This thesis experiments with digital simulation and soft form making. It positions digital simulation as a form generating methodology: everyday materials were given opportunity to do unexpected things with the application of digital simulation, thus creating new possibilities for flexible “digital soft”(=soft form + soft material). Scene animation is a visual representation technique exploring how an occupant experiences and interacts within and outside of the everyday space created by the simulated forms.

MATERIALS DIGITALLY
Today, there are endless ways in which we can imagine new kinds of environments, spaces, materials, and objects. From the everyday and familiar, to the unimaginable, digital simulations are ubiquitous at mirroring back what we already know or at presenting to us something out-of-thisworld.Isthere something in between these two realms where digital simulations could offer new ways of making form and materials for a not so out-of-this-world, near-future?
How can a process of digital simulations generate new ways of imagining domestic environments?
DIGITALLY ENABLED
This thesis fantasizes about domestic space in a similar way to how the Eames House offered a domestic lifestyle of design, objects, and curated scenes...as an armature to design a space for a live-work artist house.
During the last few years of the pandemic, when people’s domestic space became the backdrop of digital communication interfaces, I wondered about how domestic space, while varied in cultures and taste, is a territory that hasn’t changed in form and materialism.
DIGITALLY ALTERED CHARACTERISTICFIRST LOOK How digital simulation alters the intrinsic characteristic of common materials and how that imply altered properties, thus new formal possibilities? concrete panel - perforated, corrugated, rolled up, bend down, draped, curtained wood stud - perforated, corrugated, rolled up This investigation is curious about normal construction materials and their "digitally enabled soft" possibilities(imaging their characteristic change in digital world).

In Marvelous Designer, concrete panels are treated like cloth with different thickness, trimmed, hammed, sewed, then draped and hanged from massing and structure.

Hey, did you notice the terrazzo roof is breathing? It's like the house is breathing with me as I breath in and out and bow in and out during my yoga stretch. Namaste. I am enjoying this house so much. An other wonderful refresher with this at home yoga session.
Saturday, 6am sunrise. Sitting on the inside wooden chair for meditation, then sitting outside for moring breath work before starting to work at studio for the day. SPACE OF GOING IN AND OUT, DINNING, CASUAL GATHERING
7pm, sunset golden hour. Wrapped up a client presentation, getting dressed up to head out for a run along the lake in the neighbourhood. What should we have for dinner?
Chilled down in the P.M., listening to bossa nova instrucmental jazz, laying among the flowers, hiding in the soft wood and winging off for the day, thinking of tomorrow's schedule?

A normal weekday, 10am. A group of the construction team is using my double height studio plus work shop space today, to assemble the flexible brick wall system that doubles as a shelving unit as well as storage place. The inflated bricks change the ways they used to stack, resulted in new patterns and textures, also implies new constructability. How interesting, I wonder how much futher they can differ even more.

Sunny day. Bricks are making a soft form today, and it contains the model tools, scraps, and sample materials in behind it. We will have another follow up meeting with client today to decide the color of paint that they like. We will show them the samples we have in our material library inside.
I love how I can be laying on the floor with my belly on the soft blanketed floor plate, and look down to see downstairs, look out to see outside nature through semi translucent space with my new woven glass window enclosure. I love that I have a lot of privacy while knowing that I am still connect ed with my outside surroundings. This is a specially woven fiber glass materials, it is sturdy, it provents water and provide thermal insu lation. I am wondering if I can have all my wall surfaces, floor surfaces, interior partition surfaces all custome made from this material. I choose specifically this kind of material for my meditation space becasue it provides enough seperation of interior and exterior, while give out some hint of outside while I am inside meditating. In this kind of post-covid era, it is trendy to have an ambiguious boundaries of interiority and exteriority. It took a long time for me to get this ordered and I am so excited to try it on!

Walking up the stairs to my meditation space, where I have my own uninterrupted space for meditations, facials, spas, it is my most intimate space that let me heal, entertain, be alone and be myself at peace.
