Seasons & Celebrations by Neng & Bashir This intricate ART known as Chainstitch originated centuries ago in KASHMIR. Chainstitch is done by Hook rather than by Needle. The hook is referred to as “ARI”. This art covers a much larger area than needlework in the same amount of time. All the embroidery is executed on a white cotton fabric which is pre-shrunk. Tiny stitches are used to cover the entire area – the figures or motifs are worked in striking colors. Stitches ought to be small, evensized and neat. Our chainstitch is handmade and made with natural fibres and dyes. Kashmir Hand Embroidered Shawls and Jackets are woven in Kashmir. The embroidery is done by hook rather than needle. The hook is refered to as ARI. Motifs here are the well known flower design finely worked in concentric rings of chainstitch.

This time we bring to you very special pieces of natural arts for your home. Each individual item is made by hand by a Brazilian artist. One of her expertise is the ancient art of lacquering. The artist saw beauty in the fallen palm leaves and took inspiration from the natural forms that these leaves created. With this collection she was inspired to transform the leaves into an art form so that others could see and appreciate their beauty. The process begins with the gathering of the fallen leaves and comprises the treating, shaping and lacquering together with the very necessary final touches. The finished products have many decorative and functional uses. Depending on the size of the leaves, they are transformed into napkin holders, fruit bowls, flower trays and serving trays. These are just some of the exquisite pieces the artist has been able to create, produced almost entirely from the bounty and beauty of nature.
