Additive method I started with the idea of “light and shadow�. While process of additive method the thought of good and bad evolved and i created the scene of a cursed forest with witches in it and a flower between the forest. Here there is a shadow play showing the witches and the dark forest which is depicting the bad side. The only flower standing upright in the middle of forest is the good hope. So here it is the play of shadow which shows difference between good and bad.

Subtractive Method

From the idea of good and bad & light and shadow i made this model considering the lighted parts a “good” and the dark parts as bad. Further adding a story to the model, i thought the whole cube as “a human brain” and those spaces carved out as “the thoughts” going on in brain. Some thoughts get solution, some are left without thinking much, some get engaged to different thoughts from one thought. So this model shows how a human brain works.

Subtractive plus additive method
From the subtractive model i got my final concept that was “thoughts going on in human brain�. Here, the entrance from two sides are the main thoughts and the columns are the other thoughts that interrupt while pondering upon the main thoughts. These all thoughts create a confusing situation in brain which is the dark or the bad side of brain. The light falling from the holes above are the ray of hope showing the good side of the brain.

Day 1
Starting to work on land i realized it was difficult to dig and make sculpture on land because of the material. In my model i lifted one side of ground because in the clay model i had already realized the difficulty of light falling in from top. So i lifted the ground from one side so when sunlight falls on it, it has a right spot to land on.

After the base was ready, i started making the columns which acted as support for the model as well as are considered as thought in my concept. The proportion of clay and soil mattered as it could cause cracking.

Then comes the wire mesh which acts as a support to the models upper surface. Wire mesh was dumped into soil on one end and other side bricks were kept to make it stay in the same form.

After the digging and the main wire mesh was placed , then the small domes were made out of wire mesh and placed on the main frame. These small domes are going to act like brain in the model to give a hint of what the model is about.

Then comes the part where clay i to be added to the layer of the mesh. The holes are cut in the small wire mesh so that light can enter in it easily. If any cracks seen after drying then it had to be repaired next day.
