WELCOME

Welcome to the Land Rover Owner International Show, proudly sponsored by If you drove here in your Land Rover (and why wouldn’t you?), you’ll already know that this year’s show is going to be different, because for the very first time, we’ve got a designated Land Rover only parking area. This is just one of the new features we’ve introduced for 2013. We’ve been looking forward to this event all year, putting all our efforts behind this one show, and we’ve planned a corker. Whether it’s exciting arena action, mud-flinging fun on the Britpart off-road course or the chance to see and buy the latest overlanding kit, then look no further – it’s all here at the Land Rover Owner International Show, proudly sponsored by Silverline 4x4. Come and see their huge range of wheels and tyres on display next to the LRO stand. This year, we’ve got the LRO Live Action Arena with awesome vehicles such as QT’s Wildcat rally raiders tearing around and whipping up a storm and extreme winch challenge action thanks to the guys at Flatdog. Away from the petrol-head action, LRO’s Sam Watson is holding an Overland Workshop (Saturday only) with first-hand advice and information from a variety of speakers for every budding adventurer. The Armed Forces Rally Team, supported by Polybush, is in the workshop tent next to LRO, racing the clock to rebuild a rally Defender. Will they get it finished in time for the Sunday afternoon deadline? Only time will tell. But, the undisputed stars of the show are the Land Rover club stands, packed with 65 years’ worth of Land Rover history. Whether you’re new to the scene or part of the furniture, you’ll find plenty of gleaming metal to satisfy you. On behalf of the whole LRO team, I hope you enjoy the show!

FLAT DOG We all know that Land Rovers are the ultimate vehicles when it comes to surmounting off-road obstacles. Humps, bumps, hills and even fully fledged mountains can all be climbed with a well-prepared Land Rover! Flatdog will be ramping up the excitement this year as the challenge cars get even more versatile – Flatdog fully intend to push them to the limit.

RULES OF COMPETING

All shocks on vehicle must be attached Tyres to be at 12psi or higher Diff locks not to be used Ramp marshall to be obeyed Prove the ability of your Land Rover at the Ramp Travel Index.

War of the Roses with the Red Rose Land Rover Club War of the Roses is an annual event run by the Red Rose Land Rover Club. This weekend the LRO Show will host a fun version of their famous challenge. Four clubs will take each other on in a series of cleverly designed challenges, choose a team to support in this test of ingenuity, driver skills, team work and ability not to laugh to hard before crossing the finish line!

PULLING POWER Land Rover owners love personalising their vehicles by bolting on accessories and one of the first extras many owners buy is an electric winch. But with so many different winches from so many manufacturers how do you know which one to buy? The display will be lead by David Bowyer from Goodwinch. We have all the answers here at the Show – a mega winching display will take place in the Main Arena where we will be putting as many winches to the test as possible!

SET UP CAMP COMPETITION Don’t miss the chance to see two teams race against the clock to park their Land Rover, get out their kit and erect a campsite. First team to get everything erect and the tea brewed wins!

ALL ACTION HEROES ALIVE TUNED This is the Alive Tuned and sponsored Defender built by The Old Forge Garage in Lincolnshire and driven by Phill Bayliss. The vehicle is used in Comp Safaris and Hillrally style events, all about speed and reliability. The TD5 engine has always had a bad press so to make this engine fast and reliable became our number one task. We joined forces with Alive Tuning and have seen the engine and performance go from strength to strength. It is fitted with the Alive Tuning PP5 Kit which includes a variable vain turbo and tubular manifold configuration and the results are fantastic. This vehicle is used as the ultimate test for the Alive products, with the extreme use it undertakes, flat out prolonged driving and with high temperatures created, it tests the products to the limit and proves that reliability has not suffered even when massive power increase is achieved.

CLUB PARADES This is a great chance to see some of the countries best loved clubs and the meet the people behind them. Some old favourites and some new clubs with new ideas.

CLUB NEWS

CLUB NEWS Land Rover 127/130 Ambulance Enthusiasts

4x4 Response North East

We are primarily a web based discussion forum, for owners and enthusiasts of these ex-military Defender Ambulances, which make such an ideal base vehicle for ‘overland camper’ conversions. However, in recent years, the ‘AGM’ on the club stand at the Peterborough LRO Show has become a popular rendezvous for members and visitors alike. This year we will be exhibiting one vehicle that has just completed an extensive makeover, in preparation for a world wide expedition, so visitors will have the opportunity to see the conversion potential of these vehicles and pick up some useful hints and advice. Also new on the stand this year, will be one of the latest generation of 130 ‘Pulse’ military ambulances, which are just starting to appear in the club.

We are a group of like-minded individual 4x4 owners who share common interests which go beyond our enthusiasm for our vehicles. We also enjoy helping out in our local community, especially when weather conditions cause chaos and a 4x4 vehicle is the most suitable mode of transport. Formed in 2005 4x4RNE a non-profit, volunteer group which can provide logistical vehicle and driver assistance to the emergency services, local authorities and associated responders in adverse weather conditions and over difficult terrain. Operating throughout the North East region from the Scottish Borders to Yorkshire and East coast to Cumbria. Come and join us www.4x4rne.co.uk

Scout 4x4

Chiltern Vale Land Rover Club

Land Rover Series One Club

Scout 4x4 is an Active Support Unit. Set-up by like-minded individuals with a common interest in off-road driving, 4x4s and helping people out. Formed in 2008, we are now providing help and support to many Scout events and activities as well as providing 4x4 off-road experiences to many young people across the south of England. We have been working with both local groups and on the national stage supporting and giving experiences to thousands of young people. The future is looking bright with exciting projects and working with campsites to provide driver training and site specific driving policies and handbooks. Our members don’t all have 4x4s as we are about supporting scouting and having a great time. We also provide water activities, radio hire, event support, event production and much more! Get involved today – info@scout4x4.co.uk

Chiltern Vale Land Rover Club is based in Totternhoe, Bedfordshire. We are small club with about 80 members and we hold an RTV trial once a month in the surrounding areas. RTV means road taxed vehicles, and that means if you have a Land Rover and you fancy doing a bit more than the week’s shopping in it! Or indeed if you think you can drive it off-road then come and show us. Never driven off-road before or in a completion? Not a problem, as a novice you can have one of our experienced drivers with you, and best of all you don’t need anything more than a standard vehicle as long as it has recovery points. (ALRC rules) Become a member at our stand – £15 for a days trialing, then only £20 payable on the day.

The Land Rover Series One Club was formed in 1979 by three enthusiasts for those interested in early Land Rovers, it has since grown to be the largest Land Rover club in the world with nearly 3,000 members across the globe. We publish a bimonthly magazine, Legend, its contents include photographs, historical and technical information as well as forthcoming events. The club’s website (www.lrsoc.com) contains Land Rover Technical bulletins, past editions of the club magazine and the world’s largest web based collection of Series One photographs. Our extremely active forum, provides a point of contact for members from all over the world We can supply extensive range of original and remanufactured parts and also have appointed technical officers who specialise in particular models and can offer expert help. CLUB NEWS Mersea Landrover Enthusiasts

Ongar Historic Military Society

Military Lightweight Club

Mersea Landrover Enthusiasts has been running for around eight years and is based in Mersea Island, Essex. The group has gradually grown over the years and were hoping to keep attracting new members. We don’t like to think of ourselves as a club, but as a group of friends and family who are passionate about buying building and restoring Land Rovers. We have a broad knowledge of everything Land Rover and take pride in our vast range of vehicles. We’re always looking for new projects and hope to rescue abandoned and neglected Land Rovers from all across the UK!

OHMS was formed some ten years ago by a group of like-minded friends over the kitchen table of one of our members. His house is in Ongar and after a few hours, or even minutes, of head scratching for a military sounding title we came up with a play on ‘On Her Majesty’s Service’ and the Ongar Historic Military Society was formed. We currently have a wide fleet of vehicles and equipment in the club, with every type of ex-military Land Rover covered along with other types such as Ferret armoured cars, 25 pounder field guns and Bedford trucks to name but a few. Membership is open to all and geographically we cover Buckinghamshire to London to Essex to Suffolk. Please come along for a chat.

Winner of ‘Best Club Stand’ at last year’s show, the Military Lightweight Club continues to grow in numbers and always aims to put on a great display of ex-military Lightweights and military equipment for visitors to the show. The club’s forum and website follows the progress of the members project vehicles from literally ‘scrap’ to ‘concourse’ show winners. If you own a Lightweight, or have a story to share that can help us to keep the Military Lightweight alive, then come along and have a chat. Look out for our trademark ‘camo-net’ fence, we’ll be delighted to see you.

Peterborough Land Rover Club Since Peterborough Land Rover Club was formed at the beginning of 2012, it has grown dramatically in number. After realising that at the time, there did not appear to be a Land Rover club based in or close to Peterborough, it was decided to get one up and running. A club for owners, enthusiasts and fans of the Land Rover marque, we have members from all around the world, not just Peterborough. From greenlaning to off-roading, meetings, technical support, Land Rovers and Land Rover parts available for sale and a fantastic group of like-minded Landy people, this is what you get when you join PLC. Club membership is free of charge and there are club logo stickers for your Landy and printed t-shirts for you, available at very reasonable prices. Email: peterboroughlandroverclub@live.co.uk

Manchester Land Rover Club

We’re based in Manchester, of course, but welcome members from all over the UK – you don’t even have to own a Land Rover to join in! BLRG (Birmingham Land Rover Group), is a club for enthusiasts, that is run by its members. Although based in Birmingham, it has members throughout the UK and afar. The club attends many events throughout the country, these include dedicated Land Rover shows, Classic Car events, greenlaning and camping weekends throughout the year. The club prides itself in family membership and encourages members of all ages to attend club and social events. Many friendships have been formed since the club was formed back in 2008 and it’s great to see the younger members mixing and chatting with older members and visa versa, sharing their passions for the green oval badged vehicles. The various members of the club hold a host of vehicles that include, Series models, Defenders, Range Rovers, Freelanders and more recently Toylanders! The membership is constantly growing in numbers, with a friendly welcoming atmosphere, long may it continue.

WHATEVER YOU USE YOUR VEHICLE FOR, YOU’RE INVITED TO JOIN OUR CLUB. YOU’LL BE ABLE TO ENJOY: • Free membership • Full access to our lively, friendly forum • Informal monthly get-togethers • Regular greenlaning outings • Social events • Assistance, advice and camaraderie from other members • Members’ discounts on Land Rover related products and services www.mlrc.org.uk

Norfolk and Suffolk 4x4 Response are a voluntary group of owners of 4-wheel drive vehicles who offer our services to support the emergency services and voluntary organisations in times of extreme weather or when 4-wheel drive vehicles are needed. We have 70+ members across both counties driving a variety of makes, models and capabilities; each has its uses. We typically support the NHS and blue light services in severe weather, but also our local Lowland Search and Rescue teams throughout the year and many charity events. www.4x4response.net

The Land Rover G4 Challenge The Land Rover G4 Challenge was a global adventure competition, as the spiritual successor to the Camel Trophy it had off-road driving at its core, with additional disciplines of orienteering, climbing, kayaking and mountain biking to test competitor and equipment in gruelling conditions. As more and more of the vehicles used in the 2003 Land Rover G4 Challenges made their way into private hands, many owners started to correspond with each other via other 4x4 clubs, it quickly became apparent that this was an ideal opportunity to create a community to preserve these vehicles and to share information. Early in 2007, following articles that appeared in several Land Rover magazines, a small number of enthusiasts got together and started work on building the framework for an organisation. The G4OC was born and warmly welcomed by other groups. With 2013 being the tenth anniversary of the 2003 Challenge we will be celebrating at LRO Peterborough on the G4OC stand with specially commissioned G4 cakes as well as numerous vehicles for people to come and have a look around from the 2003 and 2006 challenges.

Help for Heroes 4x4 European Rally

LRCC – Land Rover Classic Campers

The award winning Help for Heroes 4x4 European Rally has raised over £625,000 for the charity since its launch in 2010. The 2014 event will commemorate the Centenary of the start of WW1 and the 70th Anniversary of D-Day. As a family friendly non-speed touring assembly, starting on 14th June, the rally follows the path and tells the story of the WWII Allied Invasion through Europe. Allied Forces landed in France on 6th June 1944, D-Day; that history will unfold as our journey progresses. The route also includes the ‘Western Front’ of WW1. Details at www.h4hrally.co.uk or email info@h4hrally.co.uk

LRCC was formed after a successful expedition to Morocco (and back!) by a small group of 40+ year old Land Rover Carawagons and a Dormobile, in 2011. The trip was featured in the October 2011 issue of LRO. We now have over 150 members and regularly attend shows/camps throughout the year, including winter camps! LRCC welcomes anyone with an interest in Classic Land Rovers which have been converted into self-contained Campers, either factory fitted (Carawagon, Dormobile) or aftermarket by a company or by the owner. Please come along to our ‘Moroccan Encampment’ to see our unique vehicles and have a chat. www.lrcc.org.uk

Liverpool Land Rover Owners Club

Red Rose Land Rover Club

Liverpool Land Rover Owners Club was formed in 1994 with a small number of LR enthusiasts and has now grown to a current membership of just less than one hundred. From early days when most members had Series or Defender vehicles we now have, Series, Defenders, Discoveries and Classic, P38 and L322 Range Rovers. Members with P38 and L322 vehicles are affectionately known as The Gucci Gang. Owner’s vehicles range from out and out off-roaders through to greenlaners and those that are day to day transport and give the owners the joy of owning and driving a Land Rover. As a club we get involved with a whole range of events so that all members and their families are catered for, however they enjoy using their Land Rovers. Over the last couple of years we have enjoyed off-road events like The Strata Florida, Bala and The Land Rover Experience all throughout North and South Wales. We of course attend all the LRO Events such as Harrogate, Billing and Peterborough also members attended The Eastnor Land Rover Show in 2012 which members enjoyed despite the inclement weather. Members have just returned from a successful trip to Portugal having enjoyed a sunny holiday and some spectacular off-roading. www.llroc.co.uk

Red Rose Land Rover Club Ltd was formed in 1982 by a group of Land Rover enthusiasts and has gone from strength to strength over the years with members of all ages – the youngest being just 11 months old and the oldest… well that would be telling! The club is based within the North West of England and is a member of the Association of Land Rover Clubs, which is a national organisation promoting all things about Land Rover. All our events run under the ALRC regulations. This year, as well as having a club stand there will be a ‘Challenge of Roses’ contest in the main arena, which will be carrying out ‘tasks’ involving Land Rovers, their gadgets and other bits and pieces! It is a mixture of brains, brawn and good humour to complete the tasks in teams which require three Land Rovers per team and six team members. Come and see us on the club stand and watch the fun in the main area – don’t forget to give the lads and lasses (maybe) a big cheer! Should you want to learn more about our club and/or the War of the Roses event, please visit our website www.redroselrc.co.uk – but beware, being bitten by the Land Rover bug, means you may not want a cure!

The club is owned managed and run by a dedicated band of off-road enthusiasts and anyone interested in off-roading or 4x4 vehicles is welcome to join. We organise all types of off-road and 4x4 days out cater for all levels of skill and experience. www.worcester4x4.org.uk

Northtyne 4x4 is an all makes 4x4 club based in the north east of England, the club has been running for about nine years and regularly attends shows. Northtyne 4x4 is a small club full of enthusiasts who share their time, knowledge and experience with other members giving the club a family feel. Find us on facebook.

We are a small club that meet regularly just to chat. We like to go offroading and are currently building a pair of v8 Range Rovers to off-road. We are mainly all young farmers or ex-young farmers with Land Rovers in common!

Just Defenders + Series

A group set up by friends fed up with normal clubs and politics, we are a bunch of Land Rover nuts (any 4x4 is welcome) that enjoy the social side of things, attending shows, camping trips, days out, greenlane days out all over the country and beyond. The club is set out to be family friendly, for those with a relaxed laid back attitude, who just want to mix and have fun with others. So far this year we had a weekend in Wales greenlaning, along with several local trips, attended shows, with more planned for this year. Membership is free – we have a website but most of the chat going on via our facebook page for day to day stuff. With the club having its first birthday at the Peterborough show, we already have over 100 members all over UK, and international.

We started off almost two years ago with the Facebook Group ‘Just Defenders + Series’, which has now got over 2100 members from all over the world, and the numbers increase daily. Members post pictures of their pride and joys and also post questions if they need any help. We once had a member that was in danger – his Defender was hanging over a very steep ravine. He posted his co-ordinates on our page and within two hours he had been rescued and was home, with extreme thanks to another one of our members (a happy ending)! We are a friendly bunch of Land Rover Defender and Series enthusiasts that like to talk about and tweek our Defenders and Series. We like to go greenlaning, all across the country, and to see the different modifications our members do to their trucks – believe me some are amazing.

Breckland Land Rover Club Breckland Land Rover Club (BLRC), was originally formed by a group of keen enthusiasts, it is now the largest Land Rover club in Norfolk made up of a major group of drivers, interested parties and even unwilling partners! Started in 1971, the club had access to Stanford battle area, a trials and safari site second to none right in the heart of Breckland: the name stuck although sadly we now have lost the use of the MOD site. The Club badge depicts ‘Old Shuck’ (from the Anglo-Saxon ‘Soucca’ – Omen of Doom), a large spectral hound which supposedly roams the marshes of Norfolk, and a windpump typical of the Broads area.

The Ex-Military Land Rover Association

North East Worcestershire Land Rover Owners

Green Lane Association (GLASS)

The Ex-Military Land Rover Association was set up with the following aims:

We are a group of like-minded friends who love to get their Land Rovers as muddy as possible! Being family friendly, we aim to meet at least once a month in a local pub for a chat about all things Land Rover and sometimes a carvery meal. The focus of our club has changed from greenlane days to touring in Europe, and taking advantage of the local off-road scene where ever we end up. This year a group of us went to mid Spain, where we went off into the mountains with Spanish4x4.com and a great time was had by all! Our members have a lot of experience in Land Rover ownership and modification/preparation, so help and advice is never far away… www.newlro.co.uk

GLASS is a subscription based National User Group for those who enjoy using the British network of ancient unsurfaced public roads and vehicular rights of way. We are a not for profit association dedicated to driving, protecting and researching our unique heritage of unsurfaced public highways whilst also funding legal action to maintain those rights and to ensure that Authorities abide by their statutory duties laid down in law. We promote legal and responsible driving as a way of enjoying the countryside and campaign against irresponsible use. Glass offers its members access to information and advice, a magazine and full access to our comprehensive on-line database of rights of way in Great Britain. We also have a network of local representatives who hold regular meetings and can offer local knowledge to our members. Please feel free to visit our stand and have a chat.

I Promote the operation, restoration and preservation of ex-Military Land Rovers, and the interest in them. I Support this aim by promoting events and shows, attending established vehicle shows, and by organising Association meetings for members to socialise and display their vehicles. I Provide members with information, advice and assistance concerning ex-Military Land Rovers. Encourage research and accumulation of documents, photographs and other relevant material by the Association. I Afford members such benefits and privileges as it may be possible. If you are visiting the show then the EMLRA hope you will visit their stand; they are more than happy to talk about military Land Rovers if you own one or not.

olybush products are recognised worldwide for excellence and quality with thousands of Land Rovers having benefited greatly from fitting Polybush kits. The ride is better, handling more precise and bush durability considerably extended. Polybush have sponsored the AFRT for many years and have always been impressed by their drive and commitment, to the extent that they would like to share their enthusiasm with Land Rover lovers during a live build in the Workshop Tent. Come along and see how it’s done, ask your questions and get the answers you’ve been looking for to help you improve your Land Rover.

The Armed Forces Rally Team (AFRT) was formed from the Army Rally Team whose origins go back to the early 1960s. The modern team was formed in 1996 as the LEXARMY Rally Team and in 2005 changed to its current title to reflect the tri-service nature of its Army, RAF and Royal Navy membership. The AFRT competes in a variety of selected National and International Rallies which are combined as the Armed Forces Rally Championship. These events are chosen to comprehensively test crew skills. The team is made up from serving members of the Armed Forces and MoD civil servants who are

selected into management positions and competitive seats each year entirely on merit and commitment to the team and the sport. The team is funded by Army Sport Board grants and formal sponsorship most of which is raised through Team Army. The team members make personal contributions and are expected to purchase items of personal protection equipment. The vehicles, owned by the MoD but on long term loan to the Millbrook Proving Ground Ltd for the AFRT’s exclusive use are civilian registered, taxed and insured by Millbrook on behalf of the AFRT. All fuel, tyres,

spares, repairs and routine maintenance are funded and managed by the AFRT, Millbrook Proving Ground Ltd and various industry sponsors. The team members at the show are under the direction of the Team’s Service Manager 2Lt Mark Roberts REME and the mission for them this weekend is to build a new Land Rover Defender XD (Wolf) which will be for the future joint competitive use of the AFRT and invited injured service personnel who wish to rally with the assistance of Mission Motorsport.
