Instead of designing a luxury five star hotel in the city, I challenged myself with choosing a traditional resort that follows Indochine style and posses the architectural language of Hue _the ancient capital of Vietnam. It is believed that Hue is an old city that peaceful and has a little bit sad atmosphere. After inspiration and research time, I chose Diospyros _ a kind of flower, which simpolic of the simpleness, the peace and the traditional culture of Vietnam, as the original idea. Besides that, the lobby and a typical villas of hotel villas area are in my design scope. Yellow, blue and black of wood are chosen as main colors of interior. Design language is according to the characteristics of traditional Vietnamese architecture: the postage and balance in the space are focused. Besides that, wood details that carved out in a traditional way are replaced with wood planes that finished by modern CNC technologies. All are the combination between the traditional Indochine style and the modern design with contemporary breath.

A typical villa

There are many types of villas in this resort which have different functions and facilities. I chose a typical villas that has a king bed for a couple, an entertaining area with bathtub and a mini bar, a relax balcony and an useful bathroom. It is 80 square meters and have a close to nature space with traditional architecture design.

BOOK-COFEE SHOP “TRANQUIL”

INTERIOR OF INDOOR AND OUTDOOR SPACES

02

Time : 9 weeks Semester : 2nd of Third Year Project type : Academic project | Hand-drawing Perspectives | Individual work | Design scope : Indoor and Outdoor space Mark : 9.5/10

In this project, I selected an 600 square meters area in order to build a steel frame on. Besides that, I chose a topic as a book-coffee shop where customers can come to drink a cup of tea or coffee as well as reading. Therefore, a space which is quiet, close to nature and filled with light was created. Inspiration The idea came from a famous fantasy notel named Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland of England. The design brought the hope that it would bring an peaceful but mysterious atmosphere to users. Harsh-surface wood and rough steel were used, combined with green factors in order to create a close to nature space.

6

It is not only bar but also cashier for coffee-shop, so its design language showed style and messages of “Tranquil” – a space of peacefulness, close to nature and helps people to escape their real lives. It includes front part and behind part.

The highlight part is the art project in center, which illustrates that Alice is following the tree of knowledge with logo “Tranquil above. The coffee shop was designed in order to construct a space full of natural lights and functional to reading for users.

They are a young brand which has a huge investment in marketing and very familiar with people. The area I chose is 200 square meters and has 4 open-door for users to access. My inspiration is a cube toy of children with many color and such like a puzzle game.

LOBBY AND AUDITORIUM

04

Time : 9 weeks Semester : 1st of Fifth Year Project type : Academic project | CAD&3D Perspectives | Individual work | Desigh scope : Lobby and Auditorium Mark : 9.0/10 In this project, I wanted to choose a traditional theme as the inspiration, so water puppetry which is an tradition originated in the northern Vietnam is the most suitableness. The puppets are made out of wood, controlled by puppeteers by large bamboo rods then performed in a waist-deep pool.

Inspiration Bamboo is chosen as the original inspiration of design concept because of its symbolization of the Vietnamese. With many characteristics and flexibilities of this material, I used it to decorate walls and especially a centeral highlight point. Besides that, the traditional pattern which appeared popularly in architectural buildings in the past was chose to be a part of decoration throughout the design. A magnificient art piece was made in order to decorating the upper side of the lobby. Bamboo was a main material for this piece and showed a whole story and meaning insides each play.

AUTHOR NGUYEN NHAT ANH AND HIS SERIES “KINH VAN HOA”

Time : 9 weeks Semester : 1st of Fifth Year Project type : Academic project | CAD&3D Perspectives | Individual work | Desigh scope : Special Exhibits Mark : 9.0/10 Nguyen Nhat Anh is regarded as one of Vietnam's most successful writers for teenagers. His works include approximately 24 short stories, 2 novel series and some collections of poems. His best-known series, Kính Vạn Hoa (Kaleidoscope), which contains 9 volumes, has been made into 3 drama series of the same name. Inspiration Kaleidoscope was chosen as the main inspiration for the shaping language of interior design. In the preface to the work, writer Nguyen Nhat Anh wrote that "I hope each volume of the work is like a kaleidoscope, just shake a little, the whole magical world will appear" . Therefore, this project created a magical, colorful space for children during the summer months of the event. Sketches have been done for each part of display wall as well as the stories and meanings inside them.

ACADEMIC PRACTIAL WORKSHOP PROJECT 01:

DESIGN AND PRODUCE A REAL FURNITURE IN STUDIO

A RATTAN MAKEUP TABLE

06

Time : 4 weeks Semester : 2nd of Third Year Project type : Practical project | Workshop | Teamwork | Mark : 9.5/10 During the project time, I was asked to work with some other students in class as a team under the guidance of our lecturer and a professional craftsmen. The project has the aim of exploring the relationship between a design drawing and its design management process as the result bring an idea to real-life. The production process of this makeup table has given us many valuable experiences: clearly understanding of the manufacturing process and operational process to co-ordinate designing to producing; how to work with a factory and last but not least : how to work as a team. In the first step, we started with creating the outer ring of the mirror. Bamboo to make this outer ring should be about 3cm diameter, still young and soft, the body of the bamboo was burned through gas fire to become softer and easier to bend. After this ring had become as perfect as the original design, two other rings were bent along, nestled inside the first one and fastened with some rattan strings. Then, the rings were placed on wooden boards and mirrors. The last work is bracing mirrors around the circle with small bamboo pieces which have been painted glossy protection. In the next step, we ordered from a wooden furniture factory to make table's surface with a drawer. All of them are made from industrial wood called MDF green core with good moisture resistance. A rattan woven sheet was placed on the top to decorate and was nestled by 1 cm diameter strings. Afterwards, the footwork of the table and the forcing were done by a skilled craftsman. Choosing finishing-paint so that not too glossy to lose the rusticity of the product is our work in the end.

CONSTRUCT A SMALL INTERIOR SPACE IN STUDIO

WINDOW DISPLAY OF “BITEBEAUTY LIPSTICK SHOWROOM

Time : 4 weeks Semester : 2nd of Forth Year Project type : Practical project | Workshop | Teamwork | Mark : 9.0/10 During the project time, I was asked to work with other students in class as a team under the guidance of our main lecturer. At the beginning of the project, we chose the background based on an interior design project Bite Beauty Cosmetics Showroom of a classmate. Then, two weeks of idea discussion for window display took place. Next, there were two to three days left for us to give the idea to the lecturer before construction week. Finally, we completed a practical month with a presentation to all lecturers' council. Inspiration We had undergone millions of ideas, concepts as well as models to find the most suitable design which was not only modern but also symbolized for all characteristics of products. Eventually, all of us and our lecturer decided this one. All tube represented for shapes of lipsticks as well as experiment tubes used in lipsticks-making processes. Because all the ingredients in each BiteBeauty Lipstick come from nature, such as fruits, vegetables, leaves, ...so we wanted to highlight this feature by making a forest where all those products were born. Process Firstly, we set up the frame of display area with iron bars and pressed woodboards , using those material made the frame becomes stronger. After that, cleaning and painting the walls took place, we painted the walls like grinding concrete materials to create a rustic background. Moreover, we used some iron grilles on top with 5 LED lights which illuminated directly to cosmetics products below. This grid was also used to tie tubes down and hide the lights inside. Bottom tubes had placed to stand firmly while middle ones were positioned with straps attached to upper tubes. The white ones were made of biggest diameter plumbings and were covered with white paint or PVC decal .The transparent tubes were made of flexible plastic material MICA. Finally, we rented artificial flowers, fruits and trees to decorate the display area more green and natural.

COMPETITION PROJECT:

INTERIOR DESIGN CONCEPT FOR FUTURE : LIVING BOX

ASIAN YOUNG DESIGN AWARD 2017

08

Time : 8 months August 2017- March 2018 Prize : Gold Award – First Prize – Interior Design Category of Vietnam Theme : “You for tomorrow” Asian Young Design Award is an architectural and interior design competition held annually in 14 Asian countries sponsored by NIPPON Group. In 2017, the contest took the theme "You for tommorow" to find out designs that are beyond the limits of time and are visionary for design. My design was inspired by the real phenomenon in society and comic book pages, and was fortunate to be selected as the first prize and represented for Vietnam in the Asian Round. The explosion of population in urban areas has led to an alarmingly high demand for accommodation for people. Villas, lot houses, dormitories or high-rise apartment buildings can not meet this demand. Since then, many intelligent home-interior designs that help to save space have been formed. However; intelligent is not enough, in the future 50 years from now, when the advances in science – engineering - technology will directly affect the living space, what will the interior design be like? The design initially set the goal to answer the above question, address the need for living space of each individual of the future community. We, in THE FUTURE, with the advances in science, can’t not dream of life in which we can control gravity, master of all aspects of space, we would be living in houses where the six sides are the floor. Recalling a Japanese manga about the robot cat Doraemon from the future, the cat brought a gravity-changing paint, which make the house 10 square meters bigger in size. The paint coming from Fukiko Fujio’s dream might have opened up a vision of our life in the future. Inspired by that, the design creates the smallest possible living space in which humans can change gravity, living on all six planes. In this interior block, six basic human needs: Cooking-Eating, SleepRest, Personal Hygiene, Study-Work, Storage and Reception are as complete as possible. Step by step set goals and tasks and thoroughly solve every problems of the project, the design aims to create a space full of elements to become the trend for future interior designing named: "Living Box".

EXCHANGE WORKSHOP PROJECT

DESIGN WITH INSPIRATION FROM BAMBOO

RE-DESIGN A GUEST HOUSE OF KINGMONGKUT ’S UNIVERSITY OF NORTH BANGKOK THAILAND

Time : 5 days Semester : Summer of Fourth Year Project type : Exchange workshop | Optional Expression | Teamwork | Desigh scope : Inspiration and Design Concept The site of this project is in PrachinBuri Province of Thailand, which has 50% of land are plateaus and mountain. Moreover, there are many villages in here are bamboo craft ones, and they always use bamboo to create furnitures for daily lives. Thus, my team decided to choose bamboo and mountain shape to ideate design for the guest house.

Reality photos show current interior which is simple and does not have any insight meaning.

Each group of us when participating the workshop had 4 Thailand and 2 Vietnamese students. In my group, we discussed the idea together, did many sketches and built a physical model to test views of users when standing in the lobby. After that, we divided works into 4 parts and finished it before presentation time. Two guys took over the magnificient art, another one did the illustration for the construction of statue, one more guy did the presentation slides and the last student did 3D perspectives. Finally, we presented before the council in order to show fully the insight meaning and efforts that we did.

Magnificient bamboo art on upper wall of the lobby My team wanted to present the story of villager’s lifestyle that passing to next generation by 3 seasons of Thailand. The summer stands for the glory of King Rama IV of Thailand. The rainy stands for the story of farming. And the winter stands for the life style of villagers. So we made an art made by the bamboo graphic patterns. Bamboo stutue in the center of the lobby We are inspired by human anatomy and changed human muscles to bamboo which means that bamboo is their culture, their job, their living and bamboo has become thier bodies. Lastly, father and son image means that the culture was not created by asingle genaration. The olders are forwarding to their children and by teaching the youngers, they will keep this culture and indentity not only of this village but also this province for tomorrow.

The original state of the store before re-designing: quite messy and lack of usefulness. With the small original space and old status of the architectural building, I chose a simple design language but tried to show elegance as well as fancy for users. The main color which chose were coffee-grey of walls, reflected-white of items of furniture, black-leather of chairs and benches, harsh-brown of wood for flooring. Lighting in this kind of interior spaces is quite important for artists when making up for guesses. Lighting needs to be meet the standard of both aesthetics and function. The layout was designed carefully when there was a big column in the center of the room as a challenge. An album display cabinet had been placed aims to create a divider between the reception area and the makeup zone, as a wall from the central column to the side wall-column.

After 2 months of refurbishment, the studio has been re-opened. There were some changes from original design because of lacking materials in the market at that time and the fluctuation of furnitures prices. However, the client has been satisfied with the final result and a beautiful, functional studio has been made.

Location : No. 33 Nguyen Binh Khiem str., Hai Ba Trung Dist., Hanoi, Vietnam Area: 33 square meters each floor Client's investment : maximum 5500 US$ Time : May 2018 The original state of the store before refurbishment: quite messy and lack of usefulness. With the small original space and old status of the architectural building, I chose a simple design language but tried to show elegance as well as fancy for users. VIP Zone

The store includes 4 main zones: Reception zone for customers waiting and booking makeup services in advance, Makeup zone for 10 artists and 10 guests, VIP zone for 1 artist (is the client of the project as well) and his important customers, Hair-dressing zone for 1 dresser and 1 customer. I had a deep look into their necessaries as well as their demand in their working areas, as a professional makeup artist, they do not need only the functional factors of designs but also the aesthetics, the design styles. Last but not least, this kind of interior spaces obviously need to be easy to clean.

RESIDENTIAL PROJECT

PRIVATE FIVE-STOREY TOWN-HOUSE

PRIVATE HOUSE FOR A FAMILY WITH 5 PEOPLE, 3 GENERATIONS IN URBAN OF HANOI

Design Scope : Frontage, Living room, Kitchen and Dining room, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, Alter-room Location : No. 647, Service Area 14, Kien Hung Ward, Ha Dong Dist., Hanoi, Vietnam Area: 46 square meters each floor, 184 square meters total Guest's investment : maximum 30000 US$ Time : July-August 2018 In the beginning, I had small researches on their hobbies, their relationship with each other as well as all their styles about living spaces. Through many ideas and sketches, we all agreed with this design. It was not only affordable to them but also represents their social classes and their aesthetic view. Living room Guests already have a set of sofa with coffee tables, so all the design are based on the look of this sofa. Oak and grinding concrete are used in combination with sofa sets. A decorating cabinet, which is white, makes the space lighter. The decorating behind the TV is made from a material called ecowood that matches the wooden ceiling.

Kitchen and Dining room They require a space ,which is used for up to 6 people, can be flexible to change for more people during the holidays. Due to there are grandparents who are able to do housework all days, they do not need a large refrigerator, but using a large kitchen cabinet system is essential. The space of the kitchen does not have much natural lights so it needs a high ceiling, airy and bright Grandparents' bedroom They use this room just to sleep and store clothes. They do not have too many special requirements with their room except for a large wardrobe and TV to watch before sleeping. Parents' bedroom From the beginning, they insisted that this room was not used every day and they only came here on weekends to rest. As a result, a large bed to rest, a wardrobe which is not too large and a simple desk-makeup system are considered. Kid's bedroom Since the house is far from the city center, children only come here on weekends and summer vacation to visit their grandparents. A bookcase system or a study shelf is not necessary. Free space for kids to play is required. Green wall color is chosen, for not only order to match the overall design but also is the color which the first child is very fond of. Alter room : traditional design language with pratical view.
