PORTFOLIO ANTONIO LANCELLOTTI INTERIOR & ENVIRONMENT DESIGN

ABOUT ME After getting my degree and MA degree in Interior design at Politecnico in Milan, I followed a MA degree in Environmental Art Design in Beijing’s Tsinghua University, I moved to London to find the right design practice to which I could give my positive contribution in a professional manner. I’m currently working at George Singer Studio, as spatial designer. I previously worked at What Architecture as architect assistant; in Milan I worked in the exhibition department of Politecnico in Milan where I designed temporary events, and followed the projects on site. During my experience abroad I worked in an architectural studio in Beijing, Do_ Union Studio. In my career I learned how to manage the potential challenges of this industry, working with talented italian designers such as Andrea Branzi and Michele De Lucchi, and famous chinese designers such as Su Dan, Cheng Dapeng and Fang Xiaofang . 1. ANHUI ART MUSEUM HEFEI - CHINA Hybrid space between historic and contemporary Trying to experience daily life in urban China, where the hybrid space could be very useful and effective, I tried to analyse a possibly fertile ground for entering such an area, finding it in the urban planning areas of museums and exhibitions. In the last decade the market for architectural museum is constantly growing, but with it many deficits of urban planning in the surrounding areas, which are often poorly designed to accommodate a museum activity that alone is not able to survive in the Chinese market. Anhui Art Museum was built as a symbol of artistic province in southern China, leads me to combine with quality and historical elements of the design of the environment Anhui provinces, or rather of the small villages in the south of the region, with elements of chinese traditional garden and with contemporary landscape that will recreate in three courtyards, three different environments reproducing spaces interwoven between public and private, past and present, and inside-out.

2. COMMERCIAL STREET XIAN - CHINA Ski Rink Cover Proposal The studio has been given the chance to develop the whole Havsun Commercial Building Complex. I personally took care of the design development of the cover of the underground ski ring. The shape I have created is deeply contrasting with the surrounding buildings, as its function was different from the other buildings. The aim of this ellitical shape was to create walking paths around it, which made the cover become a central focus point. The contrast with the surrounding buildings that we highlighted in the choice of the shape it is also reflected into the choice of materials used for the structure: glass and a see through steel structure made the shape lighter and gave the chance to appreciate the view of the ski rink from the ground floor.

The images above show the masterplanning of the entire commercial area. The three main ed buildings are: a massive commerical mall with over 40.000mq on the west side, in the middle we can find the cinema, placed near the river and on the east entrance the ski rink cover.

3. ZEPHYR CHANDELIER ST ANDREW - SCOTLAND Fairmont St Andrews Hotel The brief was to create something to reect a corporate environment and the concept of using a murmuration of starlings seemed perfect to me. Zephyr represents a sense of togetherness. A family. 20.000 of individuals coming together in a large organic entity. The disks are photo-etched, screen-printed, and attached to wires by hand. The whole installation is 57m long and doesn’t collect dust.

4. ART DISTRICT 751 BEIJING -CHINA 751 is an artistic district of Beijing where I set up the project with the aim of converting the existing dismissed area into a public space with outdoor activities for the community living nearby. The area in which the projects has been developed is a 50’s abandoned coal deposit. The main areas are the now empty tanks, where the hollow volume allowed us to create a variety of enclosed and open spaces. Each unit has different shapes and sizes, they are either 20meters tall towers, or suspended walkway, or 500 sqm auditorium. ON THESE PAGES: _ photo of the actual state of the coal tanks _ box concept NEXT PAGE: _ visual showing the new project situation _ general layout of the area

The images above show a different usage of the volumes created. The intersection between walkway, bridges, and units transform the area into a more dynamic environment, to attract people and promote various activities, such as street art, fashion events and guerrilla marketing.

5. LAMBRETTA PARK MILAN - ITALY The projects reflects on the theme of factories in a conceptual and formal way. We interpreted the factory as a sum of parts, elements and primary and rationalized fields. Starting from a formal point of view instead, the building is considered the mean to create defined and artificial lines on the area, which contributed to evoke a sort of inner complexity. These reflections are translated into a master plan that divides the area in three macro-functional zones: urban park, square and a linking path between the two previous areas. In comparison with the two near areas, these one create a sort of continuity with the residential district, with the urban gardens and the shopping centre; at the same time they are in contrast with the INNSE factory thanks to the height of the trees on that side of the park, which becomes a visual and acoustic limit to the factory.

6. PRESPACE MILAN - ITALY Children Point of View I worked on an housing project, placed in the south of Milan ( Gratosoglio district). In particular I worked on the last floor, in which there is an indoor space dedicated to kids and also surrounding terraces, used as vegetable gardens. The kids’ area is divided in: playing area, situated in the south-east zone; perceptual laboratory, which is the heart of the project. In fact, being in the middle of the layout it becomes the place in which the flow of people is higher. And then, there’s the shelter in the north-west area. These zones are surrounded by the main services: kitchen and kids’ toilettes, the reception/waiting area for parents and a dressing room close to the entrance. 7. OLD TRAIN STATION MARKET WROCLAW - POLAND The area in Wroclaw Swiebodzki is very wide: it is extended for almost 2 km, crossing the urban territory from its downtown to the near countryside. In fact the space in its dimension can be divided into three main areas, different for features and relation with the surroundings, in which the project must be integrated and be affirmed. The first area we pointed out is the one characterized by the rail path, far from the principal entrance and from a strict contact with urban context. Here nature is the protagonist and makes the space more hidden and reserved, used by sellers without fixed stands. The centre of the entire area (between the shelter and the rail path) is the one related to the project of dot market, a kind of market place dedicated to the weekly markets and suitable to host a various number of sellers. By the way, the space is organised in order to offer people coverings and structures which can increase the general comfort and to give people basic elements to use for resting, eating in the open air, chatting, meeting, etc. The last area one of the shelter, which starts from the entrance till the end of the old structure. This area is perfect to host some commercial activities like the permanent shops and their declinations.

8. HUTONG PARASITIC BEIJING - CHINA By using parasitic means, we try to address the common problems of premise Dashilar houses under historic preservation area, such as - small, broken, loose, empty, chaotic, dark. In the house, a standardized steel internal parasitic system is installed, as the support to reinforce the old structure, which also consists of the internal integrated basis of function and space. The structure will meet all functional spaces of the residents’ living in the complex overlay module, and installed in the framework of the variability of the formation of an integrated system. Space partitioning and functional modules can vary according to the needs of tenants, by the ways of interaction and a not strengthen gesture to keep a balance and inter-flow between the old environment and a new living environment. And because of the advantages of the cost and expandability of this system, it has a large scale of promotion potential.

9. WOODEN ECHOES MILAN - ITALY Wooden Echoes is a project created by the desire to transform and change the substance, presenting the actions and changes in the time causes on it. From the fullness of matter to subtraction, the reduction in elements that seem to have been eroded by the passage of time. Through woodworking, Wooden Echoes is the will to discover in depth the secrets of nature and its materials; the curiosity to go beyond the data visible, looking for spectacular forms, new sensations and new ways of seeing atmospheres that seem to emanate from distant worlds and primordial.
