A Lifelong Value

Kierra Brown ‘14 B.S., Political Science; J.D., Penn State

Class of 2014 alumna Kierra Brown, a civil litigation attorney with the South Carolina Bar who has appeared before the U.S. District Court of South Carolina and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, believes her years at Lander were well-spent. “I greatly value the first-hand experience that Lander provided. My courses, term papers and class simulations allowed me to research and consider the real-life decisions that world leaders have to make, and how these decisions impact the rest of the world.” Her semester in Washington, D.C., also played a pivotal role in her career trajectory. “My experience at the U.S. Department of Justice-Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention was a dream come true. It was there that a mentor insisted I apply to Penn State for law school. I spent my final year at Lander interning in the office of Greenwood’s City Manager. This prepared me with knowledge of how various laws and ordinances govern different jurisdictions on a local level. This insight made my civil procedure course in my first year at Penn State a bit more understandable. I firmly believe my Lander experiences have fully prepared me for my current role as an attorney, as well as my upcoming endeavors.”
