities”, where objects, relics, and souvenirs are put together, organized and studied, we came upon the name Britannica Brasserie.
CURVE LINES : Design Language Each with its own features, we play on these twists and perspectives connecting cultures through moments of alignment. These curve lines are also embodied in other aspects of the brand, a callback to the ornate cabinets of curiosities to be imprinted on all the graphic elements.
