The Ashton Memorial Folly was commissioned by James Williamson, Lord Ashton, as a tribute to his late wife. Born in Lancaster, Lord Ashton became a millionaire, producing oil-cloth and linoleum which was exported all over the world. The Memorial was designed by John Belcher and completed in 1909. The interior has been superbly restored and we are pleased to offer it as a venue for a memorable wedding ceremony. The large windows allow light to stream in all around, dancing across the exquisite marble floor and reflected all around the walls. The grand ceiling displays murals depicting the achievements of Lancaster’s citizens and their contribution to British commerce and culture, the centrepiece is a magnificent ornate light fitting. The wedding party and guests enter and leave through the eastern entrance which faces the superb Edwardian Palm House, now home to the park’s collection of colourful tropical butterflies, separated from the Ashton Memorial by an attractive mosaic at the centre of which is the Lancashire Rose.

fter the Ceremony‌
After the ceremony the park is at your disposal. The unique architecture and delightful landscape are a photographer’s delight, giving endless possibilities for creating a truly memorable album of traditional or more creative photographs. In addition to the memorial itself with its grand pillars and sweeping staircases, other attractions include a secluded glade with its own waterfall, a Lake complete with arched bridge and the Lancaster Sundial on the base of the former Bandstand. Overlooking the historic city of Lancaster, Morecambe Bay and the Lake District Fells, the park gives you a stunning, scenic backdrop to your pictures.

The outdoor viewing gallery on the first floor gives visitors the opportunity to see distant landmarks identified by brass plaques around its balustrades. On a clear day, even the Isle of Man and Blackpool Tower are visible and, on the eastern side, the Forest of Bowland and hills of the Yorkshire Dales. Should you have younger, somewhat restless guests there is plenty of space outdoors for them to let off steam and work is in progress on a completely new playground area. The Pavilion CafĂŠ sells drinks, snacks and light meals and, next door, the gift shop sells an excellent range of souvenirs including colouring books and pencils. Combined entrance tickets are also available in the shop for the Butterfly House, the creepy-crawly Mini Beast Cave, free-flying Bird Enclosure and a Garden full of furry friends!

ooking Your Wedding at the Ashton Memorial
• The ground floor of the Ashton Memorial is available for the solemnization of marriage. You should first make your booking with Williamson Park (01524 33318), and then with the Registrar of Lancaster (0845 053 0021). • The Registrar’s fees are available on request. The hire charge for the Ashton Memorial allows the hirer the use of the building for two hours, including half an hour before the ceremony. • To make your booking please complete the booking form at the rear of this brochure and return to Williamson Park. A deposit is required to secure the date. • In addition to the ceremony you may wish to take advantage of other services that we offer – Champagne or wine can be served to your guests after the ceremony, please ask for details.

A cake for every occasion Creative Cakes has been established for 10 years, producing quality, individually designed wedding cakes. Each cake is baked on the premises using the finest of ingredients. Williamson Park is situated in a commanding position overlooking Lancaster City Centre. It is approximately 5 minutes from junction 34 of the M6 motorway. After leaving the M6 follow signs for Lancaster city centre and brown signs (showing a butterfly) to Williamson Park. There is a car park on Wyresdale Road and disabled spaces are available via the Quernmore Road entrance. The park is open throughout the year except for Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. 10am - 5pm April to September, 10am - 4pm October - March.
